I like what you guys are trying to do here. I like the initiative for content no matter how engaging (or not) it is. This is good.
What I liked:
Power Outage, my favorite map modifier. The idea of having some unspeakable horror lurking in the dark - I was expecting perhaps a new demon of nurgle or chaos or something that I wasn’t aware of yet.
I loved hearing the boss talk before we made visual contact. “Well, well, well. What have we here?”
What I disliked:
No new mechanics. Nothing was changed about this boss. Or the map modifier.
You only fight said boss once.
Not available in Aurics(unverified, there were no power outage missions available in aurics at the time I played)
EDIT: Verified, not available in Aurics.
What was “meh” :
Rewards are once again, lackluster. A skin, a charm for our weapons, hell. Even a title or portrait border would be nice.
Nothing changed about the nature of the power outage. There was no new interaction with it.
What I would’ve liked to see:
If the power interruption would occurr when the boss appears with dozens of hordes/waves of specialists That would be terrifying and disorienting. It’s all fun and games until someone shuts the lights off in some of the brightest places lit by power lights in Darktide.
A reward OTHER than plasteel, dockets or diamantine. At least include it with, something that says “I participated in this event!” Because the sad part about this is, I’ll forget about this even 3-4 months from now and won’t have anything to show for it.
I really appreciate the initiative here. Thank you for providing us content. Are you planning on opening up dialogue regarding this event? Will there be lasting changes? Is there something about this event that we’re not aware of yet? Could call it spoilers if you can’t say.
Power interruptions in general would be a welcome event during normal play.
Having to fight through a small portion of the map until Hadron fixes the grid, or us having to flip some switches to repower the lights would be a great way to shake things up a bit.
these things are previews for later, better events usually and aren’t for rewards so much as to break up the monotony now and then. it’s gotten a lot of people to play lights out and realize it’s not that hard at least.
I offer constructive criticism. I talked about what I liked, what I didn’t like, what was okay, spoke about what they were trying to do, attempted to offer validation, then offered a suggestion that could improve this.
You won’t catch me leaving a post that says “This sucks; fatshark lazy.” or something to that effect. But, thank you for the recognition just the same.
This is really old, and we probably laugh at it now. But this was how you did a monster in the dark. Original Unreal, and at a stage where you likely had no flares (unlike this guy) and a crappy gun, up against a fast aggressive target you can only see by firing…
re op’s point “Rewards are once again, lackluster. A skin, a charm for our weapons, hell. Even a title or portrait border would be nice.” I took one look at this event and went “Ah. Excuse to let us stockpile materials for the Big Rework on weapons.”
I agree the rewards are lacklustre, but I’m pretty tired (in general) of doing things repeatedly for a reward. That sounds like a job!
The event should let me do things that are themselves fun and novel. If repetition of something incidental within that is a feature that is rewarded - e.g. killing x,000 bad guys - then that’s okay. But if you’re just being pushed in to an experience that soon stops being desirable then it’s grind™.
Playing in the dark is fun now and then. The boss fight is a nothing addition imo. Playing 15 blackout missions is just not what I’d normally do. Hence my apathy
