Inconsistencies with Blocking Maulers and Crushers' Overhead Attacks: A Bug or Design Oversight?"

This topic has shifted to discussion already anyway and not by me. And it’s already been said it’s not a bug, so.

It’s been said by a few individuals, not by the devs themselves. So who knows, it could be. If game design of V2 is any indicator, then it is.

Dodging at the right moment is a combat mechanic that you can master.

Holding down your block button, while laughing at the enemies for not being able to do anything to you, is not really something that you can master, is it?

It does not break any rules.
You are making too many assumptions while knowing too little.
It only breaks the rules that you made up in your own ignorance.

There are some things (like the actual workings behind sniper damage) that are a bit more difficult to understand, but this is no such case.
You can block regular melee attacks.
You can not block overheads and fires.

It absolutely makes sense, too.
If someone strikes you with an unstoppable force from the side, you could still kinda block the attack. Your weapon might get knocked out of your hand and you might get thrown off your feet, but you could kinda block it.
Now try that, when the attack comes from above. Your body could only move downwards, but that’s where the floor is. So you get smushed.

Just parry it with a Devil’s Claw.

Blocking isn’t as foolproof as you make it sound. When you run out of stamina your guard breaks and that stunlocks you for a good 2 seconds.

While holding down a block may not be a skill, parrying at the right moment to deflect the blow at no cost of your stamina, (while running the risk of being downed) is a skill that can be mastered. Which is an aspect of V2’s melee fights.

What happens when an unstoppable force is met with an immovable object?
Blocking with the faith of the Emperor IS the immovable object. :sunglasses:

Yes.
With a specific trait (blessing equivalent) being required for that to be a thing in the first place.

Tell that to the explosive barrel, next time it yeets you across the room.

What’s your point? You’re opposed to that trait being in DT?

Barrels are full of the divine wrath of the Emperor. Your argument is invalid.

Funny post, 3000 hour veteran whining about overheads being undodgeable. If you had any self awareness you’d be embarrassed

I’ve queried this, and this is the information I’ve received:

Certain attacks cannot be blocked (unless with the Ogryn Slab Shield or the Devil’s Claw special parry):

  • Scab Mauler Overhead
  • Crusher Overhead
  • Plague Ogryn Foot Stomp
  • Plague Ogryn Slam
  • Beast of Nurgle Melee
  • Scab Captain 1h Great Slash
  • Scab Captain 2h Slam
  • Scab Captain 2h Overhead

The Mauler and Crusher Overhead in particular have also a spillover mechanic where they can deal damage to health even at 100% Toughness:

Melee Spillover : Melee attacks with this tag will deal their remaining damage to health if they pierce your toughness without having inflicted their full base damage. Additionally, they will always deal at least 25% of their damage to your health, regardless of current toughness percentage.

Since they deal a huge amount of damage, it’s not unlikely to be one-shotted at full Toughness/Health if there are no damage reduction buffs active.

So it is intentional for them to ignore the block? That’s unfortunate… I hope that changes in the future.

I appreciate you providing us with official information though.
My thanks.

I went into the Psykanium to do testing on this a bit ago out of curiosity. I can 100% of the time get Crushers and Mauler overheads to hit you through dodging easily.

The way it works now, unsure if intended, is that their overheads have 360 degree tracking and will hit you every time if you are spamming dodge prior to them beginning an overhead. If you hit the dodge key after they begin their animation, they won’t track and you will dodge easily. If you are currently dodging as they begin their overhead, they will have infinite tracking.

If you are circle dodging them, I was on Psyker with a duelling sword 4 and the Anticipation talent which gives +50% dodge time, regardless of me being literally behind the Crusher after 5 full dodges around him, I am hit as he 240 degree tracks me. That is completely absurd, lol.

This needs fixed immediately. Crusher and Mauler overheads should not have ANY tracking period, let alone infinite tracking combined with a sprinting mechanic as they are charging up said overhead.

Are you certain you’re not running out of effective dodges? To my understanding non-effective dodges don’t disjoint attacks, or atleast it worked like that in vermintide
