Nobody communicates about team composition

When forming a group on auric+ I barely see people talking about dealing with various aspects of a mission beforehand.

Then we silently go into a game just to get our asses handed to us because nobody can effectively deal with specials, bosses, carapace w/e.

Of course it would be nice if you are capable of changing characters (not just build) in the pre-mission screen so you can personally fill the void of whatever the team comp lacks without having to learn sign language and communicating with a bunch of non-verbal spergs, but this is clearly a community failing and not the usual Swedish bumbling from Fatshark.

Feels like a large part of the player base is playing a single-player game and you are just an NPC tagging along…

How do you guys deal with this? Should I set up a macro to force the discussion beforehand and leave/kick vote if people do not participate in the conversation?

Is it? I’d argue that most people just hop in to the game without the obligation to interact with anybody - and it’s not like the difficulty warrants it, since you can get away with anything in Auric difficulty. The game’s never really been about the entire build-your-perfect-team-comp aspect, despite many classes having some of their skill trees or weapons built around that - there’s just no need for it outside of Havoc gamemode maybe, and even there you can get with anything, provided you are good enough to offset it with your experience or knowledge.

The game is complex enough where I imagine the devs didn’t want to tackle and try to wrangle multiplayer game constructs such as “roles” and what have you into the experience, because why would they, since the game is neither competitive (or PvP) nor is it extremely popular in the market? Party finder is one attempt at doing that, and even it is failing on many fronts when it comes to not having enough complexity where anyone can bother with it without the use of extra tools - like loadout inspection mods - since the game isn’t really prepared to tackle player-knowledge driven tasks through its UI.

This is a regression from Vermintide that’s largely caused by character restrictions no longer being here - why haven’t they enabled a hot-join character swap is beyond me, but I wish that was back in one way or another, where if you’re quick-playing into a game you can see briefly what everyone is using (class/ability/blitz/weapons) and a menu boots up where you have 60s to prepare a loadout for yourself.

And we do have that feature ironically, even if character swap isn’t a part of it, but, for some reason, it only works in any new lobby, and hot-joins don’t get to have 60s spare time to prepare a loadout for themselves.

The Vermintide games had all of this, there was no timer during preparation and you could freely do anything else you want such as changing characters, equipment or crafting. It’s a shame Darktide is made by a different studio so they didn’t have the knowledge & experience of these features beforehand.

Given what few tools are available, one way you’re able to deal with it is to have multiple builds set up beforehand and maybe change them accordingly to what you think the team needs. Or don’t, it’s up to you.

Wrong - this is a progress. Dt has no “roles” and everybody no matter the class can kill the specialists or monstrosities. I don’t have to take lame bardin just to enter the mission.

And you have to wait a loooong time bc random kid wants to run and jump around instead of entering the “portal”. No thank you. Again VT glazers go to VT forum…

H40 can be completed without any interaction in chat or voice chat. If you’re an experienced enough player, you know exactly what your character needs to do and when. And you also know what to expect from the other players. I log into this game to play, not to chat.

But not being able to switch characters on the mission screen is complete nonsense.
And honestly, having to spend half an hour switching characters is complete nonsense.

I too am happy to see you reply. But, let me be clear.

Is it really progress when you lose a simple solution (character preview before joining if your career/character is already in play), in favour of a more complex one that isn’t even integrated into the default experience of joining a random lobby on any of the available maps (party finder?).

And like, sure, queueing into lobbies with multiples of the same class is fun - I imagine that’s why they were designed to be generic and just enough spread out in terms of “role” fulfillment where anything goes, but to Darktide’s detriment, you can’t really optimise your experience at all beyond party finder or third-party mods, and that’s my concern.

Oh no, this is great and I like that there is no wait time in DT for that sort of thing. Massive QoL.

Are we Bardin shaming now? Please don’t tell me we’re Bardin shaming now… /j

ok i get your gripe but also like

literally every class is capable of anti-armor/boss killing/specialist sniping (usually all 3 of these can be done with one build) and if you genuinely have that much of an issue with it, you can just be the guy who fills the role your team doesn’t have.

if team doesn’t have support in their kits, i’ll run it. if team only has horde clear, i’ll fill anti-armor/boss/specialist.

Why do you get upset every time a comparison to Vermintide is drawn

dunno, but it’s funny

Because most of the time it’s done by complaining ppl, that glaze VT (that is worse than DT).

I get it if sb likes VT (i like Vermintide as well) - but this is DT forum and for 99% of the ppl here DT is simply better.

Because of how the game works you’re not able to. It would be nice if when you joined a game you were able to select a character based on the classes/specs of who you join, but you’re not able to. Team comp is basically something people only worry about for havoc.

No one does it because fat shark did everything in their power to remove that as an option.

“Any class can do everything!”
If we want build diversity then forcing generalist builds seems counterproductive?

