For those chaxe-chads out there wondering how my buffs would feel and hoping for solace until such time as the chain axe might ever be buffed i bring limited salvation:
Zealot Martyrdom actually nets breakpoints on low HP very similar to what i have proposed. I had largely overlooked martyrdom for chain axe as it seemed to me to be not especially better than Inexorable Judgement for a fair bit worse risk conditions. So i relegated it to my hammer builds. However a friend of mine strongly recommended i try it. They were right: the light attacks gain enough baseline damage before buff stacks on like 4-5 stacks of martyrdom to actually feel good from a cold start. This reinforces my proposal in the opening of this post. Meaningful light attack elite and bruiser breakpoints WILL save this weapon. Especially on Vet.
Good evening. I have reinforcing data for my proposition that lights are the core problem with Chaxe. As an avid user I don’t really (personally) see anything else that needs fixing except light attacks. Here is my evidence:
For the sake of raw TTK comparisons I ran two tests in the usual manner but I left invisibility on so I could do them cleanly without rushing. 6+6 dreg and scab shotgunners. 8 dreg shooters. These are human scale elites, the kind of thing latching lights should be good against.
They’re trash.
literally they need (at minimum) their TTK halved. Since they only hit one target they will always be inferior to cleaving blow weapons (like the combat axe) until such time they are able to outpreform them at single target. Thus the breakpoints on single target shred attacks MUST be AGGRESSIVELY enhanced. 1 and 2 shot BPs need to be the norm for lights.
Yeah both are indeed fun to use currently… There was a time where both (1h more) feel more like a head smashing paddle than a slicing tool of destruction (if I’m not totally wrong I think u started a thread about this chainsword feeling thematic)… But currently they are fun to use… And for the ultimate WH Feeling I’m using the “Blood for the Blood God” Mod… With this mod the chainswords (especially 1h) handed are even more fun to use, its glorious when you slicing through a horde limb by limb where body parts flying everywhere or when the heretics get cut horizontally in half most if the time… Just glorious
I really tried to use the chainaxe, Reg. I really did. It ended up just being too awkward for me to handle, plus the limited range hurts, despite having the nice followups after pushing.
Maybe after another 200 hours I’ll be able to manage it.
That was me! I think its at 500 posts now? I also made like…a 40 minute video on just the sound effects. They’re still a bit paddly to my tastes honestly. But at least they do damage now. Until rampage gets nerfed ;__;
Yeah, its definitely a weapon with real challenge behind learning it. That’s why I like it so much. There’s a pride to learning to handle the weapon and make it work in any situation. Darktide can be a challenging game, but to learn to use the Chaxe is its own difficulty modifier. Hopefully Fatshark recognizes that the risk/reward profile of the weapon is its appeal and doesn’t turn the weapon into some bland super easy weapon like everything else has been going to. Drawbacks you have to work around are what make weapon design interesting.
In the end, if I panic and start swinging the wide light attack grabs too far off screen for me to deal with because I’m having a hard enough time mainlining the vet in damnation as it is.
There are a lot of weapons like this. I’ve been fiddling with the catachan and the thing that really makes it good is the unique parry.
I regard chaxe as especially bad on vet right now. Specifically because he lacks good toughness sustain and hordes are thick and dense and full of high hitmass elites. slow diagonal attacks with mediocre cleave and low damage are not what vet needs to survive.
