Playing around with Ogryn weapons, im amazed how bad the Latrine Shovel is. Light attacks on Dregs sometimes take 3 freaking hits? With 80% Damage? I went into the game with a grenadier gauntlet as ranged and kept using it for light melees because it at least throws enemies around. The only thing that works on the shovel is the overhead heavy. And the cleave is insanely bad. It should be a freaking Powersword in Ogryns hands against trash mobs.
1 shotting crushers feels pretty good to me
it’s more like every weapon that’s not a pickaxe feels abysmal
old ogryn weapons deserve complete reworks, because most don’t even have movesets
i hate how they went with the idea that “ogryn = clunky and horrendous to use weapons”
The Mk XIX is pretty good all around but the OG, it’s still good with the right blessings
that one is probably the worst lmao, because you are dropping skullcrusher or brutal momentum for confident strike (it was the designated lugger shovel i think ?)
mk5 is only usable because of horizontal heavies (but completely lacks a moveset) and the dumb overhead special
mk3 is the cool one but just feels bad
Ogryn is supposed to be built on charged heavy attacks, but lately, I’m having problems with the “charge” part. Sometimes when everything “loads up” (Thunderous, Talents etc.) it releases by itself and sometimes it gets stuck in charge animation.
Is it planned or what?!
Which is it? Auto release on full charge or release on M1 release?!
I think I’m getting paranoid, but something feels especially off today with Biggun.
Psykers on the other hand mop the floor with everything (today)… non announced event with 4thdimentionalwarpfukery?!
this is probably the worst thing about the class
terrible design choice to just make a class based only around heavy attacks
you also just have no keystones other than heavy hitter, which you guessed it, is about heavy attacking
i feel like the toughness on heavy attack talents could be merged, and replace one with a confident strike basically? idk, ogryn is a weird one to balance, and deserves a bit of a tree rework because you basically have like 1,5 builds
also completely remove and rework both lucky bullet and fnp because they are supremely uninteresting
I think the OP is referring to the standard (non-foldable) shovel and I’d tend to agree that it does feel somewhat underwhelming - although that’s purely due to it’s poor single-target combo.
The Mk. V and Mk. XIX are fine as you say.
Because unlike the Mk1 vs the other vet shovels there is no actual advantage to Mk3 brute. Mk1 has kicky fast attack speed to where I will probably pull more overall melee damage running it with no melee modifiers than I would running Mk3 or Mk7 full right side.
However the side effect of giving Unyielding crazy high stagger resistance to explosive stagger (ever wonder why these specials make enemies fly like grenades? There you go) is that bulwarks disregard it completely. Crushers too.
Is your problem boss! Just gonna wade in here and defend my boy da Mk3 Latrine Shovel…
Light + heavy is your horde DPS, mix in push attacks as desired.
If you’re not overwhelmed, line up a few chained heavies to charge Heavy Hitter (you are running Heavy Hitter, no?) and try to keep it up – the 10% attack speed bonus is very very good.
Insane stagger on all heavies, for what is a very fast weapon overall.
Great one-two combo heavies, starting with Mr. Smackdown – great for elites in the swarm.
Rager? Meet thunderpunch, go flying. Very good special for ragers, keep punching so they don’t kill you or team mates. Skullcrusher for bonus damage, if you like.
Against shooters, very easy to keep toughness up with chained heavies. With a bit of %Gunner Resistance on curios you can tank many gunners while you dance-of-death your way over to them.
Against Crushers and things, not so good, but keep hitting them and they will die. Only heavies, lights will not scratch them. Bleed helps here too, don’t forget!
Surprisingly good against Monstrosity too, I run %Flak + %Unyielding for perks and always get big big boss damage when I’m fighting it. Thunderous/Soften Them Up pretty good here too. Against Plague Ogryn and Chaos Spawn you can tank lots by chaining heavy attacks for toughness regen, so you don’t always have to be blocking.
Anyways, I love me pickaxe but Mk3 will always be #1 for this Ogryn. It’s just… everything
The OG shovel is one of my fav weapons, despite not that exciting moveset, which is sadly true for many ogryn weapons. It’s one of those weapons which requires specific blessings to work, try Brutal Momentum + Thrust or Skullcrusher (these days I run Thrust):
- Light 1 into Heavy 2 for horde clear at the the head height
- Heavy1 loop for chopping down elites / monsters etc
- Special is useful for stagger, sadly unlike cleaver special it doesn’t stagger Crushers (why Fatshark?)
- Push attack for extra bonk sounds
- I agree that light attacks by themselves feel like they were never fully thought out or tested
- Its weakness is the dependence on the BM, which invalidates existence of so many other blessings.
- I dislike how some weapons have been intentionally designed with terrible cleave damage, only for this to be overridden by a blessing which then ends up as a MUST HAVE
this blessing should’ve been removed already and just made innate to some weapons, but oh well that’s never happening probably
Heu… is it a joke?
Agree about BM a good choice.
But I am not sure that this weapon has not a little cleave even without BM. An achlys combat axe has none and make BM mandatory cause of this.
Here I would say that BM is mandatory for the +10% dmg and cause there’s not really something better to pick.
I totally agree about that.
what
i really hope youre trolling
of course not those are certified jackal fresh takes.
thats awesome
You need da Branx ole jakal me boy! It clears crowds just by lookin’ at 'em!
My fever dream is that Thrust becomes a built-in blessing
I remember mentioning on Discord that Ogryn feels weak and underwhelming to play, and I got some backlash for it. But your comment here captures exactly why I still feel that way.
In the lore, Ogryns are supposed to be powerful, near-indestructible brutes, and there’s actually an event that showcases just how formidable they can be. During the Battle for Macragge, as described in Warriors of Ultramar, four Ogryns aboard a Thunderhawk faced off against a Tyranid Hive Tyrant that had breached their vessel. Incredibly, they managed to beat the Tyrant to death in close combat, showing exactly the kind of raw power and resilience that makes Ogryns unique. But in the game, the Ogryn feels slow and clunky, with attacks that lack that same impact. His weapons, which should feel as devastating as his physical strength, don’t carry the same gravitas.
For a species evolved on a high-gravity world, it’s also strange how quickly he runs out of stamina. Playing Ogryn should make you feel like a beast, not just a big guy out of breath!
Edit: And don’t get me started on how the Ogryn can’t even block overheads from Maulers, who are just regular humans. That feels like a real missed opportunity to capture their brute strength and resilience.
insane lost tech of staged heavies from v2
The mk5 shovel is literally one of the best weapons for ogryn wtf u on.
The fact that you mentioned a light attack on ogryn tells me all i need to know…
