Mechanic question about pushing a dog

I was playing a havoc yesterday (before the most recent patch) and did a 180 and started sprinting back towards some stairs because two of my teammates had just gone down at the bottom of the stairs. I was mid sprint-slide when a dog rounded the corner right after the stairs and leapt at me without any pause/break between running and jumping. I still had time (I thought) to block-push the dog off of me while sliding, and I saw at least most of the block-push animation play, but the dog still landed on top of me and it was GG.

I called shenanigans, because I did what I was supposed to do, but it’s possible I was too late. I’m wondering if this could’ve been caused by the hitbox size increase? Like, I pushed, but the range of the push wasn’t as far as my hitbox was? This has supposedly just been fixed I think, but I tend to over-analyze moments where I screw up to see how I could improve.

Also, does anyone what exactly triggers the dog to not pause at all before pouncing? Is it just something that happens when you’re already at the right angle for the dog to jump (right in front of it)?

It’s probably lag, usually it can be pushed at very far distance.

I think they instantly pounce if they already running and locked on specific player. Though they clearly sometimes do pounces without lock on and thus often missing.

My advice for dogs and even bursters is to push 1 second before you should actually push. This is especially true with dogs. Sometimes the game lags and what you had happen will occur - if you push earlier rather than later, you can avoid this 9/10 times.

I’ve noticed dogs landing through pushes and dodges, and muties still grabbing you even if you dodge at the right time even with the hive scum talent that increases dodge distance and time considered dodging.

That said I haven’t played after the update that was meant to fix explosions, so I can’t tell you if it’s been fixed, or if it affected the rest of those things too.
