Hello, I wish to explain a serious issue with the “pro-trader” penance that was recently added with the expedition update.
I think it needs to be said that the penance simply requires a ridiculous amount of salvage to complete, 100 000 to be exact, and does not scale with any of the other challenges on the expedition mode. This penance has multiple issues and one of the main problems is that it incentivizes toxic gameplay habits.
Currently, I have managed to acquire the last “Tech-Hunter” penance, which requires you to extract with a total of 250 000 tech-remnants. This by itself is not impossible since collecting tech-remnants is supposed to be the main drive in this new game mode. However, now is when the cracks start to show.
After acquiring “Tech-Hunter (5)”, tech-remnants become completely useless and the hunt for salvage begins. Because the penance amount is not scaled, you now often find players who simply ignore all tech-remnants on the map and who refuse to enter the gates upon closing time since the only thing lost on death is tech-remnants. Because the spending amount of salvage is so insane, players often spam grenades and ammo to buy new stock in the sanctuaries, and upon reaching the last scavenge zone, players simply leave the game because there is no point in helping others extract.
The main reason why this occurs is because the penances are not scaled. By the time you reach the end of “Tech-Hunter (5)”, you have barely completed a third of the amount needed in “Pro-Trader (5)”. By cutting the requirement of salvage in half, and by allowing you to find salvage inside points of interest, it would help slightly to deal with this issue.
Please take a look at this, it needs to be addressed.
There’s 11 more grid points to unlock, and the remants assignment is max 3 instead of 5 like the others…I know we need to max all the current bars, but some assignments are made to be grindy. But this has nothing on quartermaster’s favorite (5 months). It just feels bad for bunga chievo brain who doesn’t enjoy games but rather does digital chores. If this is you, just cheat with the radar mode on zeta. You can get 1600 salvage per round assuming none of them spawn under terrains (so probably 1550 lets be real). It takes like 7 minutes with optimized radar gooning to grab it all and get in the gate. Either way that’s around 65 half hour games if you HAVE to do this now. Hardly the end of the world…not like having to play havoc for 5 months. If you leave salvage to collect while grinding the other assignments later when the rest of the grid is gradually unlocked, you’ll be a lot less sick of this mode trust me.
its a kind of stupid penance to be fair salvage hunter implies you hunt for salvage to spend, but in reality if you do that you will find yourself with less salvage than rest of the squad that plays the objectives reason for this being there are a mass of bugs around salvage and if you dont know how them bugs work then you will struggle alot. there are some that have completed the penance already but only by taking advantage of the bugs and skiping the extract run where you cant spend salvage anyway as well. i also think fatshark have been trying to address these bugs.
I’ve been grinding this with people that farm the salvage. Currently on 99k. I can confirm it’s getting griefy. It requires some coordination to get all 400 salvage (if non are bugged in a wall) per zone (easily doable as a duo in private matches) but in public you leave the people that just want to play normal in the dust. I already think that the way I played caused a few people to have a bad time even though I actively revive them if downed or dead. But I’ve seen player go full speed and close the doors on other players so that they can do it faster and then quit on the last zone. And to be honest I find that distasteful.. Maybe at some point players will not do these things anymore because they have the penance and don’t care
I do agree that the penance might need a slight change or something needs to be done to make it more palatable. Maybe somehow make tech remnants worth collecting regardless even if you are done with that penance. I have already collected 346k tech remnants and that number means nothing.. Maybe remove the Plasteel and Diamantine from the map and make a reward tier based on the amount of tech remnants you extracted. Show it with some cool bar thing that counting the tech rem similar to how the Chaos waste point add up in the end to get a chest. Also changing that if you extract with the salvage it counts for the penance too. Or maybe make blue 10 and red 25 and put the vast majority of them on the mandatory sites. I don’t know.. It’s a hard one.
100k is really too much. I’ve already completed all the expedition-related penances. But this penance is proving too long and tedious; I barely managed to reach 33k salvages
