Less Ogryn discussions?

Dunno, if it would make sense, but it would be good that, if they ever release a new class, it could share some weapons with Ogryns.

maybe i’m imune to such feelings, for going back to the mmo days i had 7 identical barbarians in age of conan and did a daily multi hour farming routine that felt relaxing.

then again if i’m comfortable with one setting i stick to it, trying to perfect it.
rather the “fear the man that practised one kick a million times” approach.

so far it seems to pay off.
usually i’m either the last to go down or first at picking up punies.
or, if i hit the deck, rest is crumbling shortly after.

i’m not free of mistakes, far to employed to have the luxury of 15 hour sessions of the “golden age”
but it tells me i’m right on track and keep the match going.

for some reason i cant reliably clutch as much with my vet, that tanky mindset and beefier approach to engagements is far to embedded in my ogryn brain by now.
not gonna lie, i love the “frontschwein” playstyle :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

edit: the “frontschwein” has “grunzt” again :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
gonna link it here as soon as uploaded, my back hurts. 14:19 p.m european time and tired as fkk despite energy drink input to the max  can’t see the “boredom” yet, sah

Ogryns are a meme and honestly my favorite part about Darktide, but really the only thing that stood out as needing fixing was Thundershovel. Right now some of their melee options are underwhelming but overall they’re doing alright and have a decently balanced arsenal (given that marks have gone away).

I just run shield Ogryn + Rock and have fun with it, or work on mastery and penances, but it’s not a class that needs reworking (Vet) or flashy enough to annoy people (Psyker). They’re effective, good at supporting a team in everything, and funny.

The Internet runs off of rage and spite and bigguns are too wholesome for that

we got the pickaxe by far the best designed weapon in game and hopefully a blueprint for going forward, so they do still get design time , id love more gear but if they only drop stuff when they have a pickaxe quality idea im good with it.

but then ill play all class’s

Yeah I love the feeling of the Ogryn too. It is kinda relaxing in a way I guess. Using the Ogryn melee as a form of stress reliever! Just the way it crunches through crowds is so satisfying.

Something id quite like to see is a ranged weapon that behaves a bit like the friendly rock blitz. So very slow reload etc but just absolutely obliterates the target it hits and travels miles and very fast. That would be fun.

A giant crossbow or harpoon perhaps, especially if the huge metal bolt pins enemy ragdolls to walls! How fun would that be?!

For melee it’s hard to imagine anything more fun than the pickaxe but I’d bet that a giant ball and chain style flail could be damn fun. Some sort of big morning star could be cool too. Oooo or a giant mallet.

Something like this perhaps?

You know how the Rumbler has a Grenade that you can bounce off of walls? Imagine that, but the Grenade is replaced by a huge Slug that just destroys whatever it hits… well, within reason. Essentially, a Vermintide Crossbow but even cooler.

Here’s an old datamine of that exact thing:

Description:
Lorenz Mk VII Thugshot (Ogryn single target hard damage single shot launcher)

Yes sounds cool! Would still love if it was a chunky crossbow bolt that fired from it so that enemies could be pinned together or against walls

Ogryn is probably the most well-balanced class in the whole game. He’s got a few dud nodes in his tree and power maul is just sad as previously stated, but other than that pretty much every option is worth using.

As others have said in this thread, he’s also just kind of boring, so these two facts combined mean that there isn’t a lot of discussion to be had about Ogryn outside of the Ogrynomicon.

I forgot about that!

As long as we’re chatting, can we at least double the grenade gauntlet projectile range already!?

Fewer ogryns in general too, I think it doesn’t help that vet and zealot got a double scoop of power creep & cream, while ogryn is the only one who kept getting “balance” adjustments the last many updates, sometimes 2 at a time.

The toughness node being moved was a rubbish change and totally unnecessary.

Not so stealthy stealth nerf :pensive:

Ogryn should be the tanky class, let the punies dodge-spam. The more inherently vulnerable to gunners the big man is, the worse it gets for this imo. I would rather see dodge nerfed and toughness buffed significantly to compensate.

I’m certainly feeling the combined effects of -10% TDR and -5% toughness regen nerfs from the mandatory perks up top when it comes to facing gunners of any description, makes me sad :frowning:

That said in regards to the node placement, I have to admit it does make for a neater skill tree. Sad to see the valuable node go, but I can sorta see why it happened. SORTA.

Now for my 2 cents on weapons, I’m ready for a dual-wield to complete my Slayer build! Something like dual cinderblocks, keep it basic for my small Ogryn brain

Probably one of the things I love most about the big man. Ponderous movement, strong basic weapons, accessible toughness regen, deliberate playstyle…

“Boring” as you put it sums up some of my favourite design features

I really do enjoy how much the personality of the class comes through in playstyle!

I was able to complete that one with the heavy stubber pretty quickly.

Devs ruin the fun parts of ogryn (I was slapping chaos spawns around before patch 13 ever happened, then they tuned it up way too much to where you didn’t have to wait for a specific attack window, and now its gone). Mostly they’re just moving him away from bullying and controlling groups of enemies and bringing him into the mowdown the everything everybody else already does. Weapons like the pickaxes and the fold shovel add nothing to that, so I just avoid using them altogether.

Instead I suffer totally unnecessary nerfs to the stagger power of his old weapons, as if they needed to make fold shovel/pick unique in that category to be good…but I will always be picking that for my preference, because that was my ideal role for the big guy. When I mix up I want a different experience from other classes and he delivers that in spades already. If you focus on the fundies and not following the whole ‘run 3 nukes on maelstrom gunlugger + pick’ no heretics allowed zone that is.

A spotlight really needs to be put on that. The justification was really less than inspiring… like. Damn, if a good node being too easy to get to is a problem than what does that mean for the other classes? Like, I don’t even want the Zealot tree to be rearranged (because I stan the only real problem is dueling sword), but imagine Duelist just being put in front of Martyrdom for no reason or Demolition Stockpile swapped with Agile Engagement to double the talent tax for no reason. Those probably aren’t good examples because it’s hard to picture a node worse than suppression.

Crunch has entered the chat

Ogryn’s skill tree is seriously hampered by their insistence on making the class reliant on heavy attacks for the melee side of it. EG: Crunch, batter, and hard knocks are required to move down the melee side and every one is heavy melee only.

Combine that with a lot of talents that just aren’t as interesting or universally useful and it kinda shoehorns you into particular builds overall.

Why does ogryn get a 10% rending on elite kill talent while veteran just gets a flat 10% rending at all times for example? To keep using the veteran example: Why do they get 3 choices for multiple tiers while ogryn have two?

It’s just very, very lopsided. Ogryn’s skill tree looks like an after thought in comparison to the other classes.

I don’t see too much of a problem with heavy attack focus tbh. Then again I hate light attack spam with a passion. I see it more as giving heavy attacks more depth than slighting lights. Crunch is useless though.

Also consider that while Heavy Hitter gains stacks from heavies, the damage applies to lights as well. If you take the bottom perk lights maintain the stacks, and going ham with the +10% AS on repeated Branx lights is hilariously effective

All up it’s always made sense to me that the heavy class prioritises heavy attacks. Now that we have big weapons (more pls) it’s even better!
