My opinion on Hive Scum

Hive Scum, is a non-sense class.

A super-hero. With his superpowers.

The class doesn’t fit on Darktide style.

It didn’t get “darker”, it just got… weird.

In resume Hive Scum is this:

Yeah i agree it doesn’t really make sense how they fit into the inquisition considering they’re criminals and not fond of imperium authority like arbitrators or inquisitors lol. And the class feels like you need to be spamming and being a total sweat to stay alive or be useful in the squad. And the chem packs they drop cloud your vison bad in low light or pox missions all the green from their chems while trying to fight out of a pox cloud is not fun. I mean we have the rejects and the only cool official imperium figure we got was the arbites. It would have been a refresher and made more sense to have gotten a scion or a skitarii solder instead of.. this loud and goofy hive scum class.

I need some clarification of what this means? This is an extremely vague way to assert your intended point.

I think it does. They have a unique flair and are fun to play while still being a believable aspect of the setting. To call them “out of place” seems extreme.

That’s not true. One can be Emperor-fearing AND resort to criminal activity in order to survive the grim reality that is life in a Hive City. Plus, the Inquisition are DESPERATE for manpower since the Stolen Rations fiasco where the rations were all tainted, causing a significant number of Rejects to defect to the Moebian 6th and the Cult of Admonition, both willingly and unwillingly.

The Hive Scum are ALREADY IN TERTIUM, are extremely well-armed, and ready to take the fight to the Heretics because Tertium is their HOME. The Inquisition needs manpower, and the Hive Scum are a convenient ally who are already on-site and willing to cooperate. This kind of thing happens ALL THE TIME.

Because Emperor forbid the crackhead Archetype actually encourages erratic gameplay, am I right? :winking_face_with_tongue:

Scions are literally just… stronger Veterans, like, unironically. Heck, it’s even implied the Cadian Veteran Personality USED TO BE A KASRKIN. Kasrkin are basically Cadia’s version of Scions.

Skitarii are doable, although I think if there’s only ever going to be one Admech Archetype, it’ll be a Tech-Adept. A low-ranking Tech-Priest, basically.

And that’s most definitely a possibility and would suit the setting just fine. There’s even been a third DLC Archetype’s code name datamined quite recently.

Arbitrator was datamined as the “Adamant.”
Hive Scum was datamined as the “Broker.”
The third DLC Archetype was datamined as the “Cryptic.”

Cryptic could refer to a few things, but direct synonyms for “cryptic” have been used to describe specific kinds of Tech-Priests in lore, such as Enginseers.

How’s this a bad thing? It’s a DLC class clearly aimed at experienced players, with the main “intention” being high damage low survibability

Not every class needs to be as braindead as Arbites is

The Inquisition is known to recruit hive gangers when needed. The Arbitrators were called in because the “normal rejects” weren’t enough to handle the situation.
The hive scum were already here, they are “trained” by the harsh environment and conditions they had to live in, and they hate the cultist just as much, so they actually even have a reason to cooperate. The other is the fear of being executed for being “non compliant”.

We must play a different game.
In mine, Scum have no difficulty to stay alive, but sure… they can fall sometime as they are glass canon.
But, I really don’t have the feeling that, as Scum, you have to “fight” just to survive.

Sure, It is way less secure than an Arbites, a Zealot or an Ogryn. But you kill fast, and in Darktide sometimes it is the best defense.

You mean there is no space marine?
It fits really well Darktide. And the class is really awesome.

the Hive Gangers have as much reason to fight for tertium as the rest of the cast. Tertium is their home and the cartels most certainly aren’t taking kindly to chaos taking it over both for business reasons and for survival reasons.

Hive Scum gameplay fits DT just fine, I don’t really see what the issue is with their gameplay loop. There’s balancing issues but that’s true of pretty much every class. Hive Gangers are a classic part of 40k lore and we’ve got a lot of in-game lore that sets a precedent for their presence too (water cartel in the torrent, the entire carnival district existing)

well then either start sweating or pick another class :man_shrugging:

wannabes got arbites so I think it’s only fair some scum empties a room before plasma and dueling-gimp gets a whack in if he actually plays better for a change instead of using some “talents”

yep, all is well if people can play-pretend they got what it takes when the job gets done by bubble, wololo or 2 imba weapons.

but a class showing physical skill and the “better player”?

nooooo, these damn sweats… play the game… better… more….

Honestly if anything this is the biggest plot hole in DT to me. Despite players consistently kicking huge amounts of ass every mission, we are somehow losing the war.

