I was playing Veteran on a hunting ground’s modifier game a little while back and I had a train of thought that spiraled into this while I was getting mauled by a poxhound:
Veteran’s ability, Voice of Command knocks back nearby enemies up to 9m away, right?
Zealot’s book stuns enemies for the duration of the book’s cycle, right?
Ogryn’s taunt momentarily stuns enemies (or interrupts their attacks), right?
Psyker’s Venting Shriek stuns/knocks back enemies based off of Perils of the Warp levels, right?
Arbitrator has that “Step back” ability (the discount Zealot rush), right?
Now, my question is why not allow for players to use any of these abilities to knock a dog off at the expense of, say, an additional 10 x difficulty corruption damage (so for instance, 10 on sedition, 20 malice, 30 heresy, etc.) to health and a lengthier ability cooldown? That way, players won’t have to pray that their teammate has a functioning pink hunk of meat in their braincase and that they Old Yeller the poxhound that’s currently letting you get acquainted with its’ rotten jaws.
I know what the first couple of comments are going to be like. “skill issue” “omg game balance” “unfair! bad players shouldn’t be rewarded”… this would be a costly and optional choice. You’ll get some serious corruption damage on top of the pre-existing corruption damage that you get from the poxhound.
This is for the times where Darktide’s audio bugs out and a poxhound will attack you with no sound cue.
This is for the times where the height difference between poxhound and reject will make it so they don’t enter the pre-lunge animation and just run straight into a pounce.
This is for the times where the three rejects that started the mission with you are tied and gagged, having died. Or are also being assailed by pox hounds and cannot assist you.
This is for the times where the horde of enemies that you cannot get through are blocking every way out and a poxhound phases through enemy bodies and you become dog food.
Thank you for your time. If you have any personal ideas on what would balance it further, feel free to.
