Unacceptably high rates of crashing on loading into a mission with RTX 4090

Issue Description:
Whenever I load into a mission completely - as in, I see the game screen and my character’s weapon - I have an absurdly high rate of crashing to desktop. I currently have 167 (!!!) crash logs in my folder and they are almost all the exact same scenario.

Crash Report (If Applicable):
Attached below.

Error Displayed (If Applicable):
None. There are no GPU errors, no memory errors, no network errors, and no listed application errors.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Queue for Quick Play or select a mission. Issue occurs on all difficulties, all modifiers, and all maps, as far as I can tell.
  2. Game will crash on leaving the load screen and entering the mission.

Mission Name (If Applicable):
Any.

Platform:
Steam

Player ID:

Approx. Time of Issue & Timezone:
N/A; happens any time of day or night.

Reproduction Rate:
Common. Roughly 35% of missions, and it will crash multiple times in the same way before I get into the mission in a stable state. Generally takes 3 crashes in a row before the game is playable again.

Upload Console Log:

  1. Press the Windows key + R
  2. Enter %appdata% within the search input and select ‘OK’
  3. Navigate to AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Darktide\console_logs
  4. Locate the console log that corresponds with the session in which the issue occurred, by looking at the timestamps in the log names
  5. Upload here. *Please note that, again, this is only the page limit of 5 of the crash logs. There are 167 crash logs in this folder right now. *

yeah i just upgraded from a 3080 to one that was relatively stable with the beta patch and now i’m back to crashing every game

Out of the logs provided it seems to be a mixed bag. You’ve ran into some code-related crashes that we’re already aware of and looking into. You’ve also encountered a GPU hang - which we’re also working on.

Apologies for the inconvenience whilst we iron these out.

i managed 2 missions in a row without crashing (going for 3 :open_mouth: ) by turning framerate in game to unlimited and using nvidia inspector (not the base control panel) to limit framerate. might be worth looking into. considering it was crashing every mission i look at this as a success so far lol

3 hours without crashing using the beta client. i daresay this might be part of it

Same issue here on a 4080. Joining a mission is literally 50% success rate. Doesn’t matter if it’s new, or in progress. Once i’m in, no issues at all. There’s nothing showing up in windows eventvwr regarding any hardware or system errors either. It has gotten to the point where i’m not even bothering with the game until it’s fixed as it ends up wasting so much time and frustrates me.

A couple of days old, but I upgraded to a 4090 from a 2080 Super 2 weeks ago. On the 2080 Super I had 0 crashes. 4090 was a crapshoot, just like you said, loads of crashes on mission startup or mourningstar. I dug into the logs and as Lev said, it always seemed to be different reasons. (Some that I can recall from the top of my head were “Access Violation” and “GPU Hang”)

I’ve tried pretty much all the suggested fixes such as lowering thread counts, beta build, reinstalling drivers, vc++, framerate capping etc etc. The only thing that worked for me was to disable Ray Tracing completely. Haven’t had a crash since. Have a try, could also be a clue to the devs.

Same problem here. I’m running a 2080 Ti, have been seeing this precise issue regardless of any patches. Ran a clean install of latest Nvidia drivers a week ago as well, didn’t make any difference. For every maybe 5 missions I successfully run I will crash in this manner 2-3 other times. The Rejoin feature that lets you get back into the match is useless because the loading times on startup are so absurd (even on an NVME SSD) that you’ll never make it back into the same game.
