Tiny issue but the sniper’s laser scope is green and the beam that comes out of it is red, i’d like to suggest you make the scope red as well to both make sense and provide a small visual indicator for snipers before they take aim. It’s not like you don’t make enemies light up read already, maulers bombers, and several other enemies have big glowy red highlights.
Cool idea, would probably have a higher chance of being seen if you change the category of this from General Discussion to Gameplay Feedback.
If anything, I think red would make it harder to distinguish snipers. Scabs are distinctly colored with green and gray, so slapping a bit of red onto a random enemy (that’s supposed to be stealthy, actually, I don’t even know they’re there unless I hear them walking nearby or see their laser after they scope in)
Of course, Bombers, Flamers, and Trappers are exceptions, but it’s important to note that this is deliberate - those important distinctions are MEANT to make them easier to spot against the drab level geometry and crowds of enemies. On the contrary, I think snipers are supposed to be hard to spot until they’ve set up shop.
I don’t think there’s a perfect answer to this problem unless they used a weird color. there are maps were both green and red are hard to see period a lot of the darker lvls have a bunch of glowing green and as for red there are a lot of levels that are well lit with lots of bright gold and red like for example the forge level where you repair it. Tones of red oranges and yellows. Carnival? Tones of green and black the contrast of the snipers color green or red doesn’t really matter for visibility its a lvl by lvl thing the color pallets make one better than the other sometimes and worse at others lvl by lvl. we would need to change the color to something like blue and that’s not very 40k unless you’re running tau or a plasma gun and even then its plasma not cartridge firing sniper rifles. Thats the problem there I’m not sure this would fix much of anything beyond flavor detail to make the game prettier.
EDIT. It also occurs to me that the fact the color contrast between the two caught your eye specifically actually seems to indicate that the color contrast is actually helping you catch the sniper because if you could make out the difference in the heat of battle it seems to me that’s a sign it makes the snipers really stand out significantly as is if you think about it.
it’s not helping me catch the sniper it’s just a really weird thing i notice in the testing room because i know it’s got a giant red laser rangefinder beam but the scope lens is glowing green. i usually can’t see them because they’re surronded by scab shooters who have the same color of green on their visor lenses.
I think the sniper laser should be a different colour to both the scabs lasgun particle colour and, strangely enough, the laser scan colour in the airlocks.
Green is thematically appropriate to their current allegiance and while there are some places where there some green lighting that might make it difficult to see, it happens significantly less often than only identifying after the fact that a single laser in a fusillade of incoming lasbolts was actually a sniper laser.
ok I got you now Yea I see where you’re comming from. It’s never bothered me but I also get why it would bother others
