I honestly miss the days where a Lasgun was a good weapon in the hands of a Veteran.
It still is, just not in Havoc, enemy waves are simply too large and too full of carapace elites. Which is thematically correct I would say, Basic guardsmen alone with their laser peashooters aren’t expected to stop xenos.
The Infantry Lasgun isn’t a good weapon anymore. I play mostly Auric and it’s completely useless there.
With strongest weapons, it doesn’t demand much skills, you just bonk or stab everything in front of you, barely aiming. Only weapons that demand some skill to use, are the ones with relatively(to other weapons in game) sophisticated attack patterns, like relic blade mk with vertical swings, crusher, arbites shields, tigrus mk3 eviscerator, while most other weapons, including strongest and ultra meta like dueling sword, arbites shock maul, karsolas pickaxe, bully club mk3, completely brain dead which you can spam with either light or heavy attacks.
Are you referring to the “Secrets of the Machine God” Update? I’ve been BEGGING them to bring those Shooter buffs back for a whole year at this point. Wow, just wow. At least Fatshark kind of made up for it with the “Grim Protocols” Update Enemy buffs, but it still isn’t enough. Fatshark NEEDS to start acting on the “we promise to Balance Darktide” talk that they’ve been giving us since December of last year, and FAST.
True, some weapons require more skills than others that’s why I put skill word in brackets in my previous post. Still fighting in melee undeniably put you in more danger compared to gun fighting.
I wouldn’t say USELESS, but they do underperform. It feels absolutely miserable to use Infantry Lasguns while being Suppressed, and their excessive Recoil compounds this. The Mark IX/MG XII has significantly lower DPS than the other two Marks. They could use some more Blessings to spice them up a little bit, like Dumdum and Hot-Shot.
Needing to spam LMB to keep firing them is causing repetitive strain injuries and carpal tunnels while absolutely destroying the Player’s mouse. Please just let us hold down LMB to fire them continuously. This wouldn’t even be a buff, just a QoL change.
yes. very much agree with this; that was one of the best parts of the game and really split the people who paid attention from the w-key gumbys.
Now the W-key Gumbys just play Arbitrator and the game is a snooze; you can phone it in even on Damnation. Melee in this game is not really that difficult, and certainly requires less target prioritisation choice when compared to guns specifically.
The awkward issue here is the first thing they call Darktide on the Steam, Xbox, and PS5 pages is an “Action Shooter” (Xbox’s page tags it specifically as a Shooter game) and the Hybrid Combat bit you can only find if you expand the description/about section and scroll halfway down the page, otherwise you’ll never see it, especially on the Xbox and PS5 sites where there’s no graphics or visual callout just a big block of text.
Seriously. If they don’t want it in the base game, fine. Give us a modifier called “Crackshot” that shows up in Auric only and/or infrequently in lower diffs.
And people like you should leave the thread.
Darktide was made and promoted to be a shooter, hereby it should be one. Currently it isn’t one, since most of the time you brainlessly swing you weapon from side to side. And there’s literally not a single problem in the game that melee can’t solve, which is the problem as well.
Funny enough that text on the screenshot is kinda exclusive. Or use melee, OR shott lasgun, huh.
But okay, even hybrid suggests that it should be at least 50-50, and exceeding in only one should be a things
You clealy haven’y played darktide on release, where game was pretty much what is was supposed to be and where you could beat damnation(Harderst diff at that moment) without ever taking melee weapon into your hand if you were playing ranged class. And your opportunities were moving to covers to avoiding being punished and suppressed by shooters, carefully positioning yourself and dodging, instead of mashing left mouse button while spamming dodge-slide spam around enemies in melee
You are looking suprisingly adequate among most of these people.
They issue is that higher difficulty shouldn’t lock players to a single build\playstyle. This is a general gamedesign issue. And as much i understand that giving less resourses to player is a way to ramp difficuly, you should understand how unhealthy for the game it is that entire ranged weapon clasee in made practically useless because of it. If we are rendiring entire weapon classes useless, why not to do so with player classes? Restrict the amount of classes to one. Remove class-unique features. Equalize stats. All this will also make game harder, but it will also make game worse.
And on top of this - the issue i’m talking about isn’t relevant only for havoc, but for normals too.
This is one of the reason i call it shooter game, btw.
While there are classes and subclasses that focus on ranged combat, melee is still an important part of their toolkit. The game calls your melee weapon your primary weapon for a reason.
The game would be a lot more boring if you just had infinite ammo to spam everything with (staff psyker lol). Ammo management and brawling is what makes melee in this game so fun to me.
i’d really like to see more ambush scenarios from enemies. as it stands it’s too easy to rush ahead and reach spawns before they acquire a targetaggro/move to position; having these speed runners getting isolated and mowed down by a line of gunners makes sense
Untrue as shown above.
That sounds awfully boring.
That’s not true at all. Depending on the map layout and enemy seed, a cluster of Gunners, Shooters, and/or Reapers can use a choke point to make progression by melee alone too dangerous, requiring Blitzes or ranged suppression/elimination.
Additionally, are you actually implying that dedicating time to closing the gap for a bonk is more efficient than a ranged attack at eliminating Specialists?
Specialists are all time sensitive problems that make the battlefield exponentially more dangerous the longer they are alive, ranged attacks are definitely the preffered method of elimination in 90% of Specialist engagements.
It’s true, some ranged weapons - such as the Lasgun - are outdated and in need of an update. But allowing a class to become “ranged only” by perpetual Stealth or threat suppression against melee enemies is definitely not a postive contribution to Darktide.
