Yes I know how DR calculation works I just don’t agree you need that much DR on top of the solid toughness regen options you already have, as well as the ability to triple stack coherency regen perks.
Hard to tell in game though till exhilarating is fixed. Right now running that means you’re often taking 30% more toughness damage, meaning precision builds are currently running without a toughness restore/DR option entirely. Let’s see how it feels once that’s fixed.
It’s awful I hate it
Oh the end of the tree should be shorter
Her have keystones and the awful arbitrary stat nodes still there
Also have a massive nerf.
Fatshark moment balancing, completely missing what the community wanted and what the game needed and doing something insane instead.
Coming back to say good good the vet feels so bad to play now.
So did 2 builds so far being a plasma focused VOC build which was meh. Not great, not awful, just meh. It’s probably the closest to my old builds that i like in that i actually gives a noticeable benefit and pairs well with almost any weapon. Even then i feel the cost of entry is steep and that extra node right before the keystone is a slap in the face and could be moved up to where 5% hp or 25% suppression dealt is and just let rending strikes go straight into the keystone.
I have no idea what they were playing where they looked at Marksman’s focus and went “alright, sounds great” because there is no situation where standing still for long enough to get up to max stacks is a good idea. Even then landing consistent weak spot kills on their own is challenge enough for, what is in my opinion, is either completely overkill or doesn’t do much depending on the enemy. Unless you have people CONSTANTLY and i mean CONSTANTLY covering you i have no idea how you are supposed to keep any significant uptime.
Still need to try the melee build but i just gotta ask, do we really need so many plus 5% to stam, hp, or toughness in this tree? I wouldn’t even care as much about the tax nodes so much if all the tax nodes weren’t just outright bad.
Even if there are usable builds the key point is that it just feels bad to use. Going to dive in on a melee focused build and hope.
After doing the melee build it felt good but i have the issue that it mostly just felt like Zealot Light, i don’t feel like i really did anything that i couldn’t do with zealot besides use the power sword.
Part of me also had to question if the clutch protentional was really unique to the skill setup i had or if it was more just having a stealth ability and having a revolver.
Smoke grenades still have similar problems i had with them previously IE not being proper los blockers. They did save the day once or twice but it was still uber limited.
Its not just you. Clearly the twits running this game have a serious case of “the chef is always right and if you criticize me I will scream and yell and throw you out”. Not that I’m surprised at this point since it seems that being a borderline narcissist or egomaniac is an unwritten requirement for working in most studios.
Ironic because the abilities aren’t that bad. If you are looking at them in isolation from the messy world of “actual gameplay” and ignore the rest of the tree entirely.
Marksman’s Focus might actually be okay. IF it wasn’t stuffed into a tree that gives you a maximum of +15 toughness in a game where standing still causes the AI to literally start spawning various specialists and elites aimed right at you.
The only way I could see this working at all would be if you paired it with Infiltrate and Low Profile or, and this is ironic, one of the nodes actually gave you the old camouflage back. Ironic because in one thread I created an ability (in 15 minutes total) that is basically this keystone but put the camo effect in specifically because it was the only way to reliably make it work.
Focus’s Target could be okay. If this was an MMORPG with 25+ people raiding where 4% extra damage on a boss actually matters and the trash is just there to slow you down. As it stands now you basically get one decent boost at the start then something that isn’t even noticeable as you’re either already at or over the break point or shy anyway.
As it stands now it needs a hell of a lot more than just 1 stack every 2 seconds. Say every marked kill resetting the stacks to maximum and a node that allows stacks to “jump” between a dead target and one already marked for starters.
Weapons Specialist is just… odd. As if it was written for the E-sport twitchy gamers who get off on breaking keyboards by seeing who can get the most actions per second. Which given how slow some weapons are to change (looking at you Bolter/ Plasma/ Lucius…) means you really can only use it one way.
Which frankly scares the crap out of me as it would not be the first time I’ve seen a game chase the E-sport market and in doing so utterly destroy the game for regular players.
At this point I think we can safely say that this whole thing is a bleeding mess that came about from multiple idiots being told to “fix the veteran tree”, each one given a specific capstone or area, then the whole thing was mashed together before being pushed out. Its just… bad. Confused. Not to mention half-arsed in places.
Yeah. The OG pre overhaul sharpshooter had the ability to not move in a game that forces you to move at all times. It doesn’t make much sense to me that they made focus a non movement dependent mechanic.
You literally cannot stand still in darktide especially in damnation.
3 pinning enemy types that you have to dodge
People with guns that will instantly drop you if stand still especially now with sharpshooter branch having awful toughness and toughness regen getting obliterated
Your team is never going to be able to keep horde off you entirely
Basically they added a mechanic all about not moving in a game all about moving constantly. And the benefit for literally making yourself an instant down risk is absolutely pitiful.
I can’t fathom how detached fatshark are from understanding the basic fundamentals of their own game. It’s like who ever’s responsible for vet is designing the class for an entirely different game at this point.
Fatshark has never understood their own games, and balances purely through gut reactions and feelings. They always find their way through eventually, though.
Veteran needs approximately 10 to 15 nodes removed to be in line with the other classes according to this thread: Veteran tree has too many nodes
In my opinion, ideally you want to combine some of the nodes and return the toughness and HP back to the vet innately. I can’t remember whether it was patch 13 or 14 that ripped out so much of the Vet’s innate toughness and HP and turned them into nodes. That would cut down on a lot of the filler.
Unlucky 13 is where they got ripped out. And only a bit put back since if you managed to take every toughness node you would still fall well short of the original 200 base we used to have.
Patch 13 did have another 100 toughness in the tree, but spread over 7 nodes all over the place in the tree, meaning getting them all wasn’t practical. Patch 15 did away with most of those nodes, but didn’t actually increase the remaining toughness nodes meaning it’s now impossible to get back all the toughness that was chopped out (+65 over 3 nodes, one at the top, one before Focus Fire and the last stat node in the left branch).
At least you can do this with Markman’s Focus I guess.
I find it easier to gain stack with revolver since it’s really easy to gain headshot kill with it(one tap, bigger headshot hitbox/better hit register, teammate can’t cockblock you), when a lot of elites are pouring in it can ramp up your damage of subsequent shot by a lot.
but normally revolver can hit most breakpoint easily anyway so it might be a bit pointless. This also require you to drop super precious demolition stockpile(or not if you go VoC route, still might have to drop some other useful passive tho).
