I’ve noticed the disparity with weapons being weaker/very situational when you can go with an all-rounder. The shotgun is in an okay state, but it could use a little love. I think a good idea would to have it’s primary fire (from the hip) be special where it shoots in a wide horizontal arc with strong stagger for mobs, but little to no stagger on armored, specialists, elite until you get much close. As well as buff the range and change the damage from the pellets to be flat (so it doesn’t matter how many pellets hit, it deals a flat damage) with additional pellets doing bonus damage. This way, you can use it at a farther range since at that point, you can conserve ammo and just use the power sword or any melee with a good cleave attack.
With it’s secondary fire, it works with a “smart choke” that greatly decreases it’s spread with a smaller aoe, but does much more damage, and can stagger specialists/elites much more easily.
Finally, to make the special actually “special” and to round out the weapon. Rather than load a special shell (which makes no sense since they load it into the maghold instead of directly to the chamber) the shotgun has an underbarrel rifle that shoots a powerful Armor-Piercing round dealing massive damage even to carapace enemies (like 800) and then has to be reloaded. (It’s based on a survival shotgun but I don’t remember it’s name)
I’d be down for another Mark/Version of the shotgun configured like this.
I want a shotgun with a consistent spread between hip-fire/ads (somewhere in the between the current spreads), more ammo, and the special to be dragon’s breath or a slug.
I was thinking of that too and it’d fit well if we were able to customize our weapons further, but it’s probably just a pipe dream for weapon modification. I could see it implemented as a mark/variation.
Even if it doesn’t have the spread shot like you mentioned, I just want a really beefy, slow firing shotgun that has good damage. Give me my boomstick!
Free reload perk is pointless, you’re better off picking up counterfire, toughness on elite kill, and reload speed on elite kill. You can pick up tactical reload if you want even faster reload, and I recommend it, as the shotgun is the only gun besides the plasma gun I use it with.
FYI the animation has you load it into the tube and rack the slide. The last shell you load into the tube is the first one to get picked up by the carrier and loaded when you rack the slide, so it checks out fine there.
You must not have tried it. 22 consecutive shots is a lot at the start of a horde rush with ragers and scab maulers. I run it on damnation. Would you rather reload 1 bullet 30% faster in the middle of a fight or get 11?
Nah. sound of a round being chambered
You keep your mitts off my baby. She does just fine at kneecapping hordes and elites right now. Any more and she might get called overpowered, become the flavor of the month, and end up nerfed and sad. And when baby gets sad daddy gets… angry. points said baby below some belt
Understand?
Now a new type of shotgun? Go for it.
Though I don’t know about the idea of a semi-auto with a high capacity magazine. One that starts stepping on the Rippers toes and two, Fatsharks seems to stick close to 40k dogma. And pretty much all Munitorium-approved shotguns are pumps. So maybe variable choke (hip wide ADS narrow) with the special being a slug?
There’s 3 other classes that deal with hordes infinitely better than Vet does, and when that fails, I have the power sword.
You know what the other classes don’t have? The ability to light up pesky shooters for over a minute with 75% damage reduction, 25% damage increase, and 25+25% toughness per elite kill.
It’s pointless and you’re doing your team a disservice by running it.
I’d love to see different MK of Shotguns with special Ammo - 40K Lore has a lot in Stock:
e.g.:
Executioner shell: well that would be overpoweres as it would be lore-correctly a fire and forget - perhaps i’d work with a BB-like mechanic - the Cogitator need to log on
Ignitus Shotgun/ Inferno Shell: applies Burn to targets
Solid slugs: very high single Target (perhaps as a special)
Stun Shell: perhaps as a speacial
Gas Rounds: for Cover breaking (according to lore they would act as mini gas-grenades doing DoT)
