Is there any chance at all they fix engineer?

I agree, at least to some extent, perhaps some career design should take a page from Engineer’s book when it comes to ability spamming. It’s just hard for me to imagine what that would look like. That would be a huge rework. As is, cooldown just happens on it’s own; perhaps for some careers it could be based more on kills, stagger, headshots, etc. rather than just a set amount of time.

I mean, you raised subjective opinions on several things, including Engineer, i responded by stating that i do not share those opinions and instead i shared my own plus bits common sense for ranged specialists as i understand it having played since beta. Like not shooting teammates while greeding for kills or such…if you interpet that as me telling you to “l2p” then that´s up to you.

Have you ever stopped to consider that it might not be a question of competition so much as simply wanting to have fun yourself? Do you think that the say, Grail Knight will have fun watching the Engineer/waystalker/bounty hunter just kill everything in sight, hordes included, without him (the GK) getting to do anything? Or if he engages first and you run up behind him and start pouring the entire barrel into his back while he is just trying to have fun?

This mindset is also my basis for calling Griffonfoot bounty unbalanced, he is too versatile and good at wiping out whole screens of enemies, monsters included, without much pause at all. Forget melee careers, any other teammate easily ends up as a sad bridesmaid to that.

And here we reach the ever so common"you do not agree with me and therefore you are a fool whose opinions are irrelevant" response. You do not happen to see the irony here in that you open a discussion but dismiss any opposing opinion instantly? It kinda sends the signal that you are not looking to debate at all but you are instead looking for an echo chamber that goes “yes sir, you are so right sir, most wise words i ever heard sir”. Or something on that track.

But out of curiosity, what exactly do you expect from me by claiming that i have “exposed” myself by disagreeing with you? Would you even have the decency to apologize for personal attacks if i prove the fact that i have indeed mainly played elf and can back up what i state to some degree or would you simply double down that everyone who is against you is an idiot no matter what? I cant help but wonder.

Dont forget aabout heatsink coruscation pyro, who can deal way more damage than coruscation battle wizzard.

I really think this is because of his clunkiness and the resulting issues in quickplay.

Because if the team works together, or you are very used to him so you can keep up a fast pace with him, he will be indeed really strong with his wave clear and torpedo vs patrols and monster/bosses. And because of his high potential i would never call him weak, even if he is really struggling sometimes in qp.

Yes, mostly an issue playing with randos, playing with friends turns out ok usually. Still, when an Engineer is on the team people have to constantly be aware of him.

If I remember the topic correctly I did place him at the bottom because that’s where he should be. But I don’t think he’s even close to being unviable in cata.
Definitely needs more skill to pilot him optimally compared to some others.
(for shiz and giggles I took a look, yeah my opinion has definitely changed)

I wouldnt say that you have to babysit a well played engi on cata. But it is true that because of his clunkiness, it is harder for an engineer to get to this level of gameplay than with other careers.

You can try 1h hammer on him with opportunist. It has good tho regen, nice stagger, many stamina shields and high mobility.

@Ensrick When it comes to pyro i tend to agree witth you, because she only has 2 strong builds. The first is the heatsink coruscation staff pyro with dagger or flaming flail which gives you tons of crit for loosing overcharge so a are able to spam coruscation way more often than with other sienna careers and her ult gives you survivability or extra thp for venting. And dagger/flaming flail has good crowd control and thp regen with crit talent. The second build uses same melee weapons but fireball staff with heatsink.

Since they are both heatsink builds and work very similiar i would say she is bit limited in viable builds and all other builds are lackluster compared to other careers and classes. But these two builds can be indeed very powerful.

When I’m playing with a full group of friends, I’ve reached a point almost anything on any career works on regular Cata, but it’s not ideal. 1h hammer is a nice defense/offense combo, but for quickplay, since 90% of my damage comes from ranged weapons, I’ll stick with hammer+shield as insurance.

@Ensrick Sure hammer and shield is fine as well and imo one of the best melee weapon options as well. It was just an idea to try out since it works very nice for me and i tried both.

