From most of what i’ve seen, bots are supposed to equal the skill level of a “legend” player. Except they don’t. I’ve already tested a full run of bots on legend and they RARELY complete the mission. In fact, the only time they regularly complete the mission is when i set it to recruit (which is honestly just a tutorial). Why must the player suffer then, with AI bots that can’t keep up with them yet we’re still spawning as many enemies as 4 “legend” or “cata” players could handle? I really think Fatshark needs to look at how the AI spawns reflect how many actual players are in the game. Looking at how the bots perform (this was done on the modded realm but the combat was completely vanilla, the only thing i did was allow 4 bots to play and i just spectated). Out of 80 runs, the bots failed 67 of them on legend.
Now on legend a person can solo it no prob provided they have the skill. Where this becomes an issue is in CATA. Where the player has to essentially babysit the bots all the way through the run. Seriously i’d rather bring someone completely new to the game than the bots, i think you should give me the option to run it TRULEY ALONE or allow me to respawn as one of the bots.
I’d like to also make special note, that the bots favor other bots over the player. during multiple tests of me being downed next to a bot, other bots would favor reviving the bot over me (and in 8 of the trial runs the bots just let me die outright even though one was completely free to revive me). It seems even though 2 bots are alive, they’re like a “hive mind” and can only revive 1 character at a time, the first character being the non-player character (which also boggles my mind, there’s no game without the PC so why favor the AI over the PC? can a dev explain this to me? I’ve seen the interaction CLEARLY, what in the script is causing this to happen? Why does the AI seem to want to keep the bots alive but not the player?
Again this isn’t just me testing this in one game and calling it quits, i’ve done like 200 instances and trials testing these interactions and these are the ones that stick out to me REGULARLY. Like you can almost assure yourself that if you and a bot are downed next to each other, the AI will help the bot first.
No, bots are not and not even should be as good as players. They run to rattlings and warpfires like flies to a bulb - that should be fixed. Sometimes they just stand by a downed player and let him die - that should be fixed too. But I still play with them rather than the players because they understand that the team should stick together. Also when you play with bots you are in a control of the whole team and you can create great synergies this way - this is a big advantage.
I play with bots almost every day the full book legend runs for dailies and weeklies and my success rate is about 95%. If you have a problem with them, read some guide on how to play with them and how to set them up.
He’s talking about Cata too, which I totally agree with him on. It’s way worse than Legend.
I don’t think anyone could defend how the all 3 bots will hide behind the player with ranged weapons out just because one Special is up. Sometimes I can’t even tell if they’re bugged out, because they spend half of the match doing it, instead of fighting.
Should add that they stand with their ranged weapons out for the Special, but when it comes, they don’t shoot it. So they’re just standing there with their ranged weapons out for prolonged periods for no reason, doing 0 damage.
Also, because they’re trying to hide behind the player, they end up baiting Elite attacks into the player.
I don’t think bots need to be as “good” as players, I just hope that bot related bugs can be fixed so that they can behave normally and not be a burden to the team.
For example, running to rattlings and warpfires and then dying, abandoning the player to chase special, holding a ranged weapon but not shooting, etc. There are too many bugs related to bots, why doesnt fatshark fix them?
It was much worse years ago. They fixed a lot of things. But still lot remains…
For example bots used to jump off the cliffs whenever they saw a warpfire so you can imagine that some parts of maps were really dangerous with them. Bots now are ok in most situations if you use the combat mod for them. But it could be better, yeah.
Lemme tell you about bots. Yes, they’ll never measure up to Choco or JTC. Yes they have TONS of stupid moments. Yes they HAVE gotten worse in the past two years and it pisses me off that FS isn’t fixing them l.
But OTOH…
-they’ll never kill you with a back of the head peacemaker, javelin, torpedo, or bomb
-they’ll more often have your back than your average quickmatch player as they’re programmed to stay near you
-they’ll never waste your potions and bombs
-they’re a crack shot with snipers…if only they targeted ungor archers
-they WILL use the build you want them to use unlike your unreliable quickmatch randos
-they won’t teabag one another before reviving
-they won’t leave at random
-they won’t f you over by randomly joining a game and rendering one of your bot teammate missing for a minute or longer in the middle of a fight
And despite their many bugs and quirks…they’re atleast consistently quirky and you are able to play around that. Nothing will prepare you for a bad player, and those players will appear in any difficulty
Of course they are not supposed to be as good as a player, this isn’t an auto battler. If the devs wanted to replicate human players they would pay the guy who made replicant bots, implement some accuracy checks and call it a day.
Also, you should probably post your bot setup if you are going to rant about them. A lot of the info you have given is entirely dependent on your bot setup.
Unfortunately true which is why I just setup the bots as a bunch of enhancers that can directly power me up with their team passives. Otherwise teammates always fill in in the first few minutes of a stage.
I don’t know where you got this idea. Bots are intentionally worse than a real player (well… A real player with at least a basic understanding of the game) and how good they perform is entirely dependent on the kit you give them.
I exclusively play solo w/ bots on Legend (dabble in Cata) and I see a win rate of ~80% depending on the map and who I’m playing. I play 2 careers per character and use a randomizer spreadsheet that I made to decide which career and map I’m going to play, so sometimes I get something, like Skittergate, that the bots just suck at and a career that can’t carry them through the boss.
Cata I see a win-rate like yours, I might win 1 in 15/20 matches.
Biggest issue is how they treat specials: they simply won’t priorise them ever unless the special has already attacked the team. They see a hooker approaching, yet they won’t target it over the trash mobs until it catches someone, same with assassins. They have a perfectly viable line of sight to a blightstormer and no enemies to distract them, but if the blightstormer is farther than about 30 meters, they won’t shoot it until it casts. They see a flamethrower beelining towards the team, again, they won’t shoot it until it gets close, even though they could. Even if the player tags them. When they do engage, they are very accurate, but their idiocy still requires constant babysitting and leads to lots of unnecessary damage taken.
Where do you get that impression?
I’ve only seen it as hyperbolic claims by people whining that other players don’t do exactly what they expect them to do.
I’ve managed to do a few runs on Legend with bots but you have to babysit them as they are basically “good at keeping themselves alive… until they’re not and just get overwhelmed”.
They do however reliably follow you. Which other players of course don’t.
And so going from playing lots with bots where you get used to them follow your lead vs people who don’t can lead to said attitude.