“I’m a god, why should I care what other players do?”
I like to play this game as a coop team game, but you do you boo :dolphin: (just know that a mod for solo play exists)

“Why don’t you fill the gap and fix the team comp yourself?”
I do this already when possible, all I’m saying is that a little more communication and general awareness of team comp would go a long way to make this community a little less abrasive and diminish failure rates for some of the more difficult missions.

Guess I was wrong though, not being able to change character in the pre-mission screen seems to be another case of FS drooling all over their (hopefully IP65+) keyboards once again:grin:

PS who doesn’t love Vermintide?

It’s a fair to compare given they’re the same and were flat out missing some features that are in VT2, like improved bots >_<

simply leave the lobby if the other players don’t have what you think is needed or likely to be annoying, like smiters.

me?
bought vt2 the day i got my rig for darktide, with any major dlc´s as well.
but more out of gratitude for having a 40k game and support the dev at the time than anything else really.

killing rats gives me nowhere the same gore-boner and satisfaction from mutilating humanoid enemies and i for whatever reason cant get into medieval settings :man_shrugging:

as for the main topic

thats the state of the game right now right up until hav40 and the standard behavior for any multiplayer game that doesnt make others a necessary part of the action.

you may not like it, i for one hate the overpoweredness we are at right now, but waiting up or stepping down for johnny rando? why and who in the world would do that?

time and again people miss that “coop” doesnt equal “teamplay” but simply states others are with you on the map and run towards the same direction.
thats neither a “team” nor the will to sacrifice anything of yours towards a benefit of a total stranger, simple as.

auric maelstrom is already at a >95% win rate with current event a rat race with my lowest rando-time so far around the 12 minute mark.
losing an event mission happened one time to be exact being too eager to beat that time :man_shrugging:

question: why would i allow a psyker, scum or skitarii to hog the killfeed for himself while playing “polite” as the dumbass?
first few seconds of a match you got 3 options:
dudes way out of their league and not able to get through by their own
dudes having a non-meta loadout and playing proficiently so all get through in a good time
dudes rocking the 1337h4x0r youtube build some shovel-seller put out as the latest hot :poop:
and suddenly its mario kart with ideal lines, no stopping for no one and quite the race to get your fill before the all too soon end.

the devs or the players fault noone needs nothing to see the match through and no official solo mode in the game with progress and leveling up ?

yep theres the mod and thank the emprah its there, but deliberately playing “slow” as to “cooperate” when since the dawn of bnc lan or serial cable doom coop did that happen in human history ?

if you want people to cooperate you need to create situations where others are useful and not audience on the same theater stage

wont happen either way, personally i abhor the voices of strangers in my pass time activity, if a ping or ingame callout doesnt get the dude to realize theres a host around the corner, i wont bear the squeaking voice or dorito munching or mum calling for dinner for one single second :raised_fist:
the professional voice actor is the character, the player behind his keyboard simply replaces the movements of a bot :man_shrugging:
if the ogryn next to me suddenly gets the high pitch voice of a teenager im out.

besides, the spice of the game isnt making it through a match because of a “right team” but DESPITE others doing stupid, hilarious or otherwise ludicrous :poop: you need to watch thrice to believe :joy:

winning with a premade or optimal composition isnt a big achievement after all.

Doesn’t really matter in auric people just leave when they die and Re-Q. I rarely play Auric (havoc 40 player) but sometimes I’ll try an event and it’s always the same. I usually see people spam ranged attacks, run out of ammo, die, leave.

I think it’s mostly because people spend so long looking for players, that they just want to play.

On VT2, I would just start the match and solo until someone joined or I wiped, and then start again.

On DT, you’re AFK looking at join requests for 10-20 minutes, depending on the time.

I don’t and never. Id suggest to leave before trying to kick others.

Vote to kick should be for the blatantly obvious and AFK. Even with an AFK Id wait a few minutes and ask others to wait for AFK to come back.

Let players play what they want, policing the lobby is never worth it.

Just know your class and its capabilities. You can greatly influence the flow of games by kiting enemies you have trouble dealing with.

In short, just stay alive and keep fighting.

oh my GOD!!! people comparing games in the same series to each other!!! How horrible!!!

i don’t know why or how someone gets such visceral response to something so banal and fair such as a game having an obviously flaw or downgrade such as lacking features its predecessors have. he’s like a sleeper agent waiting to be awoken the moment talks about the rat game with the twitch moe

again, it’s literally not “glazing” to either sides to see and recognize a missed opportunity to establish an objectively better feature that was downgraded from its predecessor.

this guy literally thinks people hoping darktide having a better mission select like vermintide’s is “pink glass nostalgia glasses” thinking. dude was never fair to begin.
next he’ll say bots being able to hold their own is impossible or something
