Slayer is kinda obsolete now

This isn’t an open ended movie on philosophy, it’s a 4 minute clip. Your ally and bots died while you were back faffing about with throwing axes, you spammed two handed charge attacks into a horde because that’s the only way to ensure 100% uptime of your 50% for the hits you face tanked, you jumped into the corner and died.

Please desist.

The point of sharing the clip was to talk about the utility of bounding leap for either closing distance or creating space and dealing with specials, which it worked great for.

Shocker, I suck with the 2h axe not having used it as much, still trying to figure out new slayer, and cata was a total trainwreck of overtuned then too. But hey, fixate on that stuff all you like

I’ll be sure to record a clip for you when I play tomorrow.

Which you then immediately died after exactly as what was stated would happen. I won’t mix words. You don’t use the career so that’s why you played awfully? Don’t know the weapons so that’s why you didn’t know what to do? No clue about Slayer besides this one jump made you go really far? Then why are you in this thread. For the purpose of keeping this place clean I’ll stop replying now.

They could easly bind the 2 talents that increase your power depending on your loadout into 1 talent and add instead a dodge talent or any other tanky talent imo and/or get ride of the 5% crit chance talent.

I ve played a lot of slayer in beta and in live version and what baffles me a bit is that i m never top damage regardless of me having 40%damage boost on and QQ canceling 2h hammer +40%attack speed. I know that the number of circle isnt suppose to tells you how a career performs but i think it s realy weird how i can never exceed for exemple Zealots damage or WHC…Knowing that i play too much aggressively (without dying for the most part) !

Also another thing that bother me is Zealot, if you compare Slayer to Zealot there are some clear unbalanced things…That was my quick though “damage wise”, otherwise i think slayer needs some more survivability tools, his jump is still crap (because of all the issue we know) and can never be used as an free escape card, if you play with no mouvment speed talent you clearly have an hard time dealing with mixed pack of ennemies it makes playing slayer boring and forces you to hold block while not having any bonus block stats (stamina, stam regen, block cost reduc etc…).

I think the main issue is that with the stagger changes some of his build are just mehh and the power increase talent depending on your loadout makes it even worse…TempHP talent on swings also got too much nerfed…Finaly i think it was unfair to remove his HP, dodge talent, TempHP talent and completly nerf its damage reduction talent choice.

Yeah I agree slayer need more nerfs, he should be better at being glass cannon that he thematically is

glass cannon? Thematically? You know most Slayers take crap tons of would be death wounds and still keep fighting until the fight is done one way or the other.

Anyways you can’t get any more glass than he is right now unless you set his health to 75. Which you know what? Why not. It’d fit in line with everything else we’ve gotten

I have now played with pretty much every other class there is and one question comes to mind regarding Bardin

WHY DID YOU LET THE INTERN REDESIGN HIM?!?

Slayer’s offensive power is okay. And with throwing axes he becomes more versatile. It’s just a situation where Adrenaline Surge is still mandatory No Escape is the only good ability. And the second tier of talents are awful. Not as bad as the first tier, but everybody has to deal with the first tier.

Other than that. Even with how less fun the New jump is, it’s a lot more powerful

Edit:
And I should make a mention on how they’re practically demanding perfect playthrough at all times without the room for a single mistake ever on a melee centric career without guaranteeing your own death

My idea of slayer is totally different from how it was made both in pre and after WoM.
The Slayer is a one bad ass Dwarf that fight a the end of his energy until death. For me even the possibility to go down and get a chance to be recovered by a team mate is a full heresy. My ideological Slayer Dwarf is a machine of war (like 180 HP) with a LOT of bonus in damage with any melee weapons and resistence on damage when his health is very low…and when his health down to 0 he die immediately.

But this is only my suggestion of course as always :stuck_out_tongue:

I like the idea that he doesn’t have a downed state, anyway - he just fights until he drops dead, which fits pretty thematically overall. He could still potentially be saved during that time, maybe exclusively with healing, depending on how you wanted to balance it. That sounds hilarious and amazing.

After playing him some more recently, I feel very comfortable saying Slayer is still definitely Legend viable at least. He still melts hordes and elites very well with the right setup. The biggest problem IMO is lack of choice, and he’s definitely a bit too squishy. Give him 125 HP and change the crit chance talent to something more competitive with the other two so you’re not forced to double up on 1H or 2H weapons and he’d probably be in a good enough spot.

The laziest possible fix would be to give him 125 HP and buff the crit chance talent up to 10%. Non optimal but I honestly think even that’d be enough. Preferably make the 50% damage reduction while swinging match your attack animations better and have a more accurate description, but honestly that’s icing.

Obviously if leap wasn’t so finicky right now that’d help.

The problem isn’t that he has problem doing Legend. He doesn’t. Nobody does. The problem is that he’s one of the weaker melee centric options directly related to his durability scaled to his damage output. Oblivious to Pain is an actual waste of a slot now, Grimnirs Focus does not’ refresh or apply to the throwing axes and so is unreliable unless spamming charged hits.

He still has mandatory Talents as well which I talk about at length over here

At the absolute best you have a career that does marginally more damage than it’s melee centric foils like Zealot with a sideways comparison to Shade. At its absolute worst you have what is undoubtedly the hardest career to succeed at still being overshadowed by other options.

It’s not the case of Slayer at Launch even before both waves of dodge changes and temp changes (the temp on kill pushing him from balanced to overpowered as he gained the ability to farm elites) where he was hard to play but had high levels of damage output and good enough survivability that he could contend with a ranged centric game at the time (even if it felt awful doing so because ranged did everything better). Now other melee centric careers do great damage as well on top of ranged options being as powerful comparatively as they were in this games first pass. It’s simply an untenable situation.

Leap bugging out on various terrain isn’t the crowning problem. His entire package is.
Look at RV. Tons of different build paths and talent configurations you can take on top of an actually useful DR talent… Look at IB, with the exception of Draki Wrath. Tons of build paths as well with varying degrees of interactivity with different weapon loadouts. Back to Slayer which again I’ve gone at great length to explain the problems with his talent tree.

New leap aside from terrain problems (of which there are many) is pretty good. Enemies no longer automatically upswing at you, you can phase through enemies, and you land a good distance away on top of getting your steroid. Everything else, however, is awful. And I don’t think somebody who created

probably thought things through to well. A passive that directly needs a talent of which there is only ONE choice being Grimnir’s Focus given that Oblivious to Pain doesn’t work on the primary source of damage anybody takes in this game anymore (barring minotaur who deserves his own topic) is an absolutely atrocious Passive.

And we’ll be stuck this way for months. Quite literally the only two requests from Slayers was to make Adrenlaines tree have better talents or else move Adrenaline to a passive and/or give it some in built DR and we got neither. What a laugh.

Drengi grit is a thematic passive, but useless when you’re stuck in 2-shot range of Gors
