Lets talk Flamethrower

I know I said I wouldn’t be providing any feedback henceforth, I’m a liar.

The Flamethrower

We have a problem with this weapon right now, and it’s not immediately apparent. Back in April the Artemis Flamethrower was hit hard with some nerfs in an attempt to bring it in line with other weapons. Unfortunately this has lead to a strange situation.

The nerfs did not make the weapon unusable, and instead players who enjoy the weapon found the best way to get damage out of it.

Namely the Feats:

  • Retribution (which affects the attack speed of all weapons, ranged or melee, including the Flamethrower)
  • Emperor’s Executioner
  • Fury of the Faithful (Which also affects attack speed of ranged weapons)

This has allowed Zealots who use the Flamethrower to still enjoy the weapon, despite using up considerably more ammunition.

But this isn’t the problem, the problem is that the Flamethrower is a weapon, not a class ability. Sooner or later this exact flamethrower will be given to a Veteran class, or a different Zealot class. And they won’t have the same feats as the Zealot Preacher.

TL;DR Zealot makes Flamethrower still work because of janky Feats. In the future on other classes it will very likely be unusuable.

I use the flamer from time to time without any of those and I have legitimately no issues running it and getting enormous value out of it. I mean I totally see your point that it can be made that much better by feat selection, and thanks for tipping me off so I can try this, but the flamer doesn’t seem to be a problem in my view.

I do wish the weapon had its magazine size restored. Total ammunition count being reduced is a sufficient cost, but i liked the longer trigger time on my old flamer.
