Introduction to the Itemization Rework - Dev Blog

I’m gonna get flak for this, but you are saying you want complete agency of every aspect of the weapon right? Decide blessings/perks, no locks, AND exact stats?

I actually think that removes a lot of the excitement from the game. If you can achieve the exact weapon you/the community wants (there’d be like 1-2 meta builds per weapon), what else is there to do besides the core gameplay? Which is awesome, the best part of the game, but it would still wear it down a lot. There’d be no excitement for new stuff seeing as you already have what you want on top of complete agency of your character, talents, and overall build. It would be almost like when you’re in a perfect 4 of gods cruising through Auric compared to the randomness of getting people of varying skill, which is way more dynamic and fun imo.

Doing missions to get Emperor’s gifts, checking the in-game shop, and spending ordo dockets at Brunt’s to get a weapon with good stats really isn’t that bad (especially now that Hadron won’t be able to brick it anymore).

I sincerely hope they don’t do this.

Amazing so since i have all possibly t4 blessing unlocked i have to grind for them yet again?
Great just great.
tldr randomised weapon are to stay, you are to grind yet again and we wont even wipe out your currency!
Have any one of those people whos making those changes are actually playing this game?
I mean like spending more than 30 minutes in the game weekly?
Why cant you misirable slobs just give us analogue of red weapon from vermintide?
Or just copy weaves weapon upgrades?
Why do you have to reimagine the wheel every single god damn time?
No one, literally no one asked for this.

all true except the 380 part, new systems shows 500.

I think the intent is for all those old system unlocked blessings to contribute to Mastery progression sufficiently to see those same blessings available in the new system.

If it actually happens that way? Well, none of us know yet. But I do know for certain there’d be a small riot and several nuclear launches detected if we (the old hands, current players) actually lost progress.

What suggests that in you opinion?
I don’t see RNG now… but I see a wall behind the progression.

and that’s great.

There. That.

It means you are still rolling RNG for a good base weapon, and I want to know if there are ways to affect those random results or an alternate path to the stats you want, ie. RNG mitigation.

That might’ve been the case if weapon stats and blessings were interesting in the first place.
I’m sorry, but you and I have very different ideas of what contributes as “exciting”, marginal up/downgrades just isn’t doing it for me.

The excitment comes from fatshark releasing new maps and weapons, figureing out how best to use them, that expirence is going to be soured if you have to spend hours with a subpar weapon in this new system.

The random base stats don’t solve the crafting issue.
Let me remind you how the current crafting works
You can level any weapon with +310-320 and get 1 Tier IV blessing. Real example
I got all the bolt pistol blessings after upgrading ~6 bolt pistols to legendary and earned all tier IV
For my main bolt pistol i purchased ~50 bolt pistols to have them with great stats.
Upgraded it, changed 1 perk and 1 blessing to be my exact combo

So whats different from this?
We still have to purchase greys and hope for good stats at the end ?
We can STILL GET WEAPONS at 350+ that have stats with 25% or less ?
We get blessings VIA progression oh G, that saves what a few damnation mission to get all the blessings?

Bloody hell at least limit the stats RNG or make a guaranteed min stat at legendary like
when you upgrade it to legendary you roll an RNG and get a damage value between 70 and 80% at least

At the experise it says clearly that it increases the stats, HOW ? at the start of the post it clearly stated this “When viewing any weapon, it will show the weapon’s maximum potential stats. These stats will be randomly determined.”

So we get randomly determined base stats like we had before but we add the option to increase the stats so we are just averaging again and not doing much ?

AGAIN this doesn’t solve the problem of grinding A LOT for the weapons one wants…I don’t mind to put in work to get god rolls(already did for 70% of the weapons in game) but this hardly changes how it operates now, it just helps to have a guaranteed average weapon while still f-ing everything else above

Otherwise this update hardly changes anything from what we have right now, it just changes the way you grind and helps reduce the number of missions required to get good weapons

I don’t even want to start on the inventory transition as its complete garbage by default, the only thing it will be that if i have all the tier 4 blessings i will get some weapon mastery, this is the only good part, the migration system to convert my weapon will be good ONLY IF it interacts with the mastery and DOENS’T tamper with anything related to the weapon

I have nearly every of the blessings in the game unlocked for each weapon type. What exactly does this imply for me?

If it means having to start from scratch, this is a really terrible idea.

This makes no sense to me after a fast read.

Why would you strive for fairness between new and veteran players when some of us have spent between 1000 to 4000 hours in Darktide?
This is not a competitive game; there is no raiding, PVP, or other ways to compare or compete with other players outside your own skill level.

You cannot win against another player in Darktide, as Fatshark doesn’t seem to comprehend this. You can win a match TOGETHER, but you cannot win separately because the goal of the game is to enter the mission, complete the objectives, and extract TOGETHER as a team.

