HOLY. SIGMAR.
Honestly I couldn’t give less of a damn how “the lore stuff” works. I’m so glad that finally, 621 days after the last career release, there’s the LONG awaited Sienna 4th career.
I honestly CANNOT WAIT to see how it works in-game and what new mechanics she will bring with her! (And hopefully don’t be too busted, I don’t think we need more things at Coru BW power level. )
And I’m certain I’m gonna have a good few laughs at beloved Saltzpyres new dialogues!
I mentioned something like this because it seemed to be that Sofia had to have something to do with the final career, I just had no idea how close I’d be to correct. I thought it would be ridiculous for Sienna to pick up necromancy somehow or for Sofia to somehow merge. (and it is)
Considering how Sienna and Salty met, surely this completely obliterates all the “redemption” she has done in his eyes, and completely undercuts the philosophical/moral conflict in the Tower of Treachery? It’s not that I don’t think the gameplay will be fun, but it really makes all the characters incoherent if they tolerate her as a Necromancer. I guess we’re lucky Bardin never had a Chaos Dwarf career
I’ll be honest, not super thrilled after all this time. Perhaps there’ll be more context that elaborates further, so I won’t write it off until I’ve got all the pieces, but at first glance, I’m really not a fan of this much.
I mean to be fair, the U5 were very nonchalant with Kerilian race-changing into straight up Druchii in her Shade career and ran around as an evil Shade.
(which imo was a mistake…should have been a Khainite Assassin)
Bleh. I mean, I’m very happy for new Vermintide content always and I’m very curious about the gameplay, which I’m sure will be interesting and new. But, like many others have said, right now I mainly feel disapointed because of how this messes with the characters and the story. The explanation for how this happened and how the others are going to respond to Sienna becoming a necromancer had better be absolutely phenomenal to make this feel even a little bit acceptable…
Sienna becoming a necromancer out of pretty much nowhere and somehow getting accepted by the others (specifically Salz and Kruber) feels like disrespect towards the characters and the story, for what feels like nothing but “rule of cool” gameplay and flashiness reasons. I mean, grailknight Kruber was already quite the äss-pull lorewise which felt like somewhat of a non-sequitur for his development and story up until then, but at least the others working with a grailknight is totally believable. It doesn’t feel jarring to run through levels with a grailknight by your side. But Sienna the necromancer feels like both shïtting on the character’s story we had so far, and the others as well. No matter how interesting the gameplay is going to be, I can’t help but think it’s going to feel jarring to play Salz and have a mysteriously and suddenly converted necromancer on your team, and it all going down like that’s nothing special.
Without further context this new class feels a lot like jumping the (fat)shark… I know it’s too early and not fair to judge without the full picture, but right now instead of excited like I’ve been for any Vermintide content so far, I’m apprehensive at best…
RIP Order of Fury. RIP her faith in Myrmidia. RIP my dreams of a fiery spear and shield.
I’m kinda non-plussed. Really feels more like an April Fool’s gag. But whatever. I guess I’ll wait for the other shoe to drop and see how it plays out.
I think you’re confused. You can think that having a Necromancer in the U5 is goofy and silly and still enjoy the gameplay. I doubt many people here truly dislike this so much that they wouldn’t buy the DLC just because of the implications of having a Necromancer on the team.
I’m super hyped for a Necromancer, and I don’t even think it’s much of a lore stretch. Undead are famously opposed to Chaos, especially in the end times. Gelt teamed up with Vlad, and even learned a little necromancy to fight Chaos before turning into the Chamon Incarnate. There’s lore precedent for a human metal wizard learning necromancy to use in defense of the empire, without turning evil. Heck, Unchained is more of a Chaos aligned career than a Necromancer. And I for one am super excited for the banter between Spooky Sienna and the rest of the crew. The drama! I’m thinking of the Eisenhorn/Cherubael dynamic - radical inquisitor using the weapons of the enemy against them. Except in this case Sienna isn’t even evil/Chaos aligned.
As for her career progression, Fatshark already hand-waived that away with the whole “different careers are a multiple reality/tzeentchian skullduggery” type situation. Honestly, even with zero justification I’d much rather a novel career with brand new mechanics then one that played nicer with the characters established story. If this was a Bioware RPG I’d be upset, but a co-op hoard FPS should prioritize gameplay. The story is just there to give context to our rat smashing, now let me smash rats with an army of skeletons please.
