My sympathies, here in Europe it has never been a problem to get instant PUG matches for me and my friends.
As for financially sustainable, it seems to be since FS is still there and still does regular updates to two of their three games. Since AFAIK none of us has any further insights on their finances, anything beyond that is mere speculation.
