KNOWN ISSUE: Character Moving in Random Directions With Controller After Nightmares & Visions Update

With the Nightmares & Visions update, we’ve resolved an issue with the deadzone setting under the ‘Controller’ tab in ‘Settings’. Now, when your deadzone is set to 0, it will actually apply as 0, meaning any stick drift will be noticeable. In the past, the correct value was not being applied.

Those that have lowered their deadzone previously are at risk of experiencing this issue.

You should be able to resolve this by simply increasing the deadzone - we recommend starting at 0.05 and slowly increasing the value should the issue persist.

Before the nightmares update, I had my deadzone setting at 0.02. Then, as soon as I load into the game after the update, I have insane stick drift on both sticks. I have upped the deadzone setting to 0.12. Which is a crazy jump to gain overnight, this is clearly a weird bug or something. This wouldn’t be so bad as I can just up the DZ but you only have one global setting for deadzones, not one slider for left stick and one for right stick. This has now messed my sticks up horribly as my left stick is sensitive as hell and I can’t lower it anymore without it drifting, but the right stick deadzone is way to high and doesn’t respond to micro movements.

So PLEASE add individual sliders for both left and right thumbstick deadzones separate from each other (like all other games btw) or fix whatever happened to the deadzones pre-patch.

I’ll edit my post to say this too, but start at 0.05, and slowly increment should the issue persist. One player I’m speaking to has had success with 0.07. :slight_smile:

still desperately need the deadzones sliders for left and right to be separate

It’s my understanding that the deadzone has always affected both sticks, so that shouldn’t have changed. Feedback is always welcomed though!

yea its strange coz now my left DZ needs to be higher than my right so the right stick isnt responsive when i set the DZ to suit the left stick. and if i set the DZ to suit my right stick then i have crazy drift on the left. so i cant win with it atm

Great to see you addressing this quickly.
However, controllers need deadzobe sliders for each stick as increasing the deadzone on the look stick is going to feel like garbage.
Would you want a delay to your mouse movement inputs? Noooo.
Really great work on the update otherwise.

An issue has been identified which causes inconsistent behaviour between the left and right sticks, it’ll be addressed within a couple of weeks. :slight_smile:

Is it possible, and Im just blurbing here, that the deadzone never affected the left stick at all? Like maybe it had a default setting while the right stick was affected by the old deadzone setting where 0.01 was actually something like 0.05? :thinking: Its hard to tell because something like confirmation bias might be at play here. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

All I know is, at 0.07 my right stick feels a bit off and the left only drifts a tiny bit, while at 0.05 the right feels like it did before the update but the left drifts all the time. Again, maybe its just a bias, all I know is something feels off.

Could you possibly confirm what the old value of 0.00 was relative to now? Id be interested to know if this is all in my head or if Im close to the… deadzone :drum: :collision:
