I was one of the people who never cared for solo play, but after finally installing mods after nearly 3 years of owning Darktide, I have to say it has changed my entire experience. When playing with your own characters as bots, it really makes this experience so much more immersive. Especially when using the “Tertium 4 or 5” mod which can increase your squad cap to 5 (or 6 if you play as arbites with a dog).
In this picture, I am role playing Mortis Trials as Lord General Castor from DOW 2 with his complete retinue. If any of you have tried these mods, please post pics so we can get better ideas of how to freshen up the game and add more replayability.
And please @Fatshark add solo mode with our own bots soon! I would stick with the mods, but sadly there’s no progression rewards which is the only downside.
To be fair these bots are gods (well, until they get netted or any of the other things bots make no attempt to avoid) because those stats are multiplied by the difficulty along with what you bring from the tree and curios. Before they nerfed some ogg toughness nodes I was able to get my ogryn bot with 580 HP and 380 toughness, and the 2 extra wounds from being a bot and 1 from ogryn.
This is also why I don’t think it can come to this game. Not for the hilarious unkillable stats, but because there is no hosting. If a player left the round would their bots swap to another players’?
Yeah these bots are so much better than vanilla bots, especially since you can equip them with your weapons of choice (aside from plasma gun which is bugged.) We get into the craziest mobs, such as 2 plague ogryns, and several bulwarks, and we come out nearly unscathed. The biggest challenge is destroying the nurgle pustules while being targeted by 15 gunners. But other than that, these bots are my personal meat grinder lol
Well the bots would be part of a players “package” so i guess the default would be they disappear with the player, but i don’t see any obvious reason why they couldn’t be implemented to stay if that’s preferred.
My guess is it’s the mods are the reason they aren’t doing it themselves, it puts it on a lower priority than a core system people can’t mod around. Also, the solo mode itself seems pretty easy to implement but i think offline is a lot harder you need to go through their serves to get into a map and then back out through them though the map itself can be offline probably expect a bad reception as people ask “why does my solo game have to be online?”
Also if they implement it they have to support it, a mod can have jank and not work everywhere an actual feature is held to a higher standard and that could require a lot of time /effort which has to be balanced against the positives.
but this is just me guessing , they do not communicate well / at all
You could have it work so that if the first player leaves that their bots will simply remain in the game and future bots get replaced with another random player’s characters. So when they leave, the bot that replaces them is that of another player currently present. You could totally have this system work in multiplayer just fine, when you start a mission with 2-3 players the game could just randomly pick a character from those players to load in as a bot. It’d be cool.
If I’m not mistaken, isnt this how the VT2 multiplayer works? I remember playing with my own bots when I hosted a game with less than 4 players. But then I think the whole game got shut down if the host leaves…I forgot
Yea Vermintide 2 uses a peer-to-peer (P2P) connection that is hosted by one of the player’s PC, if that player leaves then the game ends.
Darktide instead uses dedicated servers which is hosted by an external server that all players connect to, Darktide missions don’t end no matter who leaves until there are no more players alive.
That’s my main complain and why I play less… other players.
Really… I know several here don’t understand, but I really take no pleasure at running after a rusher… again today. Seen a game where we were wiped because someone wanted to rush…
Give me a solo game… you promised it. Amd allow me to play with my own char and my cosmetics.
playing with these modded bots is amazing, they always stay within coherency, and when you give them the right equipment they can res you within 1-2 seconds of going down. This needs to be officially implemented!!
There’s tons of potential money in it, and it would actually cost them less than someone who would play on their own machine but settles for playing with others on a server.
