Perhaps don't punish new players exploring or lagging behind in general

So, I just was in my first mission in this game other than the prologue tutorial. Being new, I ran around familiarizing myself with certain things in the map. I actually was contributing as well though. Restarted some thing that needed to be restarted while others were fighting and I was in a small fire and lost some health but being a team player…it is what it is.

Then we go a bit more into the map…I’m exploring just a bit not too far from other players and found a med station. I tag it…and another player comes along and puts a power core or something in it to get it to work. Awesome! I get healed up and I go to join the group who is now a bit ahead of me other than the player who fixed the med station but is still little ahead of me since he went first at the med station. Not 10 yards from running after the med station heal-up…there’s an enemy attacking me from behind with a flamethrower, but I’m up some stairs and might be able to leave him. Instead, I’ve played co-op games before and don’t want to lead an enemy that might be a pain to the rest of the group so I decide to see if I can take him out myself. I do…not that bad.

But then I run for 5 seconds to the door where the other players have started to fight a boss…the first boss of the map/level and would have been my first boss of the game. But the doors are sealed shut as the fight goes on.

No big deal…kind of a downer but I’ve been here before in other games…the doors will open once the fight is over and I can reunite with my team. Then a enemy traps me from behind with an electrical net and I go down and can’t get out. Or at least theres not prompt on screen telling me if I can press something repeatedly to get out of this net. Ok…ok…again no big deal…I’ll just wait until the doors open after the fight, my team is doing, is over and they’ll get me out. Again, again…I’ve been here before in other co-op games.

Except…the fight is now over…the doors aren’t opening even though the fight is over. The fight did take a few minutes so, now my health is at half and consistently draining in this electrical net…and my team is reviving and moving onward. Nope, they’re moving on…ah…they’re xbox players. That seems typical, maybe.

Well…there goes all that playing of my first match because I’ve got to quit the level.

So I left…and, yeah, not gonna return for a bit. This was my first level ever in this game. I stayed behind (not that long time wise) to find a med station which another player needed as well…and kill an enemy I didn’t want to bring to the group which might be bad…and I got…basically rammed up the ass for it. Sitting there wrapped in a net, with no way to get out myself, having my health drained, and then left for dead by my team…all for trying to be a team player.

Not saying my team should be punished or that this should never happen or these are the types of people that play this game or anything like that…because even if that was all true…you as developers are suppose to redirect this crap show of an experience I just had into something less depressing.

Like…I don’t know…maybe being able to get out of the net draining my health if no team mate is near me or something. See that…thought of a simple solution that quick.

Yes, I’m coming off snarky and sarcastically pissy, but frankly it seems like an easy fix for a crap problem. Why have that sort of enemy roaming around at a time when some of my team is either in a room about to start a boss event (which apparently closes doors) or already started the boss encounter. Also making the doors not open to be able to get to me for a quick help out of the net.

Just whatever…yeah, I’m frustrated since trying to get this game to work in full screen was a dam chore and a half…4K is fine…but 1440p and 1080p won’t get out of window mode. No matter how many time I press the settings for “Fullscreen” or Alt + Enter. So I’m having to play in 4K with 35-50 frames. Mostly the 35-40fps. And “Borderless Fullscreen” makes the game run even worse than in Fullscreen 4K.

ugh.

where sould i begin?
Maybe with welcome to the Forums!

There are no Bossfights mid mission you cannot join!
Maybe you missed to use the servitor/ doorswitch?
Or i do not understand it right what situation you were in.
There are several specialists that can trap you (Scab Trapper and Pox Hounds) and the Mutie that will come for you, grab you, smash you into the ground and throw you away and there are Pox Bursters that will try to a suicide bomb you for massive damage, also Snipers.
You wont be able to free yourself from a Trappers Net or a Pox Hound but need a teammate rescuing you/ kill the Hound, but you can learn to dodge Trappers Net’s and block-push hounds, sometimes also dodge hounds, but block-push is more consistent. Muties can also be dodged. Pox Bursters you can run away from or try to block-push them away from you when at full stamine to have them explode far enough away or shoot, brainburst or flame them while still running at you.

Not sure your team was bad not to free you or if they were maybe not able to get back to you anymore, because some parts of the map are designed in a way once passed you cannot go back.
Or they decided to let you die and pick you up on the next revive spot, because it was better tactical wise regarding their situation or knowing the next respawn is closer than going back to you?!?

I would not give up that early and only after one mission, their is a learning curve for class, weapons, levels and difficulties.
Up to malice difficulty you will be able to manage most threats and challenges more easy.
Heresy difficulty want you to have some decent experience with the game and a team knowing what to do and when and going from malice to heresy will maybe feel like going from sedition to malice. Not to speak about Damnation difficulty or intense conditions that spice it up very much.
Stick to lower difficulties while leveling your first character class for sure.
I recommend
Level 1-5 - Sedition
With the first Feat unlocked try Uprising.
Dont bother going into Malice before level 15, better level 20.
If you are really good you can try Heresy at level 25, but i’d guess for the first class and also depending on your class nd gear wait for beeing max level and have all feats.
Some classes are more easy to play and learn others have a higher skill ceiling and learning curve - Psyker mostly.
Also depending on weapons choice and quality of your gear.

good luck and have fun

Maps often have airlocks or elevators, which will only close if all players are in (with few exceptions when it bugs out).
So at least almost all of the time, you are safe from being locked in/out somewhere.

I think i know which map you were playing on.
On one map, there are a few large doors (something like 15m wide), which lead into a building with hangar like halls.
Opening the second door will close the first door and these doors do not require everyone to be inside, so you can lock players out there.
To my knowledge, the only way to get back to the team is either dying, or Alt+F4 and rejoin. So maybe the function of these doors should be changed.

Ah that sounds like Silo Cluster. Didn’t know people could get locked out like that, so good to know

It is possible that you had one bad team but i doubt it. Almost all players do pick each other up if they can. My guess is your team either dropped down where they cant get back from. Its annoying but thats why its my personal rule, third in line stays behind (third and fourth should drop almost simultaneously). Its not uncommon for players to lag behind anyway doing scripture, grim and material runs so if your looking for a slower game to learn the map maybe try one with the scripture addition, players often take their time on those a bit more.

Fun fact: these gates can kill monstrosities. That’s how I got this penance, cut a Nurgle’s beast clean in half.

Sounds like a bug. It happened to us once or twice, when a teammate got stuck behind a door. This isn’t intentional. Apart of that, use VOIP if you are stuck behind and try to stay together. On higher difficulties the game director is bound to spawn disablers fairly often, not a fun experience if you have other threats to manage at the same time.

Can confirm. This bug happened this past weekend, and has happened before.
