To put that concept to the test, ask yourself what happens when a player unlocks the last mission. He now unlocked a mission he has no actual reason to play. What’s the point of even having tech remnants in the last mission then?

Which is why I’d like to know from our COMMUNITY MANAGER if the remnants can be stored for future map refreshes to help us get to potentially juicier modifers quicker on a reset.
Also how often they were planning to do map resets for this mode.
Considering I was done with the last two updates after a session or two, I’m not surprised they’re concerned about retention. But it really is missing the forest for the trees here.
It smells like they wanted to create a smaller gap between updates by artificially extending the time takes to get through the content. I am curious how many of these new grid points are significantly different, as that’ll tell me whether or not they’re also trying to hide shallow content.
I just hope the level designers are now free from Expedition Prison and can go back to making new maps for the existing modes. But I’ve been conned by Fatshark before, “We’re totally going to be able to make more maps, faster” is a lie I very much want to believe.

Collecting tech remnants just to unlock more places to collect tech remnants on isn’t exactly my idea of engaging gameplay. I feel like they missed a great opportunity to add red weapons and make them unlockable/upgradeable through tech remnants or something.
I am more curious in how the map physically changes. I’ve noticed new POIs and a time-of-day change with gridpoint Beta, but I have not spent enough time to discern the extent of the differences.
I find the gameplay itself to be quite engaging, with a lot more focus on strategy over tactics, and not just killing everything you see.
But I agree, the metaprogression is lackluster and only serves to artificially delay how quickly you can experience all the mode has to offer. I only hope it does have more to offer, and we’re not just going to slightly different variations of the same map. Because at that point It calls into question how well the time of the people creating levels is being managed. If the result is “They could have stopped 3 gridpoints ago and better spent that effort making a mortis map instead” I’ll be peeved for sure.
I think another issue with the system is how it’s tuned also. I’m realizing more and more how grindy this is. If you’re not maximizing your tech remnant gains, you have to do a map like twice as often to keep going.
If you want to maximize your tech remnant gains, you have to full loot the map. The timer is actually pretty tight so it’s best to split up to do that. But if you split up the entire game kinda falls apart and spawns break and thigns spawn/despawn in your face.
It’s not an exaggeration to say the gamemode is barely functional if you play the game the way the tech remnant system encourages you to

fatshark never fails to miss the opportunity to make something actually good, like 100% stat weapons with normally impossible op blessing combos that are only usable in new mode(because bringing it back to the ship would get you executed for tech heresy or something), purchased during the run.
it’s like fatshark serves you a steaming bowl of turd and your reward for finishing it is increasingly larger bowl of turd.
fatshark didn’t understand that extraction shooters have a time limit and stuff because people want to be greedy because they can bring out the stuff they found. we get basically nothing over normal modes in karktide, if I already have every zone unlocked, my goal starts to deviate from what those who didn’t unlock all zones and this naturally creates anti-teamplay scenarios. like in helldivers 2 where the dumbs want to full clear the map when I just want to extract with some samples.
