it really feels like havoc wasn’t necessary.
with proper balance adjustments to some op weapons and player skills, auric HISTG could have been made significantly more challenging, and that would have been enough. for players who still find it too easy, maelstrom was already there as an option.
to go further, simply replacing maelstrom with havoc would have sufficed.
as it stands, havoc is nearly impossible for most players to clear without using certain meta builds, and on the flip side, auric becomes too easy and uninteresting when meta builds are used.
I strongly disagree.
No acceptable amount of nerfs to either equipment or skills could replicate the mechanical differences that havocs modifiers provide.
Making the shooter modifiers basegame would also not go over well.
If replicating the difficulty was the goal, you’d be making a different game and not a balance adjustment.
As the target audience for Havoc 35+ i can say that auric is far too easy even after nerfing outliers. I can beat aurics with grey off meta weapons and no skills. I telopots and some of his players beat auric monstrous maelstrom with 4 level 1 characters. I wasnt quite up to the task though i bet i could do it now.
Anyway - those meta builds mostly abuse overtoughness mechanics that really need nerfs. Once they get GENTLY (i hope) nerfed i think you’ll start to see people getting sorted more naturally into their actual skill domain which will be gradiated along difficulties 1-40 rather than what we have now with people just blasting 40, throwing it in the bin because they cheesed it, and playing more aurics. I only play Havoc 35+ now. Its all i enjoy. That and duos i guess. But i like my coop game with 4 players to be coop with 4 players.
None of this is accounting for havocs serious issues, which are all largely agreed on by the community gestalt.