I may be reading this incorrectly, and someone more intelligent than me is welcome to correct me, but attempting to strike a balance between a brand new player and a 1000+ hour player who has endured the terrible gacha gambling system since Darktide’s release sounds insane and downright foolish to me.

literally no one asked for this. all anyone wanted was locks removed and like a 350 minimum power score from the shop. even JUST the locks removed would’ve been better. at leas that way when i spend 1m on weapon rolls i wont brick viable options. getting my entire inventory ive grinded for or lucked out with over 1000hrs wiped out on all chars and some pity “headstart” tossed my way is bs. i have nearly every 1-4 blessing for every weapon in game aside from the ones just added. if the “headstart” is not enough to get ALL of that from the start it is not even close to enough.

This since day one.

It wasn’t the grind that kept people playing Vermintide 2. It was CONTENT like chaos wastes that accentuated the actual star of the show: the gameplay.

They’re following the destiny 2 route of crafting: Unlock a weapon and then GRIND for hours to unlock the perks you actually want.

This is the biggest concern. Imagine having to ‘waste’ 6, 8 or 10 runs with a weapon you don’t enjoy (which is the case for many weapons until you get the right blessing combo) only to find out that the blessings don’t make a difference after all.

The fact that the current weapon modification mod is built upon unfinished existing systems is proof enough that it was planned. There’s also the fact that most guns have a modeled rail system which is used for attachement switching. At some point they dedicated a lot of resources in setting up weapon modification but seemingly discarded it last minute. Which seems like the common motif regarding almost every system in darktide.

@FatsharkStrawHat a question regarding Mastery:

Let’s say certain someone did his duty to Omnissiah and collected all of the blessings.
(2540h, 100% of the Blessings before patch on 25th of June)
Does 100% Blessings collection with translate to 100% of Weapon Mastery?

Grind

If it doesn’t, I hereby pledge to put all the bits of you we can find after you explode in the cutest little ossuary.

I’m feeling a little bit like damage control at the moment, but what I’m reading isn’t that they’re trying to balance new versus old comparatively to each other, but ensuring both are treated fairly. I’m hoping that means the veterans don’t have to re-earn blessings and the grind for new players happens concurrently with their character leveling, rather than post-30, after they start getting properly ‘max potential’ weapons to then gain Mastery for.

I hope it’s not as villainous as some few of us might be expecting. But the sad truth is that, given the history of Darktide’s progress since release, the belief in an end result being as positive as can be hoped for is, ah, “difficult” for a lot of us to cling to. I certainly can’t blame anyone for not quite having faith in the outcome, honestly.

its standard corpo play. its easier to get new players by offering incentives to join than rewarding people who supported you since day 1.

Ok… then I absolutely want to know it also…

Maybe for someone who’s completely new, but you strike me more as a vet just like me and most people that play this game. Now that we don’t run the risk of getting a nicely stat’d gun bricked, we most likely won’t have to spend hours and hours getting these weapons.

For new guys everything will be new, no repetition burnout, min-max obsessionetc, so I believe they’ll be fine too.

But we do. Whenever a new weapon type drops we will have to grind mastery for hours before we can build it the way we want. No matter how many hundreds of hours we’ve spent before. There’s also the associated RNG getting a good base with good upgrade potential.

this. if youve played that much u should be 100% with this new crap. full stop. if ur not its not even close to fair for old players. you dont join a game thats been out for years at this point and expect to be “on par” with players whove been playing since day 1 or sunk in 1k+ hours. and players whove been playing since day 1 or sunk 1k+ hours shouldnt be brought down to new players level for the sake of being “fair”. thats not fair.

@FatsharkStrawHat please can we get a serious boost to plasteel and unlocks removed before you all go off for summer?

Plasteel in the current system is sadistically rare.

The highest difficulty levels offer an average of 500-1500 plasteel a match I think (roughly). That is so pathetically small that it makes the grinding seem pointless.

Plasteel should be given in similar quantities to dockets.

Why? Because you’ll be lucky to get all IV blessings on 2-3 weapons with 100k plasteel. How long does it take to get 100k plasteel? About 700 lifetimes. You can’t even fully consecrate a blank weapon with plasteel earned from an auric match.

Come on!

You guys wonder why were all so stressed out about the weapons crafting.

Just x10 the amount of plasteel each pickup gives, remove the locks and hey presto - your player count will almost certainly go up whilst we wait for this update in many months time.

I’m kinda actually begging at this point.

I’ve played almost 700 hours of this game and I obviously love it and enjoy it… But the rate of warning plasteel is so out of whack with how much we require for basic weapon upgrades is making me not want to grind anymore. It’s too deflating.

But that’s just the thing, in this new proposed system, we’re still dealing with RNG for getting a base weapon with good stats

When viewing any weapon, it will show the weapon’s maximum potential stats. These stats will be randomly determined.

And whenever a new family of weapons get released you still have to spend however long it’ll take to achieve “Mastery”

This is the core progression system that is tied to the weapon type / weapon family itself. As players use a specific weapon, they’ll gain more experience. This unlocks new blessings, perks, marks and a special weapon cosmetic along the way via the reward tracks. As players progress, the potential quality and stats of the weapon also increases.

Currently we don’t know how long it will take, but that doesn’t matter, in this system you have to run at least a couple of matches with a subpar weapon.
