Tox flamer fire goes around corners

Issue Type (Required):

Enemy Mechanics

Issue Description (Required):

This has been in the game since launch and I’m pretty tired of it. Not only does it make finding cover around corners/pillars worthless, but it breaks the game immersion. This particular “physics” is just different from everything else. It doesn’t fit. If you want them to be strong, buff the fire instead of having it do impossible things. There’s enough of that in the game already (like trapper nets going through boxes, gunner bullets going through stairs, etc.). Let’s start removing some of this stuff to make the game feel better.

Steps to Reproduce (Required):

  1. Find tox flamer.
  2. Bait it.
  3. Hide behind pillar or corner.
  4. Watch fire snake its way to you like it’s a living entity of capable of moving and changing direction.

Reproduction Rate (Required):

Constant (100%)

Platform (Required):

PC - Steam

Ironically this happens to be more realistic as flamethrowers are meant to be used to flush enemies out of cover (and can be bounced off of walls) rather than be directly deadly, but I agree that this needs to be fixed. I’ve seen it happen many times.

I’d be fine with bouncing off or following walls: that feels realistic and unsurprising. It’s when the fire makes a turn mid-path where I get salty.

As I understand it, this is not a bug, and is technically not even true. Flamer fire is not a projectile, it spawns the puddles directly under you. It doesn’t matter if it goes around corners, just don’t stop moving and it will barely hit you.

This game can be harsh sometimes, but generally the best way to deal with a flamer is to charge them. They stop flaming when you get close, and take increased damage from melee. They usually show up just a few feet from you anyways, so unless they’re blocked by a horde or a bulwark, you’re generally just a dodge or slide away from them anyways.
