I was thinking of at least 2 ranged anti armor and at least 2 two handed weapons.
That way you can use a pure anti horde melee that struggles with armor like everyone’s favorite cleaver mk3 and use your gun for armored threats like maulers and crushers.
And ogryn needs at least 2 different big sticks to swing around.
Yeah, I was really sad about zealots getting all the fun stuff. . I’m still hoping it was a typo and they mixed up the patch notes and we’re actually getting the 2h.
I wouldn’t be surprised they are giving ogryns smaller weapons simply because they don’t want to enable the space marine powerfantasy… Since if ogryns got all the big goodie weapons, like heavy bolter, meltagun, lascannons, lightning claws, eviscerators and real thunder hammers(not the weak sauce version zealots get) no one would play the other classes. We would all go full space muhrine!
@Duncan1290
You sure that’s how toughness actually works now? Whenever I’ve tested stacking toughness I’ve never seen a difference when I take chip damage, it’s always below the new 100%, not the old base.
I would love if toughness actually worked like that, since then it would still be a point stacking it… I’ve just been stacking health instead, since toughness just seems to go poof most of the time it’s nice with some buffer before death with more health.
Absolutely sure. They fixed it in 1.0.13. I’ve tested it on all different classes and it consistently works the way I described. Toughness and toughness regen through class feats or curios is very effective to avoid health damage. I got the sharpshooter penance relating to taking no melee damage that way, just stacked curios until I had something like 290 toughness.
But also, we get the shovel which is really really good right now.
And the rumbler.
2 of the bestestest weapons.
I think some shield variations would be good for a less cumbersome but still providing some ranged protection stuff (maybe very weak melee protection to go with that) with a better damage weapon.
This is the reason they don’t give us 2h weapon for now.
Ogryn’s melee weapons have longer reach than the other classes 2h weapons (Zealots)
Ogryn’s melee weapons have -15 to -5, -12 to -8, or -20 to -10(shield) dodge distance.
Normally 2h weapons have heavy dodge penalty with long range.
So 2h weapon to Ogryns should have at least 1.5x range of his 1h weapon and -30 to -20 dodge distance under this condition. Which is just unplayable, mostly because of shooters.
But of course Developers can make Ogryn’s 2h weapon have short range. Ogryn grabs middle of shaft of his long weapon like you wield chopping axe in real life before chopping, but unlike real life Ogryn still grab middle of shaft while he’s swinging (so weird animation), or this 2h weapon has length of 1h weapon, and just heavy. But it would be a shame too, that Ogryn don’t use long weapon.
I think Ogryn already got 2 melee anti armor, they are just 1h, not 2h meanwhile. Latrine shovel, and Bully club for Anti-armor. For performance-wise you don’t need anymore weapon for anti-armor other than Bully club.
I’ll show you proof. Meet my dedicated Crusher killer. Even without 2 crits, you can kill Crusher with 4 overhead swing. (I tested this on Damnation difficulty)
Addition : But genarally, I don’t use this over Bull cleaver. Control, and killing horde-wise Club is too inferior to Bull Cleaver, damage-wise, attack speed-wise, and even animation of light attacks are not good to cleave, and control horde. Low finesse Club is really pain to use. 5~7.5% attack speed buff would make this weapon more competitive imo. This weapon has slower heavy attack speed without fast cancel like in video, even with it, you can’t swing it 1 per a sec with 70+% finesse. And long wind-up time to first light attack.
there’s something to note in the fact that a majority of weapons across the man sized classes are shared between the 3 of them, with each only having about 4 to 5 weapon types really unique to them that fit their playstyles specifically, meanwhile ogryn has an entirely unique arsenal custom built for the class where none of the weapons are really copies of the others. (and no i will not accept ogryn shovel is the same as sharpshooter shovel, they ARE different to me!)
So like personally i don’t really see it as the hugest deal while i will agree i’d like more ogryn weapons, i also don’t super mind the ones i already got
addition Ogryn weapons on a raw damage standpoint are far superior to man sized weapons, dealing damage on regular swings in the hundred range or more, with heavy swings being absolutely devastating on most of the weapons. This isn't even accounting for the ridiculous amount of cleave all of the ogryns weapons have, on top of reaching farther and having more AP on average, and that's just melee weapons. Sure all of ogryns ranged weapons barring maybe the rumbler are close range weapons, but that doesn't take from the fact that they have some of the statistically highest dps in the game, with the kickback having the highest single shot damage out of anything, only thing that can hit harder is a sharpshooter with a plasma gun. While ogryns arsenal is currently limiting it is anything but lacking. It is merely a matter of using them correctly.
on average a ripper gun shoots pellets that are hitting for a whopping 200/300/400 range depending on the variant with each single shell and you are pumping those out of 15 to 20 mag boxes into hordes and bosses, in medium to close range it can only really be matched by the twin linked stubber which does similar numbers over a longer course of time. The rumbler DPS wise is actually one of the lower of the bunch of weapons, however its explosive utility and almost equally applied AOE damage makes it invaluable.
