Never put Ranalds in the CW weekly ever again

Ranalds is the EXACT opposite of fun gameplay in CW. The problems are numerous:

  1. It is 100% RNG and ZERO percent skill as to whether or not you can finish a map. Sometimes the map is nothing but exposed cliff edges and bridges with no raillings. Sometimes the explosion just threads the needle and sends you out of a tiny window and off the map. There is literally nothing you can do about this if the map is entirely ledges.
  2. The only hard counter to ranalds ending the mission instantly is to play with four other humans, and only for the reason that ranalds cannot instantly kill more than two players in the party through RNG.
  3. No one is playing the weekly because it sucks so much. Without human players surviving RNG instakills in solo play is impossible. Bots make the mutator even worse because they DO NOT avoid the player when exploding and instead stick to your ankles like a bunch of starving puppies with leprosy.

Like, look at this.

The shadow gate at the end of the map is on an exposed ledge. I stand in the shadow gate as far from the ledge as possible because that is the only possible way I can finish the map. The explosion sends me out of the shadow gate, past the ledge that I can’t grab, outside of the map and onto a tiny ledge.

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DEAL WITH THIS??? ********ing HOW?

This is NOT gameplay.

This is what I call maliciously incompetent game design, it’s not just making something shĂt, it’s making it shĂt on purpose just for the singular purpose of torturing the playerbase. I guess the responsible party somehow deluded themselves into beliving that this is a “challenge”. I suppose it is, in the same sense that trying to circumscise oneself with a cheese grater is. And that is exactly the level of pleasure I wish upon whoever is making these decisions. There is no excuse for the CW weekly repeatedly being a compilation of the worst, mind-numbingly cαncerous curses. A combination of Unstable Breed, Belakor skulls, Curse of Comradeship, Khaine’s Fury “”““boon””“”, every single fking week, and now this as well. Can’t wait for next week to be Sparkling Gift and also Special Delivery, so if whoever carries the statue gets Randald-ed, the entire party wipes. Or do Sparkling gift and Curse of Comradeship, yeah, that would probably result in a couple hundred people uninstalling the game, me included, at this point no atrocity would surprise me, really. The Chaos Wastes weekly, which COULD have been a fun challenge, a novelty, instead became a drag that we suffer through time after time again to get the skin and other rewards, which, I’ll admit, are good. Maybe let go of the stupid shĂt curses that everyone hates since they were added with the normal weeklies years ago, because they are poorly thought out, extremely annoying, outright destroy the normal flow of the game, or are just blatantly unfair, or all at the same time. Maybe think of something new?!

I think it’s been the most unpopular weekly event in campaign mode for a long time, yet it’s never been changed. The idea to make weave skins port over to campaign mode was thrown out there years ago, and with many creative ways in which players could earn them. It’s only this year they’ve added them and allowed variants of them to be granted through the Chaos Wastes.

They made the bots immune to being part of the curse in which straying from the team causes damage (already a pretty frustrating and annoying curse due to the low distance, rapid health loss). Some have suggested it be ‘curse’ instead of health loss. I did that CW weekly with just bots.

If the bomb didn’t toss players and didn’t effect bots, then it would be fine. If exploding and risking hurting each other isn’t challenging enough, make it do more damage to the team and increase the explosion radious instead.

I suppose just keep griping about it and offer some suggestions. Eventually they’ll change it.

Besides the explosion throwing people all over the place and basically being an RNG-driven instant loss event anywhere near ledges, the windup to it also slows down the players to a crawl AND is blinding AND it is loud as hell masking sound cues. The entire design of it is just pants on head rtarded and should be thrown out completely.

I agree, don’t mind it in campaign, but CW weekly is too long and because of the level design with all the ledges it just does not mesh well.

  1. I don’t entirely agree, while luck is a factor (for example which way you get blown), it’s still not the deciding factor, if you’re not guarding a ranged character that’s trying to eliminate bomb rats as they run at you, then your group is going to have problems. While I had some runs (and rage quits by the host) mere minutes into the challenge, I got it completed by the 5th try.

  2. When I tried a solo private run, I got all the way to the pre-Citedel fight before Saltz-bot yeeted me into oblivion, while hard to solo with bots, it isn’t impossible, at least two friends completed it with just bots.

  3. Erm
I am, haven’t missed a single one yet, some I enjoy, others I grind with mates, even the nasty ones aren’t too bad so long as you remember it’s just a game and not worth losing your cool over.

Yeah exactly, the whole point of this game is to have fun. If you want to increase the challenge that’s totally fine. But increasing the difficulty of the game implies that the player can overcome the difficulty in some fashion be it simple player skill or intelligent tactics.

Ranalds isn’t a challenge, it’s just pure RNG in the worst form, you have a % chance of instantly failling the map and there is literally nothing you can do. The only way to mitigate this mutator is to play in a group of human players without bots and ONLY in the sense that RNG can’t simultaneously kill the entire party at the same time. It’s bs no matter how you slice it.

On Veteran, I presume? If higher, please do tell how you managed to make it so far without explosion friendly fire damage dooming you all. Bots try to hug you by default which results in either you killing them, or them killing you, or (usually) both :joy:

Yep, just wanted to get it finished quickly, but wasn’t to be.

Bots managed to get themselves killed 95% of the time, see bomb rats, charge bomb rats

SaltzBot “I’M IN TROUBLE HERE!”
Me “Sweet! Endless bombs potion, be a shame to waste it
”

I completed it on Legend, just went with cheesey OE build (bomb maker and rapid fire ULT on minigun so I could wipe them out the second they appeared).
