The cosmetics moneymaking philosophy is so confused. What are you doing FS?

Many of fatshark’s game mechanics were deemed ineffective a decade ago. Exclusive vendors for paid content are a great example because once a player realizes what the vendor is for, they simply ignore them. I remember this first appearing over a decade ago in dragon age.

It’s off-putting, but if they were really predatory they could simply add a plasteel doubler that is active for 24 hours from the time of purchase for 3 dollars or something like that. This is a 15 year old technique.

They could also simply force you to go through the paid cosmetics when changing your current cosmetics or buying them through the commissary. Many of these companies make actual slot machines. Some of them even quit making games in favor of slot machines.

Well, someone in Fatshark was tinkering with a system that could be that, so they thought about it: Boons. All the frustration but no way to bypass it. It’s like they got cold feet going for additional monetisation and either decided against removing the frustration or forgot or ran out of time for the replacement.

I agree with your premise about Fatshark’s model but there is evidence that also points to the contrary direction being just as effective. For instance, Warframe has a full catalog of paid cosmetics available at all times. Whilst the game is winding down at this point, they were doing swell for years, selling tons of cosmetics. I don’t think this practice is quite as apt as it seems at face value. Not saying you’re wrong at all as I think this is more a grey area than black/white discussion.
