Introduction: Mortis Trials - Dev Blog

Still a bit bummed by how little effect a lot of character creation had. It’s pretty much JUST the personalities and nothing else actually has any effect. When I was picking a planet for my vet, I picked the Agri-world deliberately as it mentioned they were the butt of many jokes in the Domain. I figured people would be making cracks about the “grox-poker” or “hay-seed” or whatever every few minutes. Nothing. Figured my zealot from the Shrineworld would mention how shrines on her homeplanet were so much more extravagant whenever we walk through a shrine on Atoma. Or my psyker from the ocean planet would mention how unsettling it is to see a landscape view with no water in it when we enter the Hourglass. All nothing.

Regardless of whatever we chose for them, they seem to have their own predetermined childhoods, turning-points, and adulthoods or whatever the phases are called. And they just don’t mention home worlds at all except for the Cadian personalities, of course. But they mention it even if you pick a different planet altogether.

I don’t mind them having limited speech options. I know it takes work. I just wish we weren’t presented with the illusion that our choices would have an impact. All it does is set one up for disappointment.

@FatsharkStrawHat Yo! Is it possible for the comming update that you change the weapon selection in menus back? Right now if you’re crafting the menu always switches to the weapon that is on top of your inventory and doesn’t select the one you’re using or the one you just changed the blessing for. The top weapon or curio is always the default atm and that’s really inconvenient.

It’s very obvious that the shift was made late in development with a good chunk of VA work already done (Savant Psyker, Loner Psyker, Cadian Vet, and arguably Judge Zealot all have a hefty chunk of dialogue pointing at already-settled backstories).

exactly that one, it’s really irritating when you still have plenty of weapons and the game makes you scroll through everything again and again - even more as it worked properly and something broke some time ago.

That will never be anyone’s responsibility but yours.

absolutely, just goes to show my love for the game.

if i put my whole passion into a game, the rig is build around it.

besides, cant take anything with me once i kick the bucket, so i might as well spend my real world aquillas on stuff that brings me joy

Hey there! I was going to try to work these into the patch notes, but I think they don’t really fit with how we’re doing the Mortis Trials section. SO, I’ll add them here.

The archetypes provide their own ways of applying the status effects that they interact with. Fulminator isn’t weaker, since it gains its own unique buffs and combines with other players and their archetypes too.

Death Dealer is an archetype that is focused more on ranged damage – not everything is elemental in nature.

The objectives will be familiar ones from the missions that you’ve played before, but the Mortis Trials have a varied selection.

There are no brand new enemies or patterns, but some of the Havoc behaviors have made their way in…

The arena is a static area throughout the Trial.

That is just pathetic. Most don’t spend that much on their first or even second motorbike or car FFS. Whatever, it’s their money to p*ss away at the end of the day…

I dont own a motorbike or car and while I dont have several thousand pounds to spend on a computer, if I could I would.

Many people spend way more on cars and motorbikes. 50k-100k if they have a good job. Whats 5k on a beast of a PC if its literally your main hobby and you have the income.

Calling it pathetic is very strange. If it you cant possibly conceive of you ever spending that much on a computer, I can understand. But to think thats piddling money away? Kinda strange imo.

Oh good! You spoiled us this time with your BIG update.

I am relieved to know that we’ve already done the types of objectives you are implementing in the Trials.

For a second I thought you would have designed something new for us to discover: new puzzles, new mechanics or physics.

Oh and the arena will be static and non evolutive? I disliked surprises anyway.

Why are you trying to make a point by posting a clip of Musa, a very small side character?:see_no_evil_monkey:

You’re also a bit off track.

While Musa of Mali is not the same as Mansa Musa, the ninth Mansa of Mali, Warhorse was inspired by Mansa Musa.

Mansa Musa, the ninth Mansa of Mali, was a real person in history who Just like Musa of Mali in KCD2, hailed from a world of palaces and amazing technology.

Mali was a flourishing empire built on gold trade at the time, and (if my history teacher back in school was not lying), Mali treated their women much better than Bohemia (still really bad, but better in comparison), and it wasn’t until 30 years later, with the decline of the Empire, that slavery among other things became a major issue.

Also, in the Muslim world back then, people were more inclined to place women in positions of power while Christianity did its thing, but both Africa and Europe treated women brutally in the end.

Women were in the end seen as commodities by men rather than as individuals.

Back to Musa of Mali of KCD2…

How would you react if you suddenly was forced to leave your native country to travel to Europe (I’m talking about Musa of Mali now), where everyone was behind the times (basically stone age) and treated you poorly?

Musa used to be a physician at the king’s court, but he was transferred to a military camp far away due to a slight.

I’d be just as bitter as Musa about having to “wadte” my schooling and high learning at a place where everyone is a “savage”, even talking bad about your horse!

Meanwhile Henry gets karked on constantly because of his low birth; just admit it: you don’t like Musa because of his skin color in your European medieval game.

cant remember pissing in your cornflakes, guess it must really bother you what people spend their money for. :man_shrugging:

especially if you sit through chemo twice a week, money once the bills are paid, becomes irrelevant to a point.

now here in good ol germany we have :poop: gun laws (health care’s good though  )
so IF there was a proper gun store around maybe some mcfarlane figure funds would find their way into other “toys”
man i’d love me a fn p90 :winking_face_with_tongue:

anyways bucket list nr 3: texas or vegas outskirts shooting range and going apesheet with .50cal

dude should check the price on those rounds before frothing about hardware prices

I think you’re mixing it up with Wakanda.

Pure fiction.

You’re right. Just like I wouldn’t like it if Henry suddenly got on a hooverbike and said “See you l8r alligator!” and while taking a long sip out of a pumpkin spice latte.

I don’t hate any of those things by themselves. (except for the latte) They just don’t make any sense.

well its a source of fun for 1400+ hours and my fav 40k game.
closest thing to quake dopamine since i “retired” from competitive fps.

besides, i rather not tell what i put into figures and paint last year alone, that are still a “backup” in case side-effects keep me from playing for longer

maybe a bit if background, with the exception of doom3 in 2004 and covid 3080 prices, ever since 94’ i was looking forward to getting a new rig every 2 years at the latest.(those two occasions, i kept my rig for 3+years)

gaming’s my #1 hobby, so i see no problem putting my funds into something i love after force-selling my lifetime for something i HAVE to do.

“time(money) enjoyed wasting isnt wasted time”
