You give yourself and “the community” way more importance on these matters than is realistic.
From the getgo the level design of the Mourning Star had several unused points of interest that were clearly meant for more later down the road. Even now there is several potential points of interests where there’s room for additional shopkeepers / NPCs.
Furthermore the same happened in the past. VT2 also had cosmetics for ingame rewards as well as paid. So it stands to reason it was always part of the plan to have some cosmetics as unlockables and earnable through Ordo Dockets.
The other unreleased cosmetics and the way the free cosmetics are similiar in design to the penance cosmetics speaks volumes about this.
So no, “free cosmetics” weren’t a community achievement. That was very clearly always in their roadmap, albeit unfinished like much of the rest when the game launched (way too early).
And free content has been added to their past projects, too. VT2’s arguably best game mode, Chaos Wastes, came entirely free with earnable cosmetics and everything that’d make a full DLC pack of content worth.
I have no idea what inspires these hot takes of yours, but I’ll gladly eat them up. I always eat my burgers with jalapenos.
Yeah you profile pic goes hard
As said darktide could have awesome customisation but fatshark gimp themselves and the players with the lazy generic microtransation option of restrict customisation opinion and then charge for things that could have just been made with it.
Hopefully the store and customisation like the rest of the game is just an unfinished version that will eventually be finished much like the recent progression system.
Going by how they’ve been operating the cash shop I really doubt we’ll be seeing anything else added into the commissary at least for a long, long, time. At best we can probably expect a timed event every once in a blue moon, so that the cash shop remains the only source variety.
They really should just add one weekly or monthly challenge that awards a small amount of premium currency, or rotate out cosmetics that have been in the cash shop for over 3 years into the commissary. That way there will at least be some variety in there eventually. I doubt any of that would ever happen, but maybe.
You mean the dlc that was released after an expansion rated so badly that they posted a giant wall of text explaining themselves?
You’re naive if you think chaos wastes would have been free if people didn’t abandon the game in droves because of the trash fire that was winds of magic.
The only thing that prompts FS to do actual work is punishment in form of bad ratings, bad PR and lack of money. None of the good will you attribute to them has ever been present.
My “hot takes” as you call them are mostly common sense and the only you thing you eat up is mostly empty platitudes from FS you consider high gospel and carry out into the world doing their damage control for free like the battered wife you are my guy.
Winds of Magic released 13th of August 2019.
Chaos Wastes released 20th of April 2021.
That’s 20 months apart, almost two full years. The correlation you are trying to draw here does not check out.
The data doesn’t support this claim, either. Not fully at least.
There was a peak to 14k concurrent players around the Winds of Magic release, followed by, yes, a sharp drop down to 4k.
However, after that the numbers stabilized around a steady 6-7k. Sometimes going a bit higher and sometimes lower, classic fluctuation based on time of the year.
The great abandoning by players you mention cannot be found in this data beyond the initial drop in October 2019. The people disappointed by Winds of Magic had made their mark immediately post-release of that DLC when the numbers dropped from a 14k peak and a previous average of ~5,5k down to almost 4k.
Your posts read somewhat grumpy or at least overly skeptic to me.
Maybe that’s just your personality or how you go about things. I don’t know you and it’s not my position to judge it.
I’m not generally against skepticism. Sometimes it appears you are going out for your way to see the negative in things, though.
Whoa, that mod sounds sick! I tried looking it up but could only find weapon customization. Any chance you could tell me where I can find or either here or through PMs?
Funny thing about this totally wrong and silly perception: the oysters haven’t stopped clutching their pearls for over FIVE YEARS over every single thing they consider to be an unforgivable issue (from a CM saying something sassy to a bug not being fixed fast enough). And when there isn’t something to complain about, they’ll just make it up, like nemy saying the ordo cosmetics were a reaction to the cash shop.
So yea, when you make believe that FS is evil and doesn’t care and never listens for years, there’s no other way to see anything positive they do but in a negative light. But the negativity is coming from inside the house!
But Chaos Wastes remains the best free expansion to any game I’ve ever played, and I guess I don’t care if it was two years in the making just because WoM sucked (swing and a miss!) and few liked it.
I did see better before, but it’s definitely quite high up there. And on the rest of your statement you’re right. For some people it’s clearly personal. Fatshark has amassed an actual base of detractors.
I think it has something to do with the tide series being games with great unique gameplay but fatshark continuing to make the same mistakes over and over and over and over and over. So people have developed a love hate relationship with them.
Let’s go over fatshark’s failings
V2 launching in a awful state and not being made into a reasonable state until the Xbox release
doing the exact same thing with darktide
lying about darktide’s solo mode
darktide missing many basic qol features v2 had
darktide’s awful store compared to vermintide 2’s
winds of magic
darktide’s weapon modifications absent despite being advertised and the only word we got on it not coming was a cm being snarky (the system is pretty much fully complete in the games code see weapon modifications mod)
tho just promotional bs the Xbox Aquilas situation darktide’s first year on pc was a mess and then giving them 14000 Aquilas and us some existing assets and retexures isn’t a great look.
stupid limited customisation in darktide that’s arbitrary limited with colouring items so they can sell us full price recolours on the store (look at for the drip mod and what is not provided for the place of lazy monetization)
the funny bucks bundle to directly buy cosmetics at launch in darktide mysteriously missing
consistent server issues
crating coming soon
(Fatshark veterans could list many more than I could think of)
Fatshark have had many moments where they could have pretty simple wins and they just consistently mess it up time and time again. As said darktide is good but it could have been much better if fatshark has the ability to learn from previous mistakes and not go backwards repeatedly. So many of us are jaded with this bs tied to their unique franchise they have carved out with the same issues that plague the games over and over.
