Really? no Ogryn Cleaver buff? Serious?

i like that, especially the can opener knife, special could be grabbing enemy ogryns and stabbing them into the visor, under the shield etc. anyway something requiring more finesse than forward + BBB with the bully club. running them over like bowling pins makes them bleed, which can be exploited with the knife.

Even before the Ogryn rework it already (deservedly) had some of the best horde clear in the game on the krourk, only thing able to beat it was bull butcher, old heavy sword and eventually new shield.

And I know that sounds stupid now but at that point in the game, the horde clear actually mattered. Krourk was stil able to kill crushers with like 3-4 heavies which is an ok metric for a horde focused wep. Bull butcher gave that up for having slightly better horde clear even and was popular before they changed the krourk moveset for that, sometimes even after, showing how differently the game was balanced when people actively decided that they’re bringing a tool that can’t kill crushers in order to do more damage to hordes.

Ogryn rework is already past the point where powercreep started throwing all that out the window.

In fact if you want to see how negatively all these balance changes impacted ogryn, when’s the last time you saw one light attack with a bull butcher? The bull butcher literally never got nerfed, only buffed. Options have literally been removed from his arsenal due to the changes. They need to fix the surrounding game first then look at his weapons I think. Otherwise the cycle is doomed to repeat. Power creep never stops unless they stop it

Sorry if I’m not up on all the marks but the stabby stabby knife stabs good on the pokey lights

Slide + light + light + light → horde, tells the lil’ shooters how I truly feel about ‘em!!

Yeah that one’s the krourk, it’s almost exclusively used right now because it’s the only one with workable armor pen and the meta shifted heavily towards armor spam

Meanwhile the bull butcher (the one that has only sweeps with quite a fast, good horde clear light combo) used to be the most popular and was never nerfed. It was only ever buffed. Yet it’s still the least popular now. Just trying to highlight how the culmination of changes in what enemies spawn + how much HP they have affects the weapon balance a lot more than numbers tweaks on the weapons usually do, and in this case negatively.

I prefer bull butcher. It has the best after push attack combo, which synergises good with ogrins push talents. Lights work fine for brainless horde.

Pure horde clear stopped being relevant since Auric (HI/HISTG) was introduced. Again, clear against trash was good on paper, but showel with BM + Uncanny outperformed it when Bruisers and above enemy classes were mixed. Shield always was one of the best horde and mixed horde clear because of insane stagger, max targets on heavy which were just finished off by Batter on the ground in most cases. I disagree completely that Cleavers were “balanced” at any point, because there were below mid and their niche was questionable at best.

This I 100% agree with. Even if/when powercreep gets adressed, cleavers would need at least blessing rework. Right now there is basically nothing to use except for the Slaughterer, CS and maybe Unstoppable Force, although it’s kinda bad in my experience

Ogryn shovel doesn’t have uncanny, which blessing combo do you mean? Also I found BM to never give me value on the old shovel because it didn’t actually hit headshot oneshot breakpoints on most things. Dunno if it does now, haven’t given BM a shot on it since

I agree though aurics are already past the point of relevance of the knife

Shield did not have enough damage to proc BM either before the large damage buff it got, it certainly wasn’t always that good. Batter did not actually exist pre-talent rework also (unless you full charged a heavy for 2 stacks of bleed lol)

I feel like we’re not connecting on what timeframe we’re talking about. At a certain point ogryn had basically no actually good weapons other than the knives, this was before the rework. New batter then just equalized all of them because who cares what you pick it all bleeds things out. Then post rework they also made crushers spawn a LOT more bit by bit.

My bad, mixed up with Opportunist.

If you mean the very old alpha test era (pre-skill trees) or beta test (pre-itemization), then you’re right, although I wouldn’t even bring that time because half of the talents and blessings didn’t work properly back then.

Just the general timeframe before the talent rework really. I felt that the game balance was best at that time. Patch 13 sent it into an absolute powercreep spiral unfortunately, and none of the original design now makes sense anymore.

In other words the knife got left behind but what’s the actual working fix for it? Turning it into a weapon with good singletarget armor pen would then beg the question what niche the club is meant to have, I think. I feel like the longer the game refuses to un-powercreep the more these problems can’t actually be addressed without inadvertedly taking another weapons unique upsides away.
