NEW BOSS FOUND - Daemonhost

Its shitty design, needs to go or be redesign, period.

This talk of demons is pure heresy. If demons were real, we would have been warned. Clearly, this can only be some new Xenos filth.

Witch from L4D is a terrible comparison, any seasoned player with a shotgun in the group is liable to cracking her in one shot for some laughs, she can be stumbled when activated and has barely more HP than the most durable special (some 1000 HP to a Charger’s 600) making her pretty susceptible to being burst down anyway. If it wasn’t for VS she would be a minor speedbump somewhere around ambient common infected threat.

Not like this big bad mother hubbard who can’t be tanked and will siphon off 2 souls minimum if you make the mistake of engaging it. Its also a huge DPS check on whether or not you’re playing meta, which is disappointing. A good group should be able to draw it out and evade it better, but instead it eats your stamina bar whole while you can do nothing but hold M2 and dodge. Bad design.

You are aware that the DH is aggro-locked to whoever “woke” it… so if your Ogryn does that, he can easily tank it.

you are aware that not all groups has an Ogryn, right? So if a boss need a specific group configuration for you to have any decent shot at it, its bad design.

It doesn’t. The Demonhost can also be dodge-tanked by a sufficiently skilled player since it’s flailing attacks are nicely telegraphed - as are its teleports.

TL;DR: the Demonhost is a skillcheck.

Think you completely missed the point people are making. But sure, stick with that, you are right.

Okay, let’s look at the points:

  • It’s too tanky / can’t be stunned.
    • Well, it’s a DEMONHOST. It’s a POWERFUL ENTITY OF THE WARP bound to a host in the physical realm by a powerful ritual. It’s supposed to be scary and superhuman.
    • It’s optional. You don’t “have to” kill it. You can avoid it if your group is ill-prepared to face it.
  • It’s mechanics are unfair / it’s “execution move” is uninterruptable.
    • It’s mechanics are telegraphed. Easy to dodge / block.
    • It’s so easy to dodge/kill that there’s videos of Preachers (almost) SOLOING it (link).
    • During it’s execution move it is immobile, making it EVEN EASIER to shoot or smash it.
  • It’s shitty design
    • That’s subjective/vague.
    • The L2D Witch is shitty design as well then?

Sidenote:
What I love so much about the Demonhost is that’s it’s controversial.

From a Player-perspective you’re supposed to avoid it because it’s powerful and scary. But from an ingame perspective, you’re meant to banish it because it’s a demon: it’s the enemy of the Imperium. Sacrificing one or 4 imperial soldiers to undo a warp-entity, totally reasonable course of action.

And if that controversy isn’t what 40k is all about - we from our perspective looking at 40k and thinking “I wouldn’t do that at all”… but from the Lore-Perspective we can explain why they do what they do and it totally makes sense in-universe.

Lorewise daemon hosts can’t really be killed. If you go all out you might kill the host and it ends up in another host or back in the warp.

Eisenhorn had a ton of trouble with a couple of these, the one which was more memorable was Cherubael.

Killed like 4 oif these but only for penances for the others 3 on malice & one on Heresy :stuck_out_tongue: the thing is you nead ogryn [he got lots of stamina] & preferably slab shield :stuck_out_tongue: but the best option is having good place to run & jusmp & let him chase you & not being hit to much xD & others just nead to kill it…
still yeah not worth fighting… the ammo ,hp & curse from it stacks really fast :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit : so far didn’t get “sucked up” by him :stuck_out_tongue: dunno what is the trigger… dmayby dying & then he suck you up :stuck_out_tongue:

Lore is irrelevant to the gameplay perspective because it was added to the game to be engaged by the players. It currently suffocates any counter play to the victim just from the aggro of this boss. Even your evidence video shows the poster simply losing all his health, taking tons of curse damage, proccing zealot passive to survive just a bit longer but still going down before his teammates burst it down since he did like 10% himself. I would actually say this video only really points out how meta-locking this boss is, since he would have died attempting to tank with any other Zealot weapon because of their slower stamina regen (that also will keep you from dodging in guard break). Not sure how that constitutes a solo lol. You won’t ever see one of this boss because even if you had stamina and BCR out the wazoo you still don’t get to throw an attack out.

I agree, there are good players. F the rest.

The game is made for what % of players that got the achievemtn of downning it ? 0.5% ? Game is made for 0.5% that can deal with demonhost since it shows up on all dificulties ?

  • You could hear a witch long before you got to it. I just stumbled into a DH that no one on the team saw, seemed to drop in like trash mobs sometimes do.
  • You could execute a witch before it hit a player if done right. For most teams, killing the DH takes full team firepower and even then its iffy. Unless you get lucky and a shield Ogryn aggros it.
  • You could always bypass the witch. In some places where she might block the path, she’d wander around some. DH can block the path, no choice but to engage.

The L4D Witch was a well thought out mechanic that actually worked. The DH is just a DPS check, and one that many, perhaps most teams can’t pass.

You can easily spot it long before you “stumble” upon it. There is a characteristic fog, you can hear whispers ang the closer you get the frost effect sets in on your visor. Pretty easy to avoid rly. I played it 4 times today, beat it every time, only one time it killed the first target. Whoever startles it, needs to dodge and block to survive as long as possible, rest just do as much dmg as they can.

Well, apparantly this is not always true. Perhaps is was a bug that one just dropped in though. Never heard the audio cue you’re talking about either.

Sorry to hear that, but trust me when you encounter it couple of times, you’ll learn how to deal with it, either avoid or destroy. In case you want to check the the tell-signs: DAEMONHOSTS ARE HERE! HOLY EMPEROR! 40K Darktide Update! - YouTube

Well thats good cos I bought this game to avoid fighting things.

Glad they’re putting in some pacifist gameplay.

Oh, yeah, the audio cue is softer than combat noises and only trigger quite close, but at least I know what it is.

Some Demonhosts seem to spawn as a result of triggering certain events.

In the 1st Assassination Mission (where you go through the Sewers), the Demonhost spawns in the lower level once you start the Ascender-Event. So if your team isn’t together in the upper level when starting that event, you might inadvertedly trigger the DH.

Would like to complain about that. I have gone around a corner chasing a trapper swinging a two handed chainsword and suddenly gone ‘Great Emperor! Daemon host!’

No detectable ques prior to it rising up and tossing me in the gutter.

Other times I do hear it, but usually not over a chainsword.

I’m betting the fog and audio have some kind of glitch where they aren’t actually there 100% of the time.

Also, would be nice if the important audio events would be subtitled for the hearing impaired and people playing in loud rooms or without headsets.