Naturally, the cops and gangers showing up is also a good time to add even more political shenanigans to the plot. Both sides of the conflict are infighting without a full-scale civil war already, with no less than four factions on the Imperial side with conflicting interests only cooperating because of the same end goal, and Wolfer and the Cult being salty with each other.

I mean, in fairness, the gameplay power fantasy of Darktide isn’t exactly accurate to lore! :joy:

I do find it quite strange that the Arbitrators’ introduction cutscene paints the Inquisition as being so incompetent, though. Since that was prior to said Stolen Rations fiasco and in fact took place not long after we embarrassed Captain Wolfer in front of his Nurgle Cultist GF, I think it would’ve been more apt to lead with something more along the lines of “with recent Inquisitorial victories, the situation has stabilised enough for the Adeptus Arbites to resume collection of Atoma’s tithe whilst lending aid to the Inquisition where they can.”

But alas.

No. You imagined that, based on nothing.

That was joke

I really feel that they fit really well in Warhammer 40k. Necromunda is well known now.

psyker burns entire screen of enemies, oneshots a crusher, does half a boss’s health bar in a couple swings

Ogryn smacks boss into corner and stunlocks it, tanks entire groups of gunners to the face, entire horde is standing around locked onto him doing nothing

zealot can’t die, oneshots every boss, burns entire screen of enemies, infinite throwing knives, will run around in a circle to get his ability back to make a guaranteed revive.

arbites can’t take damage, exploding dog stunlocking bosses and spinning chaos spawns, stunlocks entire horde in a single doorway with regenerating mines

Vet gives entire team yellow juice that prevents taking damage from anything while up, murders everything in mere seconds, has infinite grenades that either delete armor, delete everything, or turn off guns.

Hive scum is a truly cartoonish and weird class that relies on spam to make it through the highest difficulties. It really doesn’t fit the vibe of the often times serious and challenging gameplay of darktide, where every class has to make harsh decisions on resource management.

It is “cartoonish” or an easy class? (or may I have missed totally what you said, may be possible also)
Tbh, I feel that I have to pay a lot more attention to what I do when playing this class than playing:

  • a zealot… I took a crusher hammer… not even wounded! :winking_face_with_tongue: Thank you Holy Revenant
  • a veteran… let’s spam the golden toughness
  • arbitres… well they regen easily on toughness
  • ogryn… Do I have to say something?
  • psykers… we all know how it works, the skilled psykers work at 90% peril and annihilate anything and so get full toughness regen

With Scum, at least I have to pay attention to what I do.

Considering this:

I think he was being sarcastic.

So I had not got the message

The talents of each class, has some “logic”. The Veteran becoming invisible is a nonsense… but we can say that he is… “stealthy”.

Now, in the case of the Hive Scum, some talents (like “Desperado”) don’t have any sense. You can’t use your imagination to make up some excuse, to say that those talents have some sense.

I wanted to Arbites. Even before Arbites class, I made my own Arbites.

But when I played it… well I felt more like a Robocop, than an Arbites.

And I complained.

With Hive Scum, I don’t feel like a Terminator, I feel like Superman (or Flash, depending on the talent tree).

Each class has it’s own style… except Hive Scum, which is Medic, mob killer, monster killer, anything you want. Is more weak? Don’t worry, just stim yourself with some thoughness, or make yourself invulnerable for some time.

Veteran, Psyker, Zealot and Ogryn, are great for Darktide atmosphere.

Feels like if now rejects and their bosses have more pressure, because of the Adeptus Arbites.

But Hive Scum? Now it is just a party… is not more darker… is just a circus.

Basically Hive Scum are clowns going around.

At least to me, it doesn’t feel like a war for Terium anymore…

Just a Circus.

I am not talking about WH40K universe, I am talking about Darktide. Which focuses on a part of WH40K universe.

Again you are imagining words I never say.

Also, Darktide is part of warhammer 40K?
Scums are gang members like in Necromunda. So they fit very well in Darktide. Tbh, I would say that this is veterans (Astra Militarum - I don’t expect them to end as inquisition canon food… but I can be wrong) that don’t fit well in an inquisition warband.

And until now, you have just given an opinion. That’s fair, however it doesn’t even say why you think that they don’t fit well in Darktide.
I know you will say “clown”. And I say “Necromunda” games.

You read something, but your brain interpretes it as you want.

Answering to you is losing time.

Au revoir.
