The TL;DR is we just got screwed over by Daemonhost that shouldn’t have aggro’d on the team.
The long:
So, I’ve just finished [read: wiped] a Damnation Match on HL-17-36, team was trekking through the train tunnels (not doing terribly well, honestly, but we’d a medkit available and it was a short journey to the next Medicae station.
A Daemonhost spawned left side of the railway past just the collapsed tunnel (the one to the immediate left of the drop off the entry to progress). We didn’t notice it due to the din of combat and the hectic disabler menagerie, but we didn’t AGGRO, but it was disturbed. Two of us (Psyker in the lead and myself running Zealot) divert into the railcar which is roughly 35-40m away from the DH location on the right side of the tunnels to avoid it, adds overwhelmed the first one in, I was following them and clearing the horde between us with my Crusher.
The Psyker was downed while I was wading through the chaff and no sooner did they drop did the Daemonhost apparate and start draining them; I was only about 10m away so I knew it was going to screw me so instead of bothering to hit it, I just left the car in the hopes that the rest of the team would be able to skirt by while it flayed me.
I’m noticing a few CLOSED topics on this subject, the most recent one with attached video being this.
Obviously, our situation seems a might bit more egregious than being just out of range; that’s still obnoxious, but c’mon we were 40m away with no line of sight and no possible way to damage the DH through walls of both game geometry and enemies.
I think you get one free hit / contact, but on the 2nd tick or occurrence it comes for someone. Not 100% sure on what determines that person. First, second, total aggro generated?
Flashlights also aggro.
Dunno your instance there. No chance it was a 2nd daemon host since you’d left the first?
First one was on the tunnels just prior, so… unless there were 3 or more, I don’t think so. It also didn’t have any audio cue that it’d been triggered.
I was quite literally watching what happened to the person ahead of me, they were mauled by… Maulers; I was swinging my Crusher to make a hole to them and as soon as the last Mauler hit and they popped up as downed on the UI, the DH was just there and draining like it’d been the thing to down them, but it wasn’t since there wasn’t any green light or presence of a Daemon until that exact moment.
I really wish I could record this stuff but my system’s already chugging with the inconsistent frame times and aggressively poor performance all-round happening since the last couple hotpatches so a choppy 30 FPS is about the best I can get during heavy horde and particle activity WITHOUT also taxing my GPU with capturing.
Well, a bit OT - but I’ve been trying out OBS along with nohboard. Principally to capture all the ghost-key presses I get. Probably post them soon as no one wants to sit through more than 10 of these things
Anyway, was going to say that yes it does reduce FPS a bit, but not noticeably so for me (2070 Super/ AMD 3700k @ QHD @ 60fps usually … so pretty old hardware but fairly stable). It’s freesoft, so you could give it a shot and see. Uses more CPU than GPU iirc.
Don’t forget that friendly fire from the Nurgle Team can also pull the Daemonhost.
A Scab Gunner that is parked next to the Daemonhost and hits her full-salvo will pull her in about 3 seconds.
We were far enough away (like I said the distance is probably about 35-40m away from the corner she was in) that we didn’t have any eyes on what was around her.
Could have been what did it. Seems punishing for the players if the horde itself can trigger a DH onto the squad. That seems like a crap system… It’d be fun to have the DH engage enemies (or whatever’s nearby that raised her ire).
