The area secondary objective Melks challenges are not viable

This week I ended up with needing to complete 6 Secondary Objectives on Hab Dreyko. I am out of rerolls. This means getting 3/3 or 2/2 scripts or grimoires. I have done 30 matches so far this week, with 10 of them on Hab Dreyko, and gotten ZERO secondary objective completes so far.

Hab Dreyko missions are not always available. When they are, they are not always a viable level. Level 1’s cannot have secondary objectives. I’m not ready for level 4’s or 5’s yet. Level 3’s are not even reliable when playing with randoms, and my friends are not always available. That leaves mostly level 2’s. So the odds of there even being a viable mission at any given time are low.

And even when you get such a mission, most groups don’t care about actually completing the secondary objective. You need all of the scripts/grims to get credit. Most of the time you don’t get them all. People charge through and don’t search. If you do, they ditch you and you die.

Even when we DO find everything, I’ve had multiple times now where the grim carrier YOLOs in and dies with it. Or when a script carrier falls off an edge and its left floating in mid air and cannot be retrieved.

Completing these challenges is just far too reliant on RNG to get the right mission, and then on your team to actually do the secondary objective.

Please consider disabling this Melks challenge until there are more secondary objectives, or other changes to make this more viable. Like if I could create my own private game on the needed level. Or if you got credit if any scripts/grims are retrieved. Or if collecting scripts/grims had a much higher incentive so people would actually do it.

I have been trying since sunday to get these and I’m at 0/6, and that’s playing ~4h per day each day so far! I doubt I’ll make it at this rate as I cannot play much the next few days. So I lose out on 1000 Melkbucks even though I completed everything else easily enough and put in lots of time.

I agree, and always pay the gold to re-roll these (and scripture, and grims) objectives. They’re just far more trouble than they’re worth given the difficulty of getting an appropriate mission and then getting people to complete it.

As you say, it’s difficult to even get the appropriate mission with a secondary objective at a level you can complete. Even if you finish that task, though:

  • Some scriptures seem to be hidden in unobtainable places
  • The search for scriptures, because they have no static spawn locations, massively increases the amount of time necessary to complete a mission and the potential of failure due to group separation
  • The debuff from grimoires is strong enough that it makes a mission equivalent to +1 difficulty, depending on group composition, which is on its own enough to cause frequent unexpected failures (because people queuing for the mission aren’t always prepared for that jump in difficulty)
  • If someone dies with a grimoire (or, on one memorable occasion, just detonates it to see what it would do), the objective is failed.

I have managed to complete a few secondary objectives, but every time was either:

  • On the second difficulty with a group that could easily have taken the third difficulty
  • On the third difficulty with an extremely capable and well-organized group, akin to a premade
  • By the absolute skin of our teeth

While these experiences were tense and enjoyable in retrospect, they are eclipsed by the number of experiences that were simply tedious or disheartening; players rage-quitting after a grim was lost or someone got separated and died with a scripture somewhere we couldn’t retrieve it, games where we simply couldn’t find a scripture even after half an hour of searching, or games where we lost at the last moment with two grims (and undeniably because of those grims) after an otherwise tense and enjoyable run.

I like your suggestions, although I would also add that if grims / scriptures are intended to be this difficult to complete, rewards for them should be commensurate to that difficulty - at least granting the reward equivalent of a +1 mission. At the moment, they are little more than something to be avoided except in an organized group that’s actively looking to challenge itself.

These are honestly just not possible. With THREE layers of RNG (the mission showing up at all, the mission having the secondary objectives in the first place, and the placement of the books themselves within the level) it’s BY FAR the most difficult and impossible weekly you can ever get. Rerolling them is practically MANDATORY.

I posted this bug about not getting partial progress…

I second the OP.

Usually I am not that greedy, but there are nice, lovely things you need to afford with those “Melkbucks”. So, every missing 1000 Bonus thingies hurt … and slowly but surely get me to ignoring Melk in a whole, because those Secondary Objectives are such a pain in the butt.

((I really would invest more coins to pay those off and exchange them for other objectives; but at one point we are stuck with them))

And we would, if we could. Reroll them, I mean … but Sire Melk keeps mocking me by replacing one Secondary Objectives task with another; and we have only so many replacement options …
