Suggestions for Plasma gun rework/rebalancing

Hello devs and everybody.

I would like to share some suggestions for the incoming balance/nerf for Plasma gun.

Personnally, I think Plasma gun is currently unbalanced in several aspects:

Firstly, the primary fire, with its mix of power, perfect accuracy and infinite cleave, is clearly a too strong option, especially compared to the charged shot.

On the other hand, the charged shot is a bit clunky to use, with no real advantage in terms of ammo efficiency: primary fire can do as much damage with the same ammo count (and sometimes less).

To balance this, I suggest:

  • Reworking the secondary fire/charged shot mechanic. I suggest changing it to match the Hellbore lasgun one: hold left mouse button to charge.
  • In addition, nerfing the global accuracy of the weapon. Plasma gun is heavy, it should not have a perfect accuracy, especially with the actual primary fire. I suggest introducing some dispersion and changing the secondary fire (right mouse button) into a braced mode which would reduce this dispersion.
  • Finally, lowering the cleave of primary fire and maybe tweaking its damage so it won’t be always the best option for ammo efficiency.

The goals of these suggestions are a more balanced weapon and a different approach of playing it, with more satisfying use of charged shot and the necessity to switch with braced mode for better accuracy.

Moreover, I would love the introduction of plasma pistol, which could be a lighter and more versatile counterpart of plasma gun, with less power, ammo, cleave, but better accuracy and mobility.

making plasma guns a lot heavier could only really work if the plasma pistol is released
