Last I checked Vermintide 2 had complete features on release: Sub-classes, Crafting, No MTX, Ability to Practice on Maps, Private Lobbies, and Lots of Maps to play. Vermintide 2 was also way more fun to play than Darktide. Vermintide also didn’t have annoying mechanics like Coherency or dumb ranged enemies that can stagger you with bullet, or RNG shop where you have to wait an hour to get loot, let’s also not forget that there’s no lame random map crap either.
The one thing that sucks though is that we never got dedicated servers. I have a friend who lives in Germany and playing with him on Cata is awful.
Vermintide 2 had even more obscure item description, lack of balance, enemy stacking issues, special spawning issues(ever seen 4 gutterrunners popping in instantly after Into The Nest tram ride?)…etc.
It was a lot more janky than darktide, besides performance(iirc it wasn’t that good either).
Yeah but I remember Vermintide more fondly than I do Darktide. Once I uninstalled Darktide. I refunded it and only had bad memories of it cause of how poor my experience with it was.
Yeah, because they skipped it (somehow).
It technically is, because it is also a deceiving design pattern but some lobby-people worded it right and so we have “Premium Currency”.
But yeah, as far as I get it, not yet. Still I am waiting on answers coming in on the matter, but so long as FS tries to alleviate the issue, I will not hold this against them.
Better to right one wrong as to wrong one who strives to be better.
Sorry to burst your bubble here but i do happen to play warframe. And they have a lot of premium currency exclusive cosmetics and…a lot of things. Playing the game with currency in hand vs not doing it is massively different post the earliest levels of the game.
The reason it retains popularity? The fact that they frequently have sales of said currency and a highly developed player-to-player trading platform where various gear related things are traded. So people who grind can actually make it fairly well, but still, the worst of of the stuff is sold for around or just below 2000 plat (90 EUR)
90 euro for a gear thing that is crucial to be able to actually unlock the best build freedom when it comes to using abilities. Or optionally your can run a mission where 3 big bosses spawn in a row and the 3rd has 5% drop chance for a piece of that gear. Takes about 15-20 minutes per run unless your gear is maxed to infinity.
You need 21 of those pieces to fully make it, though you can partially build that to lesser effect…so between this and other things i cant say they are without predatory practices.
It’s not common to sell a profitable subsidiary. They ran the numbers before they bought and likely have good faith in FS. They have as much interest as all of us do that Darktide is an enjoyable and engaging game that retains players… expect plenty more devs to be invested in by them. Facebook buys companies… microsoft buys companies… pretty normal thing.
Mm, I thought so. It’s nothing against Tencent in particular I just hate soulless mega conglomerates, especially when it comes to anything artistic. Embracer Group is another one that I hate and has quite a few IPs I wish they didn’t have.
It seems like the gaming industry is headed toward this place where its just a few mega corps and no one else. Eurgh.
Not explicitly stating that Fatshark has to do anything? 100% believe it.
Unlikely to be responsible/involved? Not buying it. We have seen in the industry ‘silent’ pressure by companies investing in developers to push profits above all.
Things don’t need to be spelled out and recorded (and they do tend to avoid anything along those lines for PR reasons) to put excessive pressure on developers to put in anti-consumer mechanics into games. It’s the same style of strategy of ‘totally not mandatory overtime, honest!’.
The blame isn’t all on Tencent, Fatshark are the ones ultimately making the decisions but to say that Tencent is blameless is not something that I can believe, especially looking at other games, mechanics, and monetization that were released after Tencent bought a majority share.
It’s not in tencent’s interest to tank a studio they’ve bought.
The anti-tencent sentiment is entirely because of them being a Chinese company that’s subservient to the CCP and it won’t go away even if it’s conclusively proven that they did literally everything in their power to address every single complaint about the game.
“predatory” is a loaded word. It doesn’t have any real meaning. You can’t just call everything predatory because you don’t like it.
I have a business and I run “limited time” discounts. I also have different discount codes on counters at local businesses that are permenant. Name a US clothing/department store that doesn’t have huge “sales” that rotate or coupons that expire in 3 days. I watched an espresso machine go up $150 two months before black friday so that they could “discount” it. Welcome to retail. Be disatisfied, don’t buy anything from the store.
I bet if you asked nicely Hedge may tell you how many different designers working on different systems there are in FS and you will see the MTX designer isn’t holding anyone back.
