Try moving up to Damnation and especially Auric - there will be more enemies, which means more targets for you to activate pickpocket on. Take a combat knife, shivs or a tactical axe and just kill the closest elite or special with ease.
Your main issue is that Heresy is just too easy for you and doesn’t have enough enemies around, so the level 30 classes end up decimating everyone way too fast.
my issue isn’t the difficulty, my issue is that now i have to change my playstyle to accomodate the changes, by having to use a different weapon, as you said knife axe etc.
when before i could just keep using my shotgun and shooting the enemies in front of me without a care in the world.
i can literally just pickup zealot with the knife and turn on an autoclicker to go from the start of the mission to the end without even considering the existence of my ranged weapon, but i can’t do the same with the hive scum and my ranged weapon, why ?.
how would one deduce that info from you referring to said highest setting?
even worse, who needs any outliers on heresy of all things?
auric maelstrom is the last line one can play “whatever” if the mechanical skill is on point.
havoc forces artificial turtle mode through number shenanigans that have nothing to do with actual player skill on a personal scale.
so correcting certain mistakes that only find their “use” in that bubble and forcing people to play the game for once instead of hiding behind talents is a good start.
and if certain wannabe 1337 haxors quit the game in the process, all the better in my book.
No? The game directly punishes you for not using ranged attacks by having enemies that intentionally distances themselves from you. They’re called Specials- Trappers, Specials and Bombers literally running away if you try to match them. Zealot’s primary weakness is his inability to do decent damage from ranged- meaning if he finds a gunner’s nest that he cant find an easy way to dive- he will take unnecessary damage.
a boatload of ammo, you get like 10 bullets, that then you need to spend to kill the next specials, if you need to keep switching to melee every 10 seconds , just play a melee focused class
why does the “hybrid” playstyle of the game only matter if you only want to use ranged weapons, but if you only want to use melee you’re fine ?
On point.
You can complete maps with melee builds with minimal use of ranged weapons. As for Zealot? I can complete auric games just using melee + knives. Melee builds also have higher survavibility on the average.
At the same time many ranged builds become useless if you don’t have enough ammo for them. Some ranged builds can also be way harder to play than many commonplace melee setups.
It’s unfair how people on the forums view the difference between melee and ranged.
Well, because ranged weapons are superior to melee weapons since they can kill the threat before it gets close to you. Just like IRL. Why bother brawling with a guy in melee if you can shoot him in the face from 10 meters? That’s why ranged weapons have an ammo limit, bigger ones even have longer pull-out times, and you usually need to be more precise with your aiming because they are stronger.
Also, Darktide is still more of a melee fighting game than a proper shooter, just like DRG is predominantly a shooting game rather than a melee one. The melee in DT is just a little more engaging and advanced.
Also, in all honesty, if you just play on Heresy with a shotty desperado build, you can really bring anything as your melee weapon - anything short of a Devil’s Claw, but even that thing would do the job, I believe. Killing an elite on Heresy as a Hive Scum is easy.
It’s not a big deal, you should just try it. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with killing an elite or special here or there with melee. It’s the same for Zealot: I am pretty sure you still need to kill specials too, and you usually do it with a ranged option instead of sneaking up to the Trapper and trying to murder her up close, so she can net you. You can, but that’s because Heresy is too easy and it doesn’t put you in situations where there is no way for you to kill the special or gunner with melee because you have other stuff to do.
It’s a lie a buddy i play with tells himself despite doing a shiiiiit ton of more damage with his melee build than me playing ranged. But apparently “he has no chance to compete with ranged”.
Because 3/4 of the enemies in this game are made to get in your face to do damage and having classes that both respond kindly of doing damage requires them to risk taking damage that ranged classes have the luxury of not being in a position to be hurt in the first place. Having limited ammo is to balance ranged careers to actually be put in a spot where they eventually have to be up close and eventually take damage. That’s why Hive Scum’s pickpocket is incredibly disastrous to this game’s balance because the scum can always just simply never be in a position to be hit in the first place.
Zealots have to risk getting hit to do damage- A veteran can be hiding behind the zealot doing significant or even more damage without the risk of getting hit. Zealots have to dodge crusher overheads that can one-shot or even killed them if they make a mistake- Veterans just simply throw their krak grenades and not have to fight them at all. Being able to hit from ranged is a superior position in most cases- that’s why there’s many caveats to make it less powerful.
Yeah, that’s ranged. Knives and firegrenades requiring resources to be used carefully or regained by playing a little differently- if you run out of knives and firegrenades your ability is kampoof.
Balancing discussions are centered around people whom play on Auric and Havoc- since that’s the difficulties in which differences in tools begin to actually matter- and frankly what the tools that we’re talking about are designed around.
and what’s your point, of course one will be easier than another, that’s why there is build variety, and if something it’s easier and you don’t like it you can exercise your free will and not use it, nerfing things in a COOP game benefits no one, it makes the game harder for people using that playstyle and the only people that are happier are the ones complaining that a class is stronger than their favorite one
Personally, I was just really enjoying the class fantasy of being a pure FPS class on this one particular build of Scum. It was like a genre switch on the game; you approach situations differently. Hell, I thought about advocating for the ability to give the class two ranged weapons, no melee. XD
But they normalized it instead. To just a small extent, but it’s still made me sad. Playing DT as an FPS is playing the mostfun FPS I’ve played in modern times. XD
I am talking from the standpoint that you don’t need to go up to the enemy, engage with their moveset, and put yourself in danger. With ranged weapons that can also stagger stuff (especially something like the shotty or uzi) you can kill the enemy from afar, fast enough and safe. Especially on something like Heresy.
That’s it. Obviously, in real game situations, I have no doubt that some guy in melee can deal more damage than you with a ranged build. But here is a good example: the Psyker. The Psyker deals copious amounts of damage utilizing essentially a gun (their flame stuff). It is a ranged build, it deals a lot of damage, and it is safer than going in with the Psyker and dropping a greatsword on the enemies’ heads.
Sure, I could personally not use it- but there’s nothing stopping someone else from using it in a public match that I’m to use it at the detriment of other people’s enjoyment. Just because I’m not at the receiving end of a weapon doesn’t mean I suddenly loose any right complain because the existence of that tool in a shared playspace affects everyone involved.
Imagine you queue into a mission with someone with a “Just win the game” and the moment you enter the game- you instantly just get sent back to the morningstar but with your rewards as if you won the game. By all metrics- I have no right to complain about that since- well- This is COOP game!!