I need to do the math again but i'd have to say highest dps weapon is either gonna go to the ripper gun or something the sharpshooter has, but i only started doing this math like an hour or two ago and due to the nature of equipment in this game its not as easy as it seems
Yeah, the Ogryn seems to have got the short end of the stick, barely has any weapons compared to other classes. There’s plenty of lore friendly options they could give him and maybe some less lore friendly ones for the sake of gameplay.
I’d like to see the Ogryn get an autocannon, a heavy bolter (probably make it a Gun Lugger exclusive if they add such a class), a 2 handed greatsword (like a supersized zweihander), 2 handed hammer, 2 handed chainaxe (like the ones maulers have, but Ogryn sized), some dual-wielded knives or an axe and knife combo, powerclaws, powerfists. There’s lots of weapons the Ogryn could be given.
So yeah, that’d be my list of new Ogryn weapons for now. The big mans weapon selection is very much lacking at the moment compared to other classes.
Boltgun is higes dps.
2nd Ripergun MK2 I think it was that have 480+ on shot & can have like 21-22 max ammo in clip at 80% ammo bar.
3rd : Stubber… 165 at that speed…
4th Columnus Mk5 Inf. autogun ; it has low base dmg of 69 but the burst go wrr… just test it in meat grinder & is competitive to braced agrippa on occasions when you nead fast reaction weapon. Sadly low ammo cap is it’s biggest downside.
…& that’s the way for sharpshooter to go
3x curio with ::: 16+4% toughness & 20%/15% toughness regen speed to top it & only if you go for grims I change one for wound+ to no die like a total dumbass from suicide bomber when the grims take to much of hp bar
I think there’s typo then, rumbler->ripper. I wondered how Rumbler can be close range weapon.
DPS-wise Ripper gun is awesome, but since it’s a shotgun, actually you use this weapon as horde killer, or Rager killer, most of time Ragers come with Crushers, or Bulwarks, some time they make cover for them. Unlike Bolter, you can’t kill Crusher with it too.
You can use this gun to shoot shooters, and shot gunners, and other specials. It works, but pellets spread, ammo-wise, it’s just painful.
The other gun Ogryn have except Heavy stubber, Dps-wise it’s painful. But they have other uses normally. Knock down usually.
Every Ogryn gun have same con that you can’t deal ranged mob efficiently. GG and Rumbler, of course, you can snipe shooters, one-shot. But how about shotgunners? or gunners? DPS-wise it’s just painful job compared to the other classes. And killing ranged first is the second most important thing in this game because of their superior damage. (first special) Ogryn got lack of option for dealing second most thing in this game. And actually he can’t do the first most important thing better than any other classes.
They have hard time range vs range, so
His melee weapons have advantages over hummies like you said. They are all versatile. Their sheer power is better than most of human weapon. They got great cleave in general. They got longer range than 2h weapons of Zealot, they got even armor penetration in general. they have +5% dodge distance compared to 2h weapons too!
But dps-wise, Ogryn weapon are not superior compared to specialized weapon of human for some armor type, it’s slightly better or slight worse, especially with blessing, Ogryn weapon other than Cleaver don’t have pure damage up blessing like head taker. With blessing some specialized weapon human got can have versatility like Ogryns’. (Something like Eviscerator with Cleave blessing to cleave more, Combat axe with weak-spot kill ignores hit-mass)
And because of their body size that make Ogryn have hard time to hide behind cover, I think some weapons need some minor buff.
You can shoot your Rumbler to cancel Reaper’s salvo with stagger. With luck or careful aiming with grenade explosion, you can knock down Reaper with Rumbler. (mostly, don’t shoot the guy, just ground infront of a target, you can knock down for sure, but damage-wise not recommended.)
With 4~5 shots, with aiming low abdomen of Reaper, you can kill him with Rumbler.
Kickback can knock down enemies reliably, but to dense horde with elites? Rumbler is the better one.
