Smite still needs changes

the secondary target damage is some of the most schizoid code there is in the game i think its completely random. i tried a few times to find out how its calculated to no avail.
so far best i could come up with is that it was ~20% of the main target damage with a cap of 370

This sums up so much of what is wrong with gaming - and a lot of other things - as a whole. People have stopped thinking about something and “just google the answer” or some other equivalent whenever a question of what to do pops up. Never once do these bloody moronic buttwipes consider that just maybe what google etc shows is the most popular, not the best reasoned. Popular. Which means they get the most upvotes - even if said upvote is being repeated by word of mouth - and what determines what the program shows you? How many times something has gotten upvoted. Can we say “self-perpuating circle jerk of stupidity” kids?

Oh and Smite wasn’t and isn’t the problem here. Unlike the old (at the time unknown) case where flamer + Chastise The Wicked resulted in a single flamer being able to literally burn down an entire Damnation hode including crushers, Smite doesn’t deny other players the ability to participate in the fight. It just makes it simplier until Sparky forgets to watch their peril for the 0.5 seconds it takes to make an oopsie. If anything its making some ideas viable - good luck trying to land more than one rear attack or head shot on mobs that move about and have the reflexes of a black belt kangaroo hopped up on the entire coffee production of Latin America. To me having a psyker with smite was the equivalent of being able to tell the servers “no, lag is not an acceptable reason for mobs to literally moving faster than a laser - now sit down, shut up, and take your beating like a good subroutine this once”.

I guess some people absolutely need to press the same button three extra times to feel that their entire existence has meaning. And Smite denies them that one avenue of self-worth.

because it’s frankly easier to just leave the game and requeue and not deal with smyker when, frankly more often than not can barely play without that crutch tool, to argue with them. I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve just start habitually blocking players who use smite and just leaving. it’s nearing its maximum.

I feel like turning off the game at your will is problematic- at any skill level tbh.

I feel that making Smite use a resource, similar to Assail but slower to recharge, 3 charges max, could solve a lot of problems. That way, to balance the fact that it can’t be spammed anymore, its damage could be significantly improved.

People would use it less often but it would be just as or more effective, so that’s less time standing around turning everything into practice dummies, since it would actually kill them instead. It also fulfills the Palpatine power fantasy better.

even if a cooldown is added or a limited number of charges is set, I really want the effect that turns all enemies within range into helpless targets to be removed.
it should either be specialized for single-target damage or deal moderate damage to all enemies within range.
adding a brittleness might also be a good option.

… and thus we see how the stupid spreads.

Smite is NOT a freaking damage ability. Period. Not up for debate. $100 right now says the if someone was to look at the original design document, assuming such a sophisticated concept exists at Obesetuna, it was billed as an utility focused blitz. One whose intent was to allow a psyker to have group utility and still carry something asside from a surge staff. The miniscule damage it does? There to prevent players from stacking it and other incapacitation effects into a permanent state of stun in some future PvP mode.

The bare reality is that smite is not and never has been “broken”. It has been doing its intended job of locking down hordes for the rest of the group to deal with just fine. Its the PLAYERS who are the Throne damned problem. Specifical that group of narcissitic control freaks and their airhead followers who deem that anything that doesn’t conform to a “hahah I has skillz by pressing 2 more buttons noobz” concept frequently dubbed “meta” as bad. As they always are. In ever single game. And when they’re done helping destroy Darktide by turning into for-megasweats-only playground they will move on to the next one.

Because for them its never about the game. Its all about showing off how “important” they are to the only person they give two craps about. Themselves.

If you can’t see how broken is unlimited crowd control ability then stupid here is only you.

The worst? Worse than Horus? That’s heresy!

So the people who don’t like Palpatine Jr turning the game into a quasi-perma slog of a failed disco zappy whack-a-mole are the “narcissitic[sic] control freaks”, gotcha.

Hmm, you don’t say.

Apparently you haven’t been reading anyone’s comments on like a dozen’s people’s complaints about this ability so let me make this very, very crystal clear.
People don’t like smite not because it does no damage or it’s utility- smoke grenades are literally that but are surprisingly decent niche pick in havoc especially in the SEA/East Asia Region. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iDCG9M8rkk

No, it literally because STOPS THE ENTIRE GAME. The entire of point of Darktide, and FPS games or literally any action video in general, is to kill the enemy before it kills you. By removing the ability for the enemy to even allow them to attack you, you are remove any sense of friction or challenge from what people want out of darktide; you literally are removing the entire reason why people play the game in the first place. Smite turns Darktide from a 4-player struggle to survive into a mediocre shooting range that noobody signed up for.
