Strange behaviour

Issue Type (Required):

Performance

Issue Description (Required):

Roughly around the same time as the last patch, I came back to DT and it had loaded in a really low resolution. I changed the res back to normal but noticed that the menu inside DT wrongly displays which resolution is native. I’m not sure if any other settings had been changed as I couldn’t remember what they were all on.

Since this happend, performance has been absolutely terrible, no matter what graphics settings I have used and also noticed CPU (not GPU) temps getting very high during high density battles.

It’s really weird. Its been running smooth as silk (more or less) on high graphics settings (but ray tracing turned off) for a long time and all of a sudden something has changed.

I’ve reinstalled gfx drivers, onboard drivers, verified steam files, checked all gfx settings both with Nvidia and windows, but still something feels off and it’s not smooth anymore.

Does anyone please have any suggestions about what I could try?

I’m really out of ideas right now.

I’m wondering if DT is suddenly getting settings confused between my external screen and integrated laptop screen (or between GPU or onboard GPU settings), but no idea how I’d check that.

It’s making the game unplayable right now unfortunately and I’m desperate to fix it.

Any help greatly appreciated!

In windows settings. System → Display → Graphics

If Darktide.exe profile not there you can add using “Add Desktop app” to point to darktide.exe

But there is dropdown option to “Let windows decide” or you can manually select GPU

To also confirm once game loaded.

Task manager will show GPU 0 or 1, so probably GPU 1 is your discrete GPU if laptop.

Task manager → Details tab, right click columns headers to add GPU information. Then you’ll see if Darktide is using correct one.

Forgot to add. When I do nvidia driver updates/reinstall. It changes my refresh rate to 60hz. So I have to remember to set to highest in windows. So you’ll want to check so for laptop display and external monitor.

Thanks I’ll double check this when im next playing.

I use a huge TV as a monitor which I think is 60hz anyway so I probably need to keep it there anyway.

So I checked and it was using my rtx 5090 and I also booted up Indiana Jones for a while at almost max settings to give a little stress test and it was fine, so I dont think it’s hardware.

It’s so weird. I’m getting weird tearing and artifacts but just in DT ever since it had that wobbly and automatically set to the lowest resolution.

I’ve updated every driver I can think of and now just uninstalled DT and reinstalling.

Will see if issue persists.

Something changed and it wasn’t me that actioned it!

Edit: I’ve just fully cleared my Nvidia cache, set it to unlimited and reinstalled DT and then set dlss frame cap to 120 and it seems to be ok now. I’ll keep an eye on it.

But if it was because of shader cache then I wonder how many other people might be suffering from that without realising??

After you reinstalled. Guess we’ll see if that resolves it now :+1:

Could be a bad cache like you say - we do see this happen occasionally!
