Since the last patch (1.10.5) my performance has been absolute garbage to the point where I don’t think I can keep playing anymore, random drops down into the 40fps range using a 9070XT+5800X3D installed on an SSD with 32GB of ram.
And the weird thing is it doesn’t matter what settings I use, everything on high, everything on low, FSR Native, FSR Performance, Frame Gen ON/OFF, it’s ALL THE SAME ~40–120fps
The only real difference I can feel is using FSR makes the game feel worse now, like more drops into the 60-50fps range randomly.
Just to note my drivers and up to date (Adrenaline 26.1.1)
I tried this out and it made my game look like a lo-fi ps1 indie title, but yes it does indeed allow me to keep my frames above 80 most of the time even in AURIC. So I guess when I was trying to run the game on LOW and saw no change from max settings I should have been using “ULTRA LOW“ this whole time. Wonderful.
It’s varied experience across Nvidia/AMD. Some of my friends notice the texture appearance result, some don’t. Some prefer potatoe max FPS esports mode and least visual clutter, some want a balance or max visual + RT even at cost of performance.
But with streaming asset or directstorage changes - Always backup those files elsewhere to allow easy to revert if required.
One glaring issue is I could be standing in the Mourningstar with other people just doing their thing and my frames are wavering from 40-100+, prior to following the guide that MeatShield posted, with seemingly nothing happening on screen, it’s cooked, messing with the config files helped, but my system should stay above 70-80fps in the main hub no matter what settings I use, there’s no excuse other than the engine is taxed to its limit.
If people are spawning in with assets that are not already loaded you’re going to get small hitches as new assets are loaded. The Mourningstar isn’t a static place to test in, the Psykhanium should be though.
Horrible. Game drops to 135 fps (on the steam FPS counter, so the 1% lows will be much lower), on a 9800x3D, geforce 5080 and 64 gb ram; with all settings on low/off and dlss balanced, on 3440x1440. Mods off. I do realize I’m not really in a position to complain and other systems are worse off, but I still gonna.
Used to run a lot better a few weeks back, I haven’t changed anything in my pc settings/drivers and other games/benchmarks run smooth still.
Alas the steam overlay doesn’t update fast enough to catch micro stutters.
This might sound insane but try playing with RTGI on. Without it I notice my monitor dropping VRR sometimes and shooting back up to 144 even when I set a frame cap to something low like 60. But if I play with RTGI on that doesn’t happen.
Granted I noticed that like 8 months ago so I’m not sure if it’s still the case
Thanks for the suggestion, but ray tracing gave me another issue where my FPS would suddenly drop to half mid-mission after playing 1-2 games. Was some time ago though, I’ll give it a whirl
That happens to be why I stopped using RT. I suspect a memory leak or something but another annoyance is I can’t have just RTGI on without RT reflections otherwise the game starts with RT off the next time I play.
Still it would be interesting to know if the baked lighting also breaks VRR for other people
Exactly my other problem as well. Can’t have 1 ray tracing option off or on low, without it affecting the other. Wish it worked but alas alas alas
VRR works for me without RT, but I’m trying to get used to it being off everywhere because I can’t stand the oled vrr flicker. I don’t think I can spot the difference in smoothness in a blind test, and I don’t notice any screen tearing at 312hz
