@Stormforge Ah sorry looks like you didn’t understand what I said. I wasn’t disputing the psyker is difficult to play optimally, just that the class itself isn’t an optimal choice over taking a vet. To be clear, that doesn’t mean the psyker can’t complete all content in the game, or that the class isn’t fun, but it’s certainly not the optimal choice by a decent margin. Other than deleting a large group of tightly-packed poxwalkers, a vet is going to better-handle virtually any situation.
Damnation is already too easy with electro-staff-Psyker.
I was doing Malice at level 3, Heresy at level 10 and Damnation at level 22 ( I would have been trying it at level 15 but I didn’t understand the mission selector / quickplay lobby system ).
Edit: And this was 100% always in solo queue.
I don’t think Psyker is very underpowered, but there are elements that are just not useful or fun to use. With a Voidstrike or Surge staff you can still pull your weight, but the Psyker’s feats just feel largely irrelevant. Brainburst is only really useful to damage the big armored Ogryns. Everything else your team can just DPS down faster, or you’d be more useful using your staff on. That makes Warp Stacks something you only have on occasion, due to brain burst being suck low DPS that you’re not going to waste time using it to build stacks for the measly 12% bonus damage for 25 seconds at four stacks. Soulblaze doe barely any damage and doesn’t CC either, so it feels like a waste of time to invest in that, and as stated before a lot of attacks that are clearly warp attacks don’t count as such and this don’t trigger some of the feats that they should.
With that above in mind if you look at the Psyker feat list, there’s only a few that even seem relevant, and some of these should in all honesty be baseline abilities, such as being able to move at normal walking speed when quelling peril. On top of that, the ultimate ability should go back to removing 100% of your peril instead of 50%, because at 50% you’re back at full peril in basically two charged staff attacks.
Tl;dr, I don’t think Psyker needs massive buffsm, but some elements of the class need a full rework so the class synergizes better and thing like Brain Burst and Soublaze don’t feel so gimmicky.
As someone who plays psyker a LOT, all I can say that psyker is fine. You are killing machine, clearing hordes with great sustain. Yes, you are slower than veteran when responding to sudden spike of elites and specials, but you can stagger them to the end of times.
The void staff is a railgun with blast damage, suppression and stagger, great at picking off ranged, staggering dogs and suppressing gunners. The surge staff controls elites and specials even better through the stun and stagger. The force sword pops specials and elites alike and provide great hord control with the force push. I don’t mention conflag staff, as I disliked it in V2 and I dislike it in DT even more.
Sure, in some cases you can struggle to maintain your thoughness up, especially if your team just falls apart, but this is true for other classes too.