I edited the post above yours, and added my opinion on pyro.

I’ve never used this build of yours, but I have used the fireball one quite a bit. I know a dagger is also good, but I prefer a regular non-flaming sword for the reach and crowd clearing; it is fast enough at high overcharge. I don’t usually use the flail, because my THP gains are better with dagger or 1HSword.

I’ll give the heatsink Coruscation/Flail build a try; that looks cool.

But yeah, it seems Pryo has only maybe 2-3 builds with slight alterations that really make sense; the rest are kinda mediocre and in general Pyro lacks versatility. Mostly just a glass cannon DPS crit machine, but the few builds she has are extremely effective glass cannon types.

Oh yeah 1h sword is very good the 3 light attack (i guess) which is a single target hit, has a very good headshot and critical strike damage multiplier and destroys elites.

@Ensrick

Here is the pyro coruscation build i am running

Now, it just occured to me that the “Ride the Fire Wind” talent at high stacks could be neat with fire pillars depending on how DOT and the pillar’s damage works. If it updates with every stack, that might not be so good, but if it deals damage with the power bonus of the buff at whatever count it was at, that could be really good. Would have to test it.

I think that is the same build in the link you sent me, as the one I pulled up.

Nice idea, i havent tested it if it works for the pillars even after they have been placed. I guess both talents are nice. The more crit on high health is also nice and synergizes with your ult since it works for thp as well.

Here the fireball build

With the Fireball build, I use the 1HSword, Martial Study, and Critical Mass with more of a melee focus. I have browsed your builds by your username on Ranald’s Gift, I can see them; lots of good stuff.

Thanks mate was bit of work to cover all the different builds and double check them again with the damage breakpoint calculator again after playtesting them on cata and cata+

Look, taken by itself this post is reasonable. You’re right, engi is one of the hardest classes to play well, not that it’s not possible.

That said, I saw you also posted this thread about bots being better than players. This makes me think that maybe you’re the one not making enough of an effort to avoid disablers (every single one can be consistently avoided with the correctly timed side dodge and/or push), and overall not meshing well with human players. Don’t take that harshly, it’s absolutely reasonable to not be able to dodge them every time only 4 weeks into the game.

Generally speaking, human players do more damage and take less damage than the bots when the team is playing well together, even if they won’t always make as much of an effort to rescue you (although, a good player always makes a judgment call. If they can rescue you without taking too much damage themselves, they should. Rescuing disabled or downed teammates is a skill I feel like I particularly try to be good at).

Obviously you’ll all die faster if the team isn’t playing nice with each other at all.

This matters because when you get to Cata and Cata+, the bots simply won’t keep up compared to human teammates unless you really put in work. It’s important to find the right balance of the “being able to solo any situation yourself” mindset so that everyone is killing what they should fast with the “gotta help watch my teammates’ backs” mindset. It sounds like you might still be stuck in “Gatling gun go brr against everything” mode which obviously won’t work in Cata. It’s a situational tool for elites, specials, and monsters and only used for hordes when absolutely safe.

The main advantage engi has over other classes like ranger vet after all, is the fact that you always have a long range capable sniping weapon that you can use anytime as long as it’s safe to charge it up. That means you can bring something like Torpedo, Drakegun, or Drakefire pistols as your secondary. You should be using your drakegun at hordes instead of your ult so you don’t shoot your teammates, and if you didn’t bring one, just try using your melee against hordes like everyone else unless you see a perfect bottleneck that none of your teammates are already standing in. I guarantee you’ll see some improvement.

Ok basically this. Didn’t realize it was said already lol.

His kit is clunky af but it shows less especially for better players since combat fundamentals make up for almost every shortcoming in this game.

What? For real?
Have you never been one-shot by a bounty hunter? (as a tragic mistake or just out of spite)
The crank gun does attrition damage, as most ranged attacks do, but it’s nothing to write home about.
Most ranged ultimates (trueflight, searing head, DOUBLE SHOT…) and many weapons (throwing axes, hagbane, moonfire bow, torpedo…) do more damage than it does.
