If the next 'big update' is about penances, charms and worthless cosmetics, I'm out

Well, not all of them. Vervunhive for example had at least one rather nice-sounding shopping mall that was open to working-class hivers.

The poles have been mentioned before in vox stuff, right? or did I read that in a Black Library book?

Umm, actually maybe I’m just thinking of Morrow saying “Would you rather be cold? Be careful what you wish for.”

Either way, one of the poles would be interesting, cold hazards and different ambience. Or deep wasteland could make for crazy maps to fight in, with limited visability and radiation hazards. Upper hive will surely happen at some point too.

The thing is we absolutely can have jungles, winter, spa resort for aristocracy, etc.

I think we just wanted the game to be fun and rewards us… Not spit in our face…

Want a crafting system, fine then do it right rather than forcing RNG BS just meet subscription quota’s in stupid attempt to force us to keep playing and spend the $$$ in the cash shop…

Like I have said before, you spend 1 million OD on the white out fit, and you don;t even get matching back pack and weapons.

Everything is this god forsaken game is cynical and nasty and just punishes the player for playing.

That’s the spirit.

Push all the players away and when you are left playing on your own, you will be wondering why everyone left.

Besides these people threaton to leave every update and every time they are back less then a week later. I cant take these seirously anymore at all. Not for the Darktide section of the forum anyway.

This… but me I will say that i don’t want to care about this part of the game.
They have lost me with private penances. At first I asked that they remove the restriction, but then I realized that it brings nothing to my pleasure. Then I have given up penances definitively. So they can put the best system in the universe, I simply don’t care about this.

And like the OP, I consider that they just waste time, that they don’t have, and resources for a features that is, AGAIN, made for hardcore gamers. They will never learn that when you increase the number of players, you increase also the number of potential customers that could eventually start to deal with microtransactions.
Okay, DT reinvented the micro-transactions and removed the word micro to make then true transaction like buying a DLC when in an other game it would be 5€/$ here you get a nice price at 24.99€ for one set - best way to not sell.
But, again, this update solves nothing for a casual gamer. I really would like to understand why they are so afraid to see players on their game
A gold mine turned into a muddy hole… disappointing, especially cause the combat in DT is a masterpiece.

one cannot simply be casually devoted

I think the other factor that doesn’t work is the lack of path variety as well as how many times a map will intersect with another map.

I do think it would also be possible to have a winter / Jungle area by having large meat freezers or an overgrown arboretum.

Looking back on games like Metro 2033 or Bioshock there is a real risk that many areas could be very similar but even working within the confines of “underwater city” or “underground metro tunnels” they still managed to make visually distinct areas.

hive cities don’t have arboritums, too ineffecient.

This update feels like a prepartion for something bigger imo, and it better because the game needs it desperately.

We could have algae vats for some greenery. The baddies have gone after the water already, why not the food? Protein manufactora and any other sort of food production could easily fit in.

That’s why player numbers have collapsed and nowhere the numbers they should be for a game like Darktide.

I wish they’d come back, because then the game would probably get way more income and get supported more. You and me both know that’s not reality though.

strong disagree, all it took for VT2 to be a complete experience was bugfixing all the broken stuff at launch (admittedly a LOT of broken stuff, but it got fixed after some months) + dust conversion. Darktide is way, way off the mark of being complete without major severe issues keeping it from being considered that. It still needs a complete crafting overhaul to make itemization not garbage and actual bossfights at the bare minimum to be considered complete. At the current pace of updates that’s 2026

Fatshark have only themselves to blame.

They said they wouldn’t do RNG BS, then done RNG BS.

I suppose that’s the price pay for Chinese $$$

That’s the thing Tencent contrary to population belief don’t meddle much with devs they own definitely not at the same level as say capcom or EA.

The only ‘Chinese $’ the game suffers from is fatshark going with a cheap Chinese studio to make the games ‘premium’ cosmetics and their over priced nature purely comes from not caring at all about public perception and the games player base being lower than they had hoped. Halo infinite a AAA game did the same thing with cosmetics pricing the moment they didn’t care anymore and the players were gone just jack up the prices and entirely focus on selling overpriced cosmetics.

the only thing i want for this game is more MAPS, MAPS, MAPS, MAPS, MAPS, MAPS…

I think it’s a good update… But the game has some glaring core issues and we only get about 1-2 major content releases per year. As much as I think penances and cosmetics needed an overhaul, Its pretty low on the priority list if the goal is to resuscitate the game IMHO
