Smite kills chaff well enough, and “softens up” everything else, making it’s easier to kill them for teammates. Vet’s frags work the same way. But anyway, as I said, I have never met a psyker smiting everything since I left Heresy I think, because it simply won’t work on a dense crowd. So either this is a made up issue, or you’re just playing game with people who are still learning how to play it. Psykers using Smite I saw used it to hold things when other means failed.
“Smite gets worse with higher density” is not the take I expected to see this morning, but here we are…
“I’ve never seen it so you’re making it up!” gotta love it.
Is there an amount of people telling you the same story that will make you believe it?
I played with a TL ~450 smyker last night on an Auric rotten armor mission.
But don’t worry, I just made that up specifically to trick you.
I’m not doubting that a lot of people here have entered an Auric match with a Psyker that has chosen Smite, but I guess what I’m curious about is what is defined as a “smyker” by most of the people who really seem to hate it.
I play a TL 400~ psyker and my main build has smite in it, but it is a rare option I use with Empowered Psionics for oof moments. This usually melts (kills) everything except the heavier armored fellas within 5 seconds or so. I can’t say I run into that many psykers who rely on smite for anything that a CC grenade or other similar ability wouldn’t have also been appropriate to use.
To reiterate, this is for just Auric, I don’t really play anything below that and could see how that would get annoying if it were common.
Perhaps reading more of the thread than the last comment could help you with that…
I literally answered this already and so have many others.
Sorry if this sounds rude but far too many people lately want to participate in these discussions but refuse to read what’s already been said.
Surge staff
Smite
Bubble shield
Empowered Psyonics (I guess, maybe, doesn’t matter).
How to smyker: load into game, select smite, that’s it, that’s the game.
Thanks for at least replying politely. That is too hard for some folks here lately.
Never seen anyone actually play that way in all the hours I’ve played, or we just killed everything that was being smote so quickly it never became an annoyance. How low is the DPS on the team if these zapped hordes are slowing down the progress? Are DPS not moving forward into them? Are they doing it to following hordes behind the team? If so just keep marking the next checkpoint until they get the message like we do for everyone going the wrong way.
i posted more “ethical” uses of smite above:
i think it depends on how much someone is relying on smite. those who get called “smykers” mostly stand and hold smite, and are not good at anything else.
Dude I have 3,000 hours in this game and my entire block list is perma smite psykers. Also why would you ever use smite to kill chaff when you can just play with venting shriek and burn them to death all game? Also smite often makes dealing with enemies difficult because the entire game you have to play a guessing game as to when your smite psyker is going to need to quell and when the armor your standing infront of is going to start moving again. Smite is also horrible for on dodge talents. Only bad players think smite is useful outside of like 2% of situations. You wanna know whats good at killing chaff? An inferno staff. There is no argument that perma smite psykers havent taken over every difficulty. Like 95% of psykers I see are perma smite psykers who barely know how to engage with the game let alone play the class. Auric and maelstrom is filled with perma smite psykers and they either leave and go back to damnation when they die or they just rage quit and go join another auric game. You must not be playing this game if you dont run into smite psykers. I didnt play this game for ten days straight and the day I came back I Had 3 perma psykers within 3 games and two of them were in the very first game I joined. To say they have completely hijacked these jobbies would be a gross understatement at this point within the games life cycle. I can see why so many people only play havoc cuz atleast you get away from all the noob ass toxic perma smite psykers in every other difficulty.
having to make up for your teammates massive lack of dps as well as constantly killing enemies slowed down by someone only smiting can easily add an extra ten minutes to a game if not more depending on clutching and people dying constantly which regularly happens when playing with someone who isnt doing anything. A perma smite psykers can turn a 25 minute game into a 35 minute slog very easily.you could also argue games are slowed down by a psyker opting to Hold hordes in place at range as opposed to running venting shriek and burning them out.
If you boast about your hours and say that the entire block list is in psykers with smite, and you sit in gold + Mael, the question arises. Why are you sitting there, because after the referee comes out, going there for players with your amount of hours must be terribly boring due to the increase in the pace and aggressiveness of matches. I’ll just say that regular missions are for fun, and criticizing people who use smite there 24/7 is, to put it mildly, stupid.
If you don’t like seeing psykers with smite - havoc as a host, but don’t forget the mod for viewing builds, and that’s it.
I also have this experience, i don’t see a lot of Psykers playing like “smykers” at all.
Some builds just tick people off i guess, because everyone argues that smite isn’t a “good” way to play this game, but i disagree.
FIFY.
Oh, and why’s that? Remember, the issue is (perma) smykers, as @Pirx and others have clarified dozens of times, it’s basically a quasi-permanent use of smite.
No…we can extend this logic to include any antisocial behavior, gobbling up ammo, eating all the heals, stealth knife rushing and audi-5000ing when too many mobs pile up etc., “fun” right?
This is a Smyker.
Probably because those Smykers either realize Smite is subpar compared to alternatives like Shriek Soulblaze, Trauma Flayer and Scrier Crit build, or they give up on Psyker entirely for a class like Ogryn/Arbites that is far far more forgiving.
the only thing worth quitting on regular auric for is rumbler spam imo. the entire wave is gone in like 2 grenades, if you have an AMD card you probably have frame issues too. I find the rumbler most obnoxious of all when it comes to removing all gameplay from the round.
smite users are 100% bad usually and need a bodyguard, but that’s also a ton of auric players and not unusual at all for me. but the freaking rumbler is the worst thing in the game at the minute.
Same here, I can’t even remember last time I encountered a Psyker that would fit the picture painted here. Either I am extremely lucky (and I have 1900 hours in this game), or the OP is extremely unlucky. ![]()
Gotta make those 2 wound curios and Crystalline Will useful by minimizing toughness production I see.
I see people play with smite, and almost always in a “responsible” (not perma-smiting) way. In my experience the minority of smite builds are so called Smykers.
You say this like it’s some kind of truth but you are just speculating, unless you have some actual data?
But if that was the case then the problem is kind of self healing and not really a problem but more of an annoyance? Because there is always gonna be those who play annoyingly and not how you prefer.
I’m well aware about the subject issue, but I doubt that players are some qualified “smyker-judges” that know precisely where the accepted threshold for using smite “correctly” is. I think it’s far more likely that people just see Psykers use smite and get triggered by it.
Should we really change things just because it’s an annoyance?
Could Smite be better, sure everything can always become better.
Is it a problem, i would say no.
I’m not asking anyone to agree with me but, my point is that everyone doesn’t look at Smite as a subpar ability, it’s great at what it does; making enemies stand still and soften them up.
