Put solo in the game Devs. You’re gonna get more sales like do you not want more money?

Doing a wellness check on solo mode bros. How do you feel after Martins interview on PC Gamer?

I can’t find this interview, do you have a link?

Relevant bit: Vicky boy talking about how co op is REQUIRED and how he feels it needs to be part of the genre.

Y’know, ignoring what solo Mode is supposed to be for.

I think they see Solo mode as “Garrisons” in world of warcraft. Once they added garrisons, people didn’t bother going to hub towns to use shops and such.

But at the end of the day, a sale is a sale, and people who have been waiting for solo mode will buy it for solo mode.

I guess solo mode isn’t a thing in vermintide 2 then /s.
as that game has the exact same “co-op required” mechanics, such as disabler enemies, one way drop downs, and objectives which a player has to interact with while the rest of the team protects them…

I know I’m on an even less popular opinion, wanting True Solo as well (no bots, just lonely lovely)

But I really think that the whole idea of “coop only is the design of the Game” is exactly what makes True Solo even more interesting

Beating the game that is rigged to kill you if you’re alone? That just feels extremely good

Or Left for Dead which he invokes in the SAME SEGMENT.

Let’s all be honest. He doesn’t even know what his own game is, let alone what games inspired it.

What? Explain please.

Victor Magnuson, who did the interview with PC Gamer, has no idea what his own game is, nor the games that inspired it. This is because his game, Darktide, is the third game in Fatshark’s “Tide” franchise. This franchise is basically Left 4 Dead in the Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 universes. Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Warhammer End Times: Vermintide, and Warhammer Vermintide 2 are all “Online Co-op” games that allow their players to launch the game solo in a private lobby with just AI controlled Bot Players as companions. So, when Victor says “Co-op is required” he’s proving that he has no idea what he’s talking about.

The way people just occasionally pop in here, clearly mad, to assert how they are ideologically offended by the idea of solo mode genuinely needs to be studied :sob:

Thanks ChatGPT very cool.

That was handwritten, but ok.

xd?

On top of asking for an explanation then being snarky when provided an excellent one just to be petty, they’re just another one of these future test subjects.

Sorry Bro it looked like it was written by AI, thank you for the response

Vermintide 2 with customizable bots, who could take items, didn’t kill the game.

Why it would kill Darktide?

I just want to relax sometimes… and play with bots.

Don’t worry, 90% of my matches will be with people.

So the issue with solo mode isn’t that it would kill the game, directly anyway. The issue is that Vermintide 2 was built as a self-hosted P2P system, which made private and bot games very easy. The player would just host the game themselves, with the “server” (the thing handling spawns, rewards, loot, communicating with Fatshark’s servers to ensure rewards and achievements were tracked appropriately, etc) running in the background locally on their machine.

Darktide, on the other hand, was built as a remote-hosted, dedicated server system, meaning the “server” is on an actual remote server dedicated to the task, and not the player’s own machine. And because of the way the remote servers are architected, supporting solo games means that there would need to be a server instance spun up for every unique combination of map + modifiers + difficulty + mutators + etc any individual player wanted to play at any given time. This means both that players would still have to deal with latency and disconnects when playing alone, and so it’s not great from the player side, and on the fatshark side, it would get extremely expensive very quickly, probably ruinously so. So that isn’t really a viable option.

“But there’s a soloplay mod!” I hear you say, and you’re right, there is. But that mod doesn’t track your progress or give any rewards on completion or anything else, because there’s no “server” behind it; it’s using a stubbed out empty shell created to drive the Psykhanium, and this shell has none of the functionality a “real” server would have.

In order to support rewards and progress and all that jazz in a solo session, Fatshark would have to tear apart their networking system and rebuild it from the ground up to support both remote and local hosting, and that is not a small undertaking, especially given the pace Fatshark tends to work at. We’re looking at probably 12-18 months of dedicated effort from a significant portion of the engineers on the dev team dedicated to only this project to add local hosting support into the game, and that means new content, classes, weapons, etc would also get pushed back by at least half that much time, probably quite a bit more.

You’re basically asking everyone else who plays and enjoys the game as-is to screw off and get no meaningful updates to the game for a year (which would likely kill the active playerbase, being totally honest). All to deliver a way to play for a tiny fraction of the playerbase which is already 98% delivered through a mod that currently exists.

At the end of the day, it’s just never going to happen. It doesn’t make any sense from either a business or technical perspective. It’d be cool if it was added, and the devs definitely shouldn’t have said anything about at release, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s just not gonna be a thing until maybe Darktide is on its deathbed and they want one last round of sales.

See you would’ve had a point if we hadn’t already been told otherwise.

Solo play is in its final stages of testing as we fix the last issues that remain.

So that massive undertaking has already been done, unless that was just a straight up lie.

Because screw the console peasents, who cares about them? /s
