I have the same issue described. Used to bind “[” on every launch to push to talk. The recent update has broken the ability to rebind this function at all.
Using the reset to defaults in game does not fix the issue.
Using the “reset keybinds on launch” in the launcher settings does not fix the issue.
After a bit of troubleshooting I did find a work around. It is a bit involved and will reset your save file resulting in the loss of all of your loadouts, preferences, and settings.
.
The problem file is the one that is preserved via steam cloud sync. As a result, reinstalling the game, or using a different computer, will result in the same issue happening.
You can manipulate the game into using a new local, non synced save and regain your lost binding functionality. Then you can use this local file to replace the steam cloud sync file. I’ll describes the steps I took below.
.
THIS WORK AROUND WILL DELETE YOUR ALL YOUR LOADOUTS! MAKE SURE TO WRITE DOWN/SCREENCAP THEM BEFOREHAND
I would also advise you notes all your game settings as these may be lost too.
- Navigate to
%appdata%\Fatshark\Darktide
and check if you have eitherdefault.old
ordefault.sav
. Delete or move these files somewhere else - these are the local saves that we will be using and existing local saves may cause these steps to not work the same. - Navigate to
[Steam Install Directory]\userdata\[SteamUserID]\1361210\remote
. The install directory is usuallyC:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
and yourSteamUserID
is a string of numbers, likely the only folder in that location. Locate a file nameddefault
. Make a backup copy of this file, you can restore this to restore your loadouts, etc. (but the keybind issue will return too) - In the steam client, right click on the game and select
properties
. Under the general tab turn off Steam Cloud. - Before launching the game, delete the
default
file found in step 2. - Launch the game - at this point you should be able to bind the problematic keybind again. You will notice several game settings as well as your loadout are now reset too. These will need to be recreated/changes back to your preferences. You do not need to do all of this at this time. I would just verify the keybind works and move to step 6.
- Close the game. Navigate to the path described in step 1. Copy the file
default.sav
to the path described in step 2. - Rename this copied file to
default
(no file type). You may need to change windows explorers settings to show file name extensions. Accept the warning about changing the file name extension. - Re-enable steam cloud sync as described in step 3.
- Open the game and confirm that the binding still function. At this point the cloud save file has been fully replaced with this new one. Feel free to recreate your loadouts, etc.
Hopefully this helps those few players like myself who just dealt with the rebind issue that has excised since the closed beta and has since been made worse in this latest patch. In good news, it appears that after this workaround, the binding now persist across restarting the game. At least for the [ key that I use.
