KNOWN ISSUE: "DXGI_ERROR_DRIVER_INTERNAL_ERROR" on AMD Driver Version 26.6.2 & 26.6.4

It has been observed that the AMD driver versions 26.6.2 and 26.6.4 are resulting in players experiencing a DXGI_ERROR_DRIVER_INTERNAL_ERROR error on launch.

In the meantime, we recommend rolling back to the last known stable version 26.6.1. This should immediately resolve the issue.

Update 10/07 -

Some players have had success in using driver version 26.6.4 after disabling AMD FSR in either AMD Adrenalin driver settings, or in the Darktide launcher.

Thank you for your patience as we look in to this.

Is it possible to give an update every few days on the progress?
For AMD 7000 series users FSR 4.1 is quite the update, is this something that is due to Darktide conflicting with the newest drivers or AMD’s problem. On all other games, AMD 26.6.2 works fine .

AMD have since acknowledged that there are issues with the driver, so it is a case of waiting for them to release an updated version.

Have they indicated to you how long this could take? Some times it’s a month or more in between driver updates.

This high visibility update error issue should be a huge priority for them.

Expect a fix in the next 5 to 10 days.

Me and my 7900 XTX cant wait to level up my first Shitarii!!!

Absolutely stunning workaround (or rather potential fix) that worked for me:
While the AMD control centre (Adrenalin) is open, change the “Global Experience” for Darktide explicitly to HYPR-RX.

I had some problems with Battlefield 6 as well as it wouldn’t start, so some guy mentioned this method and lo and behold, it works. It simply works and I have no idea why.

And the same for Darktide. I have not a single clue as to why it’s working, it just does.

Hopefully this works for a few more people here.

Cheers and praise the Omnissiah!

EDIT: I have to mention I am on version 26.6.3 of the AMD driver, the first optional hotfix.

I tried this and still crashed 7800 xt 26.6.3 hotfix

Edit: restarted computer tried switching my brothers experience to hyper RX again and it worked by the omnissiah hes in!

Hi, I’ve tried on 26.6.4 with and without HyperRX and it is still crashing while trying to load the character selection screen

Also just updated to 26.6.4, and still get to the same place - the start screen - the game doesn’t recognize my controller so pressing A doesn’t work, and then when I press space bar it thinks for a few moments then crashes, same as before.

Are we still thinking it’s an AMD issue?

Driver version 26.6.4 unfortunately seems to be affected in the same way. The team is aware and we’re looking into it.

Thank you all for your continued patience.

Whatever was in the 5 gb update bricked the game for my brothers system it now blue screens his computer when we try to play any mission even with hyper rx enabled.

I am thinking this is not an amd issue anymore all other games he plays run flawlessly.

We were playing with no issues on the previous version before the 5gb update.

May the blessed Omnissiah help you figure this out.

Sorry to hear this @Eisenheim, BSOD usually indicates a deeper system level issue. In these instances, we recommend running through possible solutions here:

https://support.fatshark.se/hc/en-us/articles/360038965013--PC-How-to-Resolve-PC-Crashes-Loss-of-Responsiveness-or-Blue-Screens-BSOD

I found a fix for his problems but the game runs slow around 50-60 fps hes able to play through a mission without crashing.

Turned off all amd adrenalin feature except for hyper rx used TAA and changed mesh texture streaming to true instead of false.

He is able to get through the press space to play login screen and hasn’t crashed in 3 missions.

So i guess i will not be refunding for him, i just hope the FSR 4.1 situation gets sorted quickly so he can play at above 120 fps.

Blessing of the omnissiah thank you for your help @FatsharkLev

Edit: He can play missions but will randomly crash and the crash locks up his whole computer forcing a reboot by pressing power button.

Bios/drivers/chipset is updated tried all suggested fixes.

Figured i would list his specs for refernce again.

7800x3d

7800 xt

64 gigs ddr5 6000 mhz

2 tb m.2

win 11

Thanks for the update! I’m glad there’s been some positive progress in the right direction. Though the odd crashes locking up the PC remaining isn’t good :frowning:

Please ensure GPU driver version 26.6.1 is used, as 26.6.2 and 26.6.4 remain unstable.

If crashes persist, two shots in the dark:

Check if any background application may be the culprit, by performing a ‘Selective Startup’:

  1. Press the Windows key
  2. Type ‘msconfig’ and select ‘System Configuration’
  3. On the ‘General’ tab, select ‘Selective Startup’
  4. Deselect ‘Load startup Items’
  5. Reboot your PC

Failing this, I would look at OS perhaps. Running the Windows System File Checker may be of use:

https://support.fatshark.se/hc/en-us/articles/360039450413--PC-How-to-Run-the-Windows-System-File-Checker

Or, to try a Windows repair/reinstall. Though I do appreciate this is quite a length to go to, without a certainty of it working.

Please keep me updated!

We tried the suggested fixes and still the same problem unless he uses TAA and no amd settings other than hyprer RX on, if he does not have hyper RX on he can’t even get into character select.

We have identical system specs other than gpus my gpu is a 5070 ti and i can run the game out of the box without any ini tweaks or needing to do any other type of tinkering.

Yeah my game be crashin’ mid-mission with all of the 26.6.x drivers, 26.5.2, and 26.3.1.

Wrote to amd about it here: https://pcforum.amd.com/s/question/0D5Pd00001hWltSKAS/7900-xt-crashing-in-darktide

25.9.1 was suggested to me.

Edit: Apparently the drivers have been setting some cards over their default suggested max frequency. My 7900XT was 325 Mhz over the factory boost clock. That may help things. Never fiddled with overclocking before, but just turned it back down to 2450Mhz.

This fixed the issue for me. For anyone else with the same problem I had, you have to install adrenaline with the driver, go to performance tab, then tuning. Enable custom/manual tuning, enable “advanced control,” and then lower your max frequency to whatever your card’s default max boost clock is. Just look it up. It’s easier than it sounds.

I’m on 25.9.1 but 26.6.1 might work as well. I think a bunch of the driver releases were doing this. I’ll leave the bug report up since it lists a bunch of potential troubleshooting steps for others.

Okay I believe I have stabilized the crashing i’m on the latest amd driver running fsr 4.1

Credit to @Dumbledood for suggesting capping your cards mhz value this and all the fixes lev suggested plus running the game in hyper rx and using the mesh streamer false to true has fixed the crashing for my brother.

If I had to pin point the fixes that fixed the issue I would have to say capping the mhz value to stock levels and changing the mesh streamer value from false to true were probably the ones that yielded the biggest stability gains.

I did a test to see if I could reproduce the crashes and it was replicated when the mhz values were not capped at stock values for some reason when I was playing darktide the gpu was ignoring its mhz limit and every time it went over 2600 mhz it cause darktide to lock up the computer and crash. Hard capping the mhz value for clock speed on the card back down to 2500 or below fixed the crashing.

I have no idea if this is an amd driver exclusive interaction with darktide or not. I tried doing this in space marine 2, no more room in hell 2, warhammer 3 total war, deep rock rogue core and none of those games crashed when the cards clock values were above stock value.

I wish i could get the crash report from when these crashes occur but it hard locks the pc and causes a black screen forcing me to turn off the computer manually.

Any way sorry for the tl:dr super late and tired

Omnissiah be praised.
