First of all I also love Kantrael Lasguns especially MG XII. But it took me some time to figure how to play with it. Have been playing with it mostly on vet.
My biggest issue is probably the damage inconsistency. Basically you need to hit weakspots and at the same time crit to be able to deal decent damage to armored targets. On top of that most sources of Brittleness or Rending on veteran favor automatic weapons. And then there is also damage difference depending on the range.
Lowering damage reduction against armored targets would help to deal more consistent damage.
Improved recoil reduction would greatly help with repeated pin point accurate hits and also kind of makes sense for the precision laser-based weapon.
And lastly I would suggest to improve weakpoint hitboxes to be more accurate. It often happens that I clearly hit the head and it doesn’t count as a weakpoint hit.
When it comes to mobility I think it’s not that big of a deal. I think many people have problem to sustain their stamina especially with the Deadshot. Just by investing into more stamina, most of the mobility issues should be solved. Also to reposition yourself you can swap to more mobile melee weapon e.g. knife.
Anyway I love to play with Kanrael Lasun for its precise shooting playstyle and ended up with pretty fun and successful sniper build.
The Lasgun has the same niche it always had. Mid to long range Elite, Special and Shooter killer. It being harder to have the peace and quiet required to make those long range shots does not mean it lost it’s niche.
What you are describing is a positioning issue on your end. It is still possible to hang back, and shoot things, while not having an Ogryn block your shots. Simply moving a little to either side, left or right, does fix the Ogryn issue in 90% of the time, in my experience. And Ogryns are usually the least problematic teammembers. More annoyingly its the Psykers, many of which have a bad habit of dodging when they don’t need to, who tend to block a lot of shots, since they often are closer to you and by the nature of things thus take up more space in your field of view. And of course other ranged Operatives that have a nasty habit of realizing that you picked a nice spot and step infront of you… after all, you have a line of sight, so if they are one step closer they have a line of sight… that is how this works, right?
It isn’t. The Infantry Lasgun very much works with bodyshots still. You don’t need to weakspot hit. You will need to weakspot hit for big damage numbers. But if you are not confident in your aiming skills then focusing less on killing everything and more on learning the game (and thus to aim) would be advisable. Those “skilled players” didn’t start out that way. They didn’t get born with the knowledge of how to aim a gun in Darktide.
That’s more like a “you” think. All Infantry Lasguns are viable. All Helbore Lasguns are viable. Only the Accatran Mk VId Recon Lasgun is viable of the Recon Lasguns, at least when we talk Auric level of difficulty. Although one has to say that the VId needs a proper build to work, then again, same could be said for the other Lasguns.
Your job is not to shoot into the horde with it. That is what you have a Melee weapon and your Blitz for.
Seriously, while i use the Scoreboard myself it has started to instill this mindset in the player base of chasing damage numbers, when it would be more prudent to pick a task on the team and focusing on doing that task well. Not everyone needs to be top scoring damage output. Focus on combating shooters and gunners and you will find the Infantry Lasgun and the Helbore Lasgun to be more than up to the task.
Maybe this rubs me the wrong way because of your other thread, but if you want mobility there is a solution: Take a knife.
It still is. Even the right most keystone wants you to use the ranged weapon more than the melee weapon, and you are very much incentivized to swap weapons lots of times.
Both the Vet can accomplish just fine, even without a knife. If you find yourself cut off a lot from your team, then you need to communicate with your team or play a different class that works better with the rushing playstyle your teammates want to play.
I frequently play my Veteran with a team of two very aggressive Zealots and i neither have an issue keeping pace, nor an issue with finding positions from which to “snipe” from. Knowing the map lay out and where the good positions are, is of course of benefit in this endeavor. Also adopting a more “chill” mindset of not needing to be the one that does all the killing. Nobody said you couldn’t take a few seconds in a fight to reposition, or that you shouldn’t frequently reposition during a fight to maintain optimal firing lanes. Doing so will rarely leave you cut off in any meaningful way.
And if your teammates ain’t looking out for you, then i would suggest forming premades where this can be discussed… so people will not run off without the team.
It is physics 101. Each force has an equal and opposite reaction. It is Newtons third law.
In which case said lasers have less of an impact than a butterfly landing on a flower, as the Laser will weaken over distance due to scattering off of air molecules and moisture (say nothing of possible smoke and other air phenomena). Whoever told you that either is selling you propaganda or can’t do math.
Both the Infantry Lasgun and the Helbore Lasgun have predictable recoil patterns.
Because their skillfloor got increased when Fatshark rebalance the enemy HP. The proliferation of Lasgun among randoms does say nothing about the weapon itself. It does say something about the state of the game, as we are increasingly moving towards a melee centric game and most engagements get fought in close range.
Alas there is a “Lasgun” type for that. And instead to argue to change the other two Lasguns type (though i have the distinct feeling you are only arguing about Infantry Lasguns), you should rather argue for the two Recon Lasgun variants, that don’t work, to be changed. Either by adding more Stagger to them, or giving them more of a punch.
That is the last thing they could do with.
Stop shooting into the horde. That is what you have a Melee weapon for. Learn to melee, you are given two sets of weapons for a reason. One isn’t just ornamental.
I see no reason for this.
And remove any risk/reward from hitting weakspots? No thank you. There is a great program you can install. It’s called Aim Labs, it helps you improve your accuracy in video game shooters.
If you want to spray and pray, then there are Recon Lasguns and the MG IV Infantry Lasgun.
And we shouldn’t turn the game into a race to the bottom where we downgrade everything until nobody needs any sort of skill. Seriously, invest the time to… git gud.
Except it does not suck. Your lack of ability to use them doesn’t mean they suck.
The Lasgun is still the Workhorse it always was. It is neither exceptional nor bad. It’s a jack of all trades and a master of none.
Inability to use it properly does not mean the Infantry Lasgun sucks, it means you need to try harder. I am playing Auric Mealstrom missions with both the Infantry Lasgun MG Ia and MG XII, and based on my Scoreboard i am not doing badly. I am doing “alright” when i am using them. I carry my own weight, and when the chips are down i perform reliably with them.
With a proper build geared towards them they work just the same they have always done half a year ago (or so). In my opinion the Infantry Lasguns are in a good position. Of the Laser weapons the one that needs to be looking at is the Mk VIIa and MK II Recon Lasguns. They have no place in an Auric mission. They do not have the DPS required and provide no stagger, where as one would think that the stagger adds up, but doesn’t. The lack of DPS and stagger results in a very unsatifactory experience, where you are struggling to stop elites before overwhelming you.
The MK II should have more stagger and the MK VIIa should have more damage and penetration. But those are the only Lasguns that need work right now. And maybe the special action of the Mk III Helbore Lasgun needs to be a stab, like the other two.
Yes, it is very much possible to position yourself, even on an Auric Maelstrom, where you do not only get to full stacks on the left keystone but also only engage beyond 20meters while not being left behind.
It takes practice and the desire to make it work. Only with the later you get the former and with the former it becomes increasingly possible.
You can crutch with Infiltrate while you practice.
You do have time for nonsensical suggestions tho. Between this and your other change demand i can’t help but feel Veteran is not for you. For the reason why i called it nonsensical i refer you to my previous post.
